Chapter 1:

"Last Day of School"

The Fifth Council

The buzz of an evening call echoed through the room of a boy, dimly lit by the glow of his phone. Curtains over the windows, and a cozy bed sat behind him. On-screen, four friends were talking, their voices overlapping with laughter and half-serious plans.

Audaxor: “So I’mma bring the chips. What are y’all bringing?”

Bezkon: “I’m bringing soda. Two big bottles.”

Helwin: “I’ve got some cash left from last week. I’ll grab extra stuff if needed.”

Shin’ō: “I’ve got data, so I’ll just bring my phone.”

Jovino: “I’ll bring my motorcycle. I’m not walking to school on the last day.”

Laughter rippled through the call.

Shin’ō: “Guys, it’s getting late. You two should go grab the stuff before the stores close.”

Bezkon: “Yeah, yeah. Relax, dude.”

Shin’ō: “Alright, ending the call.”

With a soft click, the screen faded to black.

The next morning burst to life with the echo of laughter and cheers in the school corridors. Final exams were over. Students ran around with energy that only a last day could provide.

Shin’ō sat alone in the classroom, sunlight pouring in through the open windows. He looked at his phone.

“Seems like I’m the first one again…” he thought.

Thirty minutes later, Bezkon and Helwin slumped into the seats beside him, followed by Jovino and Audaxor, who took their usual places behind them.

Helwin: “You got the stuff?”

Bezkon: “Damn right I do.”

Shin’ō glanced over. “Hel, what time is it?”

Helwin checked. “7:25. You could’ve just checked your phone, you know?”

During class, Shin’ō leaned back and whispered, “Hey bro, pass me some chips. I’m gonna record this.”

Audaxor smirked and passed him the bag. “Send me that video later.”

They both chuckled, quiet enough not to get caught.

By the end of the school day, the group was hanging out near the school gates. The air was full of the strange mix of excitement and melancholy that only the end of school could bring.

Jovino grinned. “This day is gonna be unforgettable.”

Bezkon glanced at Shin’ō, his smile dimming slightly. “Hope so… even if he forgets.”

That night, the streets were quiet. A single figure—Shin’ō—stood alone under the dim orange glow of a flickering street lamp, staring at his phone.

“So… where is this place?” he mumbled.

Just then, a new message flashed on his screen: Look right.

Confused, Shin’ō turned—

CRASH!

Blinding white.

Silence.

Shin’ō lay motionless in the street. The truck that hit him had already skidded past and escaped far away. The driver drove the truck far in the nearby forest.

Jovino, his face pale, hands trembling.

Jovino: “I’m… I’m sorry.”

Somewhere nearby, Helwin sat in a car, furiously typing on a laptop. CCTV feeds flickered and vanished.

Helwin: “Damn, that was hard. Alright, deleting all of it now…”

In the alley, Audaxor lifted Shin’ō’s lifeless body, gently and carefully.

Audaxor: “Huh… bro’s surprisingly light.”

Bezkon stood at the corner of the street, waving a flashlight and shouting, “Hey, hey! This road’s closed for maintenance! Dangerous stuff ahead!”

A curious pedestrian turned away.

Far above the city, the view zoomed out.

The boys’ phones buzzed simultaneously.

A distorted voice crackled from each device.

“Mission Complete.”
