Chapter 8:

Log entry #1

The Close Pass

This will be my collection of logs documenting my life in this place. I need a record of what I observe, what I suspect, and what I still need to figure out.

Current situation: I am in an unfamiliar world, taken in by a secluded village, and given a job managing supplies and trade.

Possible explanations for my situation, ranked by likelihood:

Elaborate prank or simulation – Unlikely. No clear motive or means. No signs of external observation or artificial inconsistencies. Too complex and resource-intensive to pull off.

Brain trauma / coma – Possible, but unlikely. Sensory input is too consistent. Cold, hunger, and pain register normally. If this were a dream or hallucination, I would expect distortions, but everything remains stable.

Time travel – Disproven. The stars don’t match Earth’s constellations, even adjusting for hemispheric differences. The moon’s surface features don’t align with what I remember.

Parallel universe / alternate reality – Most probable. Explains the differences in celestial bodies, unknown geography, and linguistic discrepancies. Ties in with the supposed spaghettification incident. Requires further evidence.

Conclusion: Proceed as if this is a real, separate reality. Focus on adaptation and information gathering.

Observations:

Social structure – The village operates on a tight-knit communal system. Leadership is respected but not absolute. Need to understand political dynamics beyond the village.

Health concerns – Potential unknown diseases. No immediate symptoms, long-term effects are unknown.

Technology level – Appears pre-industrial but not entirely medieval. Metalwork is advanced enough for nails, hinges, and tools. Architecture is practical and well-adapted to the environment.

Agriculture – Limited crop variety. Hunting and foraging supplement diet. Potential for introducing improvements, but need to gauge how open they are to change.

Need to gather more information.
