Chapter 2:
Realms and Shadows
Confused, I looked in the direction where the voice came from and saw another wolf standing before me, he was covered from head to toe in grey fur, with bright yellow eyes, and strange, yellow lightning-shaped markings that ran across his entire body. I noticed that strapped to his side was a scabbard, with the handle of a sword sticking out of it.
I stayed silent for a moment, unsure of what I should say to him. "Who are you?" I finally asked him. He gave a slight smile and said "Oh right, where are my manners? My name is Zahyr Windrunner." He looked at me and said, "Now that I've given you my name, what's yours?" I opened my mouth to reply, but then I realized that I didn't know my name. "I... I don't know my name." I told him. Confused, he replied, "Well then, do you know how you got here?" I shook my head, "No, I don't. I don't know what happened where I am, or even who I am. My earliest memory is waking up in that forest behind me."
He seemed shocked by this, "Wait, hold on, you mean to tell me you woke up in the Duskmire?" he said, putting an odd emphasis on the word Duskmire. Unsure of how to reply, I simply said, "If you mean that forest over there," gesturing back to the forest, "then yes, that's where I woke up."
His eyes widened at this, and he took a couple of steps back in shock. He started muttering to himself, "By the Guardians, could he be the one?" He glanced at me, his eyes darting up and down, before muttering something else that I couldn't hear. After a moment of silence, he regained his composure and tilted his head to properly look at my leg.
"That injury looks pretty bad. Tell you what, let me take you back to camp with me." He told me, "We have medics there that can help to take care of that, and while you're there, I can tell the general of your ... predicament."
I took a moment to think it over, "I'm not going to last long by myself," I thought to myself, "Not with my leg being in this shape."
"Alright, fine, I have one request." I asked him.
"Tell me your request, and I'll see whether or not it's something I can do."
"That you and the general answer any questions that I have."
He thought about it for a moment, "All right sure, I'll do the best I can to answer any questions that you have, but just be warned," He said to me, his tone serious, "there will be questions that I can't tell you the answer to just yet, you're just going to have to wait until the time comes that I can tell you." "Seems fair enough," I thought to myself, "I just wonder why there are questions that he can't tell me the answer to yet?"
"Well, no time to waste, your leg isn't going to get better by itself," Zahyr said, interrupting my thoughts. He extended a hand for me to take, which I did. He hoisted me off the ground onto my feet, but I winced in pain because I wasn't able to put any pressure on my leg, leaving me only one leg to move around on. "Here, put your arm around my shoulder," Zahyr said. I threw my arm around his shoulder, and he put his around mine so that I could have some support. "All right," Zahyr said, "Let's go." as we started guiding me in the direction of his camp.
