Chapter 1:
Cost of the Calm
Then comes The Orian, called The Origin. Eons ago, there was only one realm. But because of an unknown entity, the world was split into three.
Next is Athear The World of Clouds home to higher lifeforms of immense power and wisdom. And finally, NeLa, known simply as The Prison. A realm that traps those who once tried to destroy peace. To protect the balance between these realms, the Realm Walkers were formed guardians who walk between worlds, enforcing peace and hunting threats.
It had been 192 years since the Great War.On that day, we were told to stay indoors. A massive rift had opened in NeLa, and Realm Walkers were dispatched to handle it.
But curiosity got the better of me.A Realm Walker, locked in fierce combat with a monstrous creature. She was losing. The beast was overwhelming her, its claws flashing through the air like blades of death. But then, she spoke two words:
“Absolute Dominance.”With a single swing of her glowing blade, she ended its life.
She caught me watching. But said nothing. Then, she vanished into thin air. Here, they trained those willing to fight, to protect others… and to sacrifice everything for peace.
I took my first step inside and immediately heard a cold voice behind me.“Why is a loser like you even here?” a girl sneered.
Before I could respond, someone else stepped in.“Eona, enough,” said an older student firmly. “Show some respect.”
They walked off.So much for a peaceful first day.I talked to a few classmates some even girls, which surprised me but I wasn’t here for small talk. My goal was clear: become a Realm Walker.
The next day, we began training to control our Aura the energy within us, used to summon weapons. Some summoned staves, others, longswords or guns.
When it was my turn, I focused hard. My aura flared and two daggers appeared in my hands. They were… different. The other pulsed with a fierce red streak.Whispers rippled through the class. Even the instructor’s eyes widened.
“Boy,” he said, stepping closer. “Your aura is strong. If you learn to control it, you’ll become a Realm Walker very soon.”His words lit a fire in my chest. On the third day, we began weapon training.
It was brutal. Everyone struggled muscles aching, lungs burning.
Except me.Not because I was strong… but because I wasn’t training at all.knew how to teach me.
Confusion turned to fear. Was my weapon cursed? Would I be expelled?“Your weapon is rare. But not unheard of.”I looked up, surprised. “Then what now?”He smiled faintly. “From now on, Eona will train you.”
The name hit me hard. Eona. The girl from my first day.Why couldn’t anything in my journey be normal?
He added, “Go to your room. She’ll come to you tonight. Be prepared.”His face turned serious. “She’s… unique. The only person we know who can’t summon a weapon. But her aura is massive. She mastered Magic instead. Her ability lets her learn any weapon skill
just by touching it.”
I wanted to ask more, but his tone told me to stay quiet. So I did. That night, I waited in my room. The clock struck 9:00 PM.Knock… knock…I opened the door.“What are you staring at?” she snapped, just like before cold and annoyed.
Behind her stood another girl. Older. Kinder.“Hello! Sorry we’re late,” she said with a smile. “Eona was… taking a nap.”
I didn’t care about excuses. I wasn’t here to make friends.“I’m Ona,” she added. “Her summon.”I blinked. “Summon?”Eona cut in. “I summoned her to take care of me. Simple.”
She walked in and sat on my chair like she owned the place.“Let me see your weapon,” she said. It wasn’t a request. It was a command.
I summoned my daggers. She touched them and her expression shifted.Something was wrong.“What’s wrong?” I asked.
She hesitated. “…Your aura is too massive. My magic couldn’t learn anything from your weapon.”
It didn’t sound like a lie. But it still hit hard.If even Eona couldn’t learn from my weapon… was I hopeless?“So, you’re useless after all,” I muttered, bitterness slipping into my voice.
She raised her hand, whispering a chant. “Allow me to learn.”
A soft glow surrounded her. She touched the daggers again. This time… a small smile appeared.“Your training starts tomorrow. Rest. You’ll need it.”And just like that, they left. For the first time in days, I felt real hope.Maybe… my dream of becoming a Realm Walker wasn’t over.
Maybe… it was just beginning.Meanwhile, outside the room…“Eona, your magic didn’t work, did it?” Ona asked softly.
Eona didn’t answer at first. Then she spoke, voice low.“…No. His aura is greater than mine. I couldn’t learn a thing. I can’t train him.”
“Then why did you lie?”Ona smiled. “How sweet of you.”Eona didn’t respond.
She just walked away, her eyes lingering on the closed door behind her.Eona’s words kept echoing in my head.
“Your training starts tomorrow.”I grabbed the old academy book resting on the nightstand.
The cover was faded, its pages worn from years of being passed down.
“The History of Realm Walkers.”
I flipped through pages..."Kai. That was his name. The man who believed peace wasn’t something to protect it was something to create by force.
With power unlike anything seen before, he bent death itself to his will. And with it, he marched across the realms, convinced he was the cure to chaos."
"He didn’t raise armies. He erased them. Whole villages vanished in seconds. Forests, cities… even the skies above Aaora darkened under his shadow.""He called it mercy."
"‘True peace comes when nothing is left to disturb it,’ he once said.""Some say he still lives, gathering strength in silence. Others believe the seal broke years ago."
"Whatever the truth… if Kai ever walks again, the realms will fall silent forever."But still… I couldn’t help but wonder. What if silence really is what he wanted? What if he didn’t lose… just waited? My eyes grew heavy. The last thought I had before sleep Was What kind of peace needs everyone dead to exist?
