Chapter 7:
Eclipsed Hearts
The memories floated before me, filling my eyes with tears. It would be better if I was gone… No one…
No one wants you, Ame, the Nightmare finished what I didn’t dare to.
“Ame…. Ame…”
A voice called in the void, but it was meaningless. Why should I care…? It was easier to just let go and disappear.
Disappear Ame... You don’t deserve to live, the Nightmare whispered in my mind, and I smiled.
Come, Ame, join us. Let someone else suffer, and you can be happy.
The void split in front of me, creating a bridge into nothingness. I nodded to myself and took a step when a sharp pain pierced through me. I screamed and fell onto sharp rocks that covered the ground. The pain grew, and I cried out, digging my fingers into ashen soil that cut my skin.
“Ame…!”
The voice rang in the air once more, and the pain subsided. I dared to open my eyes.
“H.. Hana…”, I whispered. “You …”
“I will do it again if I need to.”
She stood some distance away, her voice stern, but her eyes shone with love and care. The cold wind shocked me and awoke my senses. I shivered and looked at the desolate landscape around us. The void was gone, and so was the Nightmare.
I looked at Hana, surprised, and a soft smile appeared on my face.
“You did it, Hana.”
She ran over to me and wrapped her arms around me.
“Hana…?”
A sudden fear surged through me. Was this goodbye? My body froze. Of course it was; she didn’t need me any longer… No.. I pushed the thoughts away. She came back for me. I put my arms around her.
“Thank you…”, I whispered softly.
She took my hand in hers and smiled.
“Let's go back…”
