Chapter 2:

Chapter 2.- Between spells and voids

White, black... Grey paths

The next day came I was the first to get up so I started preparing breakfast, the silence relaxed me, although it didn't last for long - I see you're here - I heard Salkao's voice behind me so I stopped cutting tomatoes to turn to look at him - Oh, good morning Salkao - I said with a kind smile seeing him leaning against the door frame - Good morning ... umm ... sorry for my attitude yesterday, I was upset because I heard that someone from the entrance exam reached rank C, I have a lot of competitive spirit so that ended up happening - he said justifying his attitude from yesterday - Oh ... it's okay, don't worry - I said as discreetly as possible, "Okay ... don't let him find out my rank for anything in the world", I thought to myself and turned back to the tomatoes to continue with my work - Hey, my mom told me that you also entered, how did it go? – I asked in a cheerful tone. “Well… as soon as I passed, I got rank 1,” I said in a nervous voice. “Hey, it’s not a bad start, did you know that only 1 in 8 of us managed to get in? You’re already part of a select group, for example, I got rank 2,” he said with a clearly arrogant tone. “Yeah, he’s a conceited guy,” I thought, a bit annoyed. “Well, congratulations, and no, I had no idea how low the entry rate was,” I said to end the conversation. “Well, I’ll wait for the food, thanks for your service,” he said as he left the room. I sighed when he left to calm my nerves, “I’ll have to be careful where I leave that card, she can’t see it for anything in the world,” I thought, a bit worried. “After finishing cooking and the lady arriving and we had breakfast, both Salkao and I left the house to go to school…

When we arrived we were shown to our classrooms and we separated as we were in different classes, somewhat anxious I entered the class and saw everyone sitting on different sides, but luckily for me there were Senko and Violet so I sat behind them - Good morning girls - I greeted with my usual friendly tone - Oh, Lawlieth, very good morning - Senko greeted me in her usual cheerful tone - Good morning - Violet greeted with a somewhat empty tone to which both Senko and I remained silent for a second - Forgive her, she's a bit shy and it takes her time to get comfortable," Senko explained with a nervous smile. "No problem, I've met people like that before," I answered so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable. "I'm really excited about this," I said to lighten the awkward atmosphere. "Me too, while we're at it, what average did you get? We both came in at rank 1," Senko explained, somewhat proud. "Well... how do I explain this, Violet, would you do me a favor and cover Senko's mouth?" I said, somewhat nervous - ehh… okay – she answered me somewhat surprised while I did it and Senko was confused and I took out my card – okay, one, two… three – she shows them the card and the both of them opened their eyes very surprised and clearly Senko wanted to scream and Violet was speechless - I have no idea how I ended up like this - I said with a nervous laugh; it took a few seconds to get over the shock and Violet started to think of something taking her hand away from Senko's mouth and she acted immediately snatching the card from me - This is impossible, I've never heard of something like this - said Senko very bewildered ... but Violet had already finished thinking shaking her head - Forget it, my theory doesn't make sense ... but Senko is right, your magical power is incredible - Violet finished saying seriously - Is it something so serious? I thought somewhat worried - In any case ... you could keep it a secret - I said looking everywhere to make sure no one heard us and fortunately no one paid attention to us - Calm down, you can trust us - Senko said in a softer and kinder tone than usual, which made me smile – Thanks – I finished answering – Hey, now to change the subject, shouldn't there be an inauguration or something like that for the newcomers? – I asked somewhat confused while remembering inaugurations from my previous life that were quickly erased with the usual headache – Oh no, that's not done these days – Senko replied somewhat seriously - Did something happen? – I asked confused by her tone and both turned to look at each other for a few seconds and then turned back to me. “You really are lost,” Violet said with a sigh. “Learning is rushed due to the number of demons that are increasing in the surroundings,” Senko added, “I guess it's something I should have expected after all this world looks more cliché every day.” “I see… yes, I am very lost, I was not aware of that, thank you for telling me.” And as I finished my comment, a teacher came in. “Very well young people… you know the current situation,” the teacher began to speak. “Now I do know the situation.” I joked to myself. “Therefore, we will start immediately, by the end of this year you must be at least with a good level of control for a novice and be at least at rank 3 of the category.” I explained to start classes. “By the way, let me forget for a second, I am Professor Malina.” I guess it slipped your mind because of your clear concern, but… so many names, I'm not good with them, I thought somewhat tiredly…

The first two classes ended quickly, even though it was mostly theory, magic is very intuitive so it wasn't a very heavy learning process, but thinking about understanding the topics better, Senko suggested going to the library to which Violet and I do not refuse.

Already in the library I started reading something about “Basic Magical Control”, as I said magic is very intuitive and generally it is enough to know the concepts of the spells to be able to perform it or at least that is what Violet said – So, according to what you said – I said while reading a fire spell with my eyes – this would have to go well – I said while lifting my index finger away from my face – wait, you shouldn't try them without practicing first- I didn't let Violet finish since a flame rose a few meters above me, although luckily nothing burned and at that the three of us remained silent, and after a few seconds I laughed – that was great – my laughter was followed by Senko's – that was fun! – Violet looked at us with some annoyance or at least that's what I could notice – silence! – we heard in the distance when the librarian – we feel it – Senko and I said at the same time - You two really are a problem – Violet said in a tired tone to which I laughed – I know, I know… by the way, you're right, I should practice and read about control – I said somewhat resignedly, if there's something I don't like it's reading a lot... "but I can manage it... I hope" I thought as I picked up the book again and began to continue reading it...

After the break we returned to the classroom and things started to get back on track. They were explaining something that I had read and understood in the library, so I took the opportunity to think about different things: Why are my memories repressed? I don't really understand it. There are few things that would be useful to me from my previous life in this world... "Isn't that right, world?" I mentioned the world to blame someone...

What I didn't expect was the sudden change of atmosphere that happened in an instant... I had appeared in a white space and bewildered and somewhat fearful I began to look from one side to the other everything that fit in my field of vision, I stopped when I felt a presence behind me which made me turn around and bump into a black sphere - What is that thing? - I asked into the air without waiting for an answer - I'm not a thing - I heard coming from that thing - What?! - I asked even more bewildered... After my scream there was a silence that lasted a few seconds and the sphere copied my shape and stands in front of me - Hello Lawlieth - my copy told me - Who are you? - I asked somewhat scared - I am what you call "world" - he said with a stoic look - World? - I asked with some uncertainty because of the abstract nature of the term – Yes… you’ve already spent two days in this reality, but… you’re very strange – he said without changing his expression – What do you mean? – I asked, surprised by the comment – There have been reincarnated people in my world for millennia, but they have never remained as calm as you. Why is that? – asked what I suppose is something similar to God – I have no idea really… I just don’t feel pain or sorrow for my previous life – I told him simply, just as curious as he was and he thought for a second, until he finally answered – The reincarnated lose something… a fragment of their being that remains in that world due to the soul… it seems that the part of your soul that was lost in the trip were the feelings of that world… that also answers your question of why you lose your memories – explained the being without losing his impassive tone and expression – wait, do you mean that the loss of my memories is not your fault? – I asked the being somewhat bewildered, but also internally worried, I mean, I didn't exactly feel bad about it, but with a certain emotional emptiness – no, I don't have power over the reincarnated, I know your destiny, but I can't control your actions, in fact I don't even know if that destiny I know is yours or not, you are completely unpredictable – he answered me simply – I see… well, then thanks for explaining this to me – I told him sincerely – it's nothing, it's time for you to come back, don't worry, time hasn't passed outside of here – he said apparently not to worry me – okay, see you later or see you never, well goodbye – I said to end the conversation and for the being to disappear and me to return to the classroom…

I was in the exact same position as before, staring straight ahead. “So… it’s my fault for somehow losing my memories. I wonder if there’s a way to get them back?” I thought, quite excited by the thought. The class period finally ended after a few hours, and I said goodbye to the girls. Salkao and I returned to our home.

We entered and the lady was not present – if you want you can go rest, I will call you for lunch – I told Salkao – of course – Salkao answered me simply and went to his room and I went to the kitchen, this day was very interesting, “that god told me good information, I can stop racking my brains thinking about it, for a third day… everything is going well” I thought very happily and continued with the preparation of the meal… the day continued normally and at the end of it I was able to rest a little more relaxed than yesterday…

The next day arrived and again I woke up first and made breakfast. I was about to leave with Salkao, but the lady stopped me and told Salkao to go ahead, leaving me alone with her - Is something wrong, ma'am? - I asked, surprised - I want to give you this - she said showing me a card identical to mine, but with a change, instead of saying “C rank 3” it said “D rank 1” - How did she do this? - I asked as I took the card. - I know it will be a problem if someone knows how strong you are, so I created a fake one so nothing happens to you,” he said with a somewhat soft and worried tone. “Thank you, but… why do you care so much about me? -  I said as I took out and put away my “fake card.” - It’s because… it’s not for nothing, I feel like if they discover you it could stain my reputation so keep it - she said looking away. - And give me your real card, don’t make any mistakes-  she said raising his hand to which I agreed without problems and gave it to him. - The card will increase its percentage from time to time so that it doesn’t look so fake - she said to finish the conversation conversation – thanks then… thank you very much… well, I have to go – I said to start walking – yes, have a good time – he said saying goodbye and I left heading to school…
