The skyway hummed with life. Flying cars zipped past glowing street signs, neon-lit billboards casting vibrant reflections against the towering skyscrapers.Planet Neon had long blurred the line between human and machine—cyborgs and humans walked side by side, their metallic limbs gleaming under artificial sunlight.
Seated in his sleek black hovercar, Michael piloted through the skyway’s glowing lanes, his fingers resting idly against the dashboard. His younger brother, Steeve, shifted excitedly in the seat beside him.
"Mic, can we go to the library?" Steeve asked abruptly, his gaze flicking toward the skyline.
Michael smirked, catching the urgency in his brother’s tone.
"The library?" He stole a sideways glance at him. "You sure you’re not more interested in someone there rather than the books?"
Steeve stiffened, his expression a flicker of momentary panic.
"W-What? No way. It’s about the books!"
Michael chuckled. "Right… Or maybe it's Stella."
The way Steeve’s expression froze was all the confirmation Michael needed. He chuckled, leaning into the turn as they ascended toward the glowing skyway curve.
"How did you know?" Steeve muttered, crossing his arms. "I never told anyone."
Michael’s smirk softened into something more knowing.
"You’re my little brother. Plus... you weren’t exactly subtle the night you got drunk."
Steeve groaned, burying his face in his hands.
"Damn... If word gets out, I’m doomed."
Michael laughed. "Relax. I haven’t told a soul. Just go for it, alright?"
Steeve sighed, nodding slowly.
Ahead, a huge holo-screen flickered to life on one of the floating skyscrapers. The flashing news headline sent chills down Michael’s spine:
“SERIAL KILLING SPREE SPANNING 30 YEARS—NO SUSPECTS.”
"Same old story," Steeve muttered. "No answers. Just fear."
Before Michael could respond, the image abruptly switched to a live COMET BROADCAST.
"A comet visible only once every two million years... passing over Neon tonight."
Michael’s eyes flickered with intrigue.
"I need to head out early tonight. I want to see this."
Steeve straightened. *"I’ll come with you."
Michael grinned. "Alright. But first—tell her. Okay?"
Steeve flushed a deep red, gripping his seatbelt.
"Fine... Today. I'll do it."The Neon Library was a marvel of technological elegance—holographic books floated in midair, their glowing titles shifting with the touch of an AI-assisted librarian. Tall glass panels framed the building, reflecting the city’s artificial skyline like an eternal illusion.
Inside, Stella stood at the reception desk, radiant as ever. Her golden hair cascaded softly over her shoulder, catching the dim glow of the overhead lights.
"Hello, sir. Hello, Steeve," she greeted warmly.
Steeve hesitated, then cleared his throat. "Hi."
Michael eyed him with amusement before turning to Stella.
"I need When the Time Comes by Dr. Jester,"he said.
The librarian handed him the book—a sleek, ancient-looking tome bound in dark material. Michael’s fingers traced the title thoughtfully as he watched Steeve fumble through his conversation.
"No excuses this time," he whispered in Steeve’s ear. "Just tell her."
Steeve stiffened but nodded.
Night fell upon Planet Neon, the skyline pulsing with neon lights. The Observatory Platform buzzed with excitement as a crowd gathered, eyes locked skyward, waiting for the rare sight.
Michael, Steeve, and Stella stood near the edge.
"Come with us," Michael offered to Stella, his voice calm. "This is something worth seeing."
The comet raced across the sky, its luminous tail casting eerie reflections against the towering skyscrapers.
Steeve turned to Stella, his pulse hammering. He took a breath—this was the moment.
"Stella... I’ve been meaning to say this for a while. I really like you."
Stella blinked, her lips parting slightly—but before she could speak, A DEAFENING Roar ripped through the atmosphere.
The crowd screamed. The sky ignited with blinding light.
A comet fragment hurtled straight down toward Neon.
BOOM.
Everything turned white.
Steeve gasped awake.
His body felt light—too light. His breathing deepened, his chest rising and falling with an unfamiliar rhythm.
Fresh soil. Rustling trees. Birds chirped nearby. A gentle stream flowed in the distance.
He sat up sharply. Stella lay beside him, stirring slowly.
"Stella! Wake up!"
She groaned softly, blinking at him in dazed confusion.
Steeve turned—his heart slammed against his ribs.
Humanoid figures stood in the distance. Watching.
But they were different. No metal implants. No robotic limbs.Pure flesh. Pure life.
A shudder ran through him. His voice was barely a whisper.
"A new world... or is it a dream?"
