Chapter Fifteen

الفصل الخامس عشر

خرج آدم من الحمام، وعقله يدور. كان عليه أن يفكر بسرعة. كان عليه أن يُحذر لوسي، ولكن كيف؟ كان رايان يراقبها، وإذا حاول آدم التحدث معها على انفراد، فسيثير الشكوك.

قرر آدم أن يكون ذكيًا. عاد إلى الكافتيريا وحاول التصرف بشكل طبيعي قدر الإمكان. انضم إلى والدي لوسي، وتحدث معهما عن الطقس والكعك. كان قلبه يخفق بشدة، وشعر بتوتر شديد، لكنه بذل قصارى جهده لإخفائه.

في هذه الأثناء، عاد رايان إلى غرفة لوسي. وجدها مستلقية على السرير، تقرأ مجلة قديمة.

"هل وجدت أي شيء؟" سأل رايان محاولاً أن يبدو غير مبال.

أجابت لوسي: "لا شيء ذي قيمة، مجرد كومة من الخردة القديمة".

جلس رايان على حافة السرير، ينظر إلى لوسي. شعر بصراع داخلي. جزء منه يريد حمايتها، وجزء آخر يخاف منها. كان يعلم أن عليه أن يفعل ما يراه صوابًا، حتى لو أدى ذلك إلى إيذاء شخص عزيز عليه.

"لوسي، أريد أن أخبرك بشيء ما"، قال رايان.

"ما الأمر؟" سألت لوسي وهي تنظر إليه بفضول.

قال رايان: "هناك أشياء لا تعرفها عن نفسك. أشياء مهمة".

"ماذا تقصد؟" سألت لوسي، وبدأت تشعر بالقلق.

"أنت لست... طبيعيًا،" قال رايان. "هناك شيء مختلف فيك."

قبل أن يتمكن رايان من قول المزيد، دخل آدم إلى الغرفة.

"مرحبًا،" قال آدم محاولًا أن يبدو مبتهجًا. "ماذا تفعل؟"

"كنا نتحدث"، أجاب رايان بصوت حاد.

"ماذا عن؟" سأل آدم، وألقى على رايان نظرة تحذيرية.

"لا شيء مهم،" قال رايان. "مجرد محادثة عابرة."

"حسنًا،" قال آدم. "أردت فقط أن أقول إن والدي لوسي سيعودان. يجب أن نكون مستعدين."

"حسنًا،" قال رايان. "شكرًا لإخبارنا."

غادر آدم الغرفة، لكنه توقف للحظة ونظر إلى لوسي. أومأ برأسه قليلًا، محاولًا تحذيرها.

نظرت لوسي إلى آدم، مرتبكة وقلقة. ماذا كان يحاول قوله؟ ماذا كان رايان يخفي عنها؟

بعد لحظات، عاد والدا لوسي إلى الغرفة. كانا يتحدثان ويضحكان، ولم يبدو عليهما أي شك.

"أهلًا حبيبتي،" قالت سارة وهي تعانق لوسي. "هل أنتِ بخير؟"

"نعم يا أمي،" أجابت لوسي. "أنا بخير."

قال موروي: "هذا جيد. يسعدنا أن حالتك تتحسن."

نظر رايان إلى لوسي، وشعر بالذنب. كان يعلم أنه يكذب عليها، وأنه يخفي عنها أمرًا مهمًا. لكنه كان يؤمن بأنه يفعل ما فيه مصلحة الجميع.

في تلك اللحظة، قرر آدم أنه لا يستطيع الانتظار أكثر. كان عليه أن يُحذر لوسي، حتى لو كلّفه ذلك المخاطرة بكل شيء.

انتظر آدم حتى انشغل والدا لوسي بالتحدث مع الممرضة، ثم انحنى نحو لوسي وهمس في أذنها، "ريان يكذب عليك. كوني حذرة."

نظرت لوسي إلى آدم بصدمة. ماذا يعني؟ ما الذي يجب أن تحذر منه؟

Chapter Sixteen: Journey

A few days later, Lucy was released from the hospital. She was still feeling weak, but she was happy to be home. She climbed into Moroi's car and sat in the back seat between Ryan and Adam.

The atmosphere in the car was tense. Lucy was feeling anxious and confused by Adam's warning words. Ryan was feeling guilty and hesitant. Adam was feeling scared and worried for Lucy.

Moroi and Sara were chatting happily in the front seat, unaware of the tension brewing in the back. Adam was staring out the window, his mind preoccupied. He knew Ryan was hiding something, and he was determined to find out what it was.

"Are you okay, Lucy?" Ryan asked, breaking the silence.

"Yes," Lucy replied. "I'm fine. Why do you ask?"

"Nothing," Ryan said. "I was just worried about you."

"I'm fine, Ryan," Lucy said. "Stop worrying."

"Okay," Ryan said. "If you're sure."

There was silence again. Lucy looked at Ryan, trying to read his thoughts. He looked tense and uncomfortable. What was he hiding?

Suddenly, Lucy saw something strange in the rearview mirror. A car was following them. She wasn't sure, but she thought she saw the same young man who had attacked her at the hospital.

"Moroi, do you see that car following us?" Lucy asked.

Moroi looked in the rearview mirror. "I don't see anything, dear. Maybe you're imagining it."

"No, I'm sure," Lucy said. "There's a car following us."

Ryan looked in the rearview mirror too. "I think I see it," Ryan said. "It looks familiar."

"Who is it?" Lucy asked.

"I don't know," Ryan said. "But I don't like the look of it."

"So what do we do?" Lucy asked.

"I'll hurry," Moroi said. "We'll lose them."

Moroi pressed the gas pedal, and the car sped off. But the car that had been following them was also following them.

"They're after us!" Lucy shouted.

"Don't worry," Moroi said. "We'll get rid of them."

Moroi began maneuvering the car, speeding through the streets. But the car that had been following them was following them everywhere.

"This isn't good," Ryan said. "They know where we are."

"What do we do?" Lucy asked, feeling scared.

"We have to run," Ryan said. "We have to get away from them."

"Where do we go?" Lucy asked.

Ryan looked at Adam. "Adam, do you know any place we can hide?"

Adam looked at Ryan, feeling conflicted. Should he help Ryan? Should he risk his life for someone he believed wanted to hurt Lucy?

But in the end, Adam decided he couldn't leave Lucy to face this alone. He had to do what he believed was right.

"I know a place," Adam said. "There's an old cabin in the woods. It's abandoned, but we can hide there."

"Okay," Ryan said. "Lead us there."
