Chapter 0:
What awaits us and cannot be avoided...
Earth, planet we all live on, we all know and we all take for granted. Living our daily lives without a single care in the world about how do we affect our future by simple ride by a car, simple trash thrown away... I was like that too...
There were warning signals all around us, greenhouse gasses, dissapearing ozone layer, species going extinct, level of our seas rising.. Despite all of that, there were still people who didn't believe that climate change is real, that it's all just a hoax and didn't take it seriously.. Looking back, I'm not surprised. Economy was falling appart, everyone turned against each other, brothers, friends, whole countries... We, as human race, were doomed to destroy ourselves sooner or later...
Year 2050: Dooms day
„Attention everyone! We ask everyone to evacuate as soon as possible! This is not a drill! I repeat, this is NOT a drill!!“
These words were being announced all over the world, in every single corner. Africa, America, Europe, Asia, Australia.. Whole world was consumed by panic. My parents used to say that once human race will achieve great things, that we will develop stuff greater than anything we have ever seen. I can't believe how naive we all were...
That day started as any other. I woke up at around 7 am and my mom drove me off to school. But there was already a certain tension in the air, as if the Earth itself sent us one last warning that something bad is going to happen, warning we all successfully ignored. I was one of those spoiled, entitled brats who thought they can do anything only because their parents were wealthier than others. I was 12 at that time, but my ego was already higher than Mt. Everest. I was arrogant, hateful, ungrateful... I used to resemble everything I grew to hate..
After school, I went home and after few hours, hell broke out. It started of innocently like a small storm, but the storm turned into a hurricane and hurricane soon turned into something darker. I have never seen crazier weather than that evening. Lightning has striked local power plant, causing a massive explosion.
On the other end of the world a massive tsunami reached America, destroying everything in its way, followed by a huge tornado. In Asia there was a huge earthquake and cards were mixed with a nuclear war that went on, destroying everything.
As a child, I didn't pay attention to what is going on around the world so I don't remember any details or cause of all this natural disasters... But there is one thing that got stuck in my mind forever..
After the explosion, whole city caught on fire. I remember I was hiding in bathroom when our whole house shook and I didn't had any other choice but to run away. So I ran through destroyed streets, screams and shouts of help I heard haunt me to this day. Whole world seemed to slow down, nothing made sense and my mind raced with only one thought, that I need to get away.
I may not remember much, everything is a blur, but a live image of a bridge falling down just when I ran under it will be forever stuck with me. That moment, everything faded into background...
