Chapter 12:
The Lost Kingdom | Nova Terra Chronicles
The horn blows for the final time.
Without hesitation, Blaidd ascends, bringing forth his trump-card at the start of battle.
His body radiated with golden light as his Broken ArchAngel form ignited--wings of runes laced with the brilliance of the sun burst out from his back, and he surged toward the enemy like a comet. Rikushi, Valentine, and Glonk charged behind him, blades drawn, fists clenched, hearts steeled.
The Foes awaited.
Blaidd's Sun-Beam tore through the arena--but when it struck Magnus and Virgo, it fizzled harmlessly, like mist on armor.
And then, the counterattack began.
Bidus, burning with chaotic power, sprinted at Glonk and Valentine, his movements cracking the earth beneath him.
From the sky, Sana unleashed a rain of plasma bolts, searing hot and blinding bright. One bolt grazed Blaidd's wing--but it was enough. The radiant feathers incinerated instantly, the pain staggering high enough to make Blaidd spiral out of the sky. Blaidd started screaming, as he slammed into the ground with a sickening crunch.
But he wouldn't give up.
With fire in his heart, Blaidd reshaped his crumbling sunfire aura and runes into a blade--a blazing weapon inscribed with all the runic power he could muster up, dubbed the God-Protector, forged from his remaining divine energy.
He roared and lunged at Sana, blade seething with the heat of a dying star.
But just before contact--
A single finger stopped the blade. Magnus, unmoved, had parried the sun itself as if it was a foam sword.
Then Virgo struck Blaidd from the side..
Her kick sent Blaidd crashing into the arena wall. Ribs shattered. Blood spilled. And he... didn't move again.
Meanwhile, Bidus conjured a demonic core, a massive orb of black and red swirling power, and hurled it at Glonk and Valentine.
The two dodged--but the moment they moved, Bidus snapped his fingers.
A barrage of demonic sigils erupted around them. Lasers of hellfire rained down.
It was then that Glonk broke his contract--
He revealed his Forbidden Magic.
The crowd gasped as the arena bent inward, reality folding into a twisting spiral as Glonk's body was consumed in darkness. He roared, summoning a Black Hole in the palm of his hand, condensing gravity and magic into a singularity.
Then--
He threw it.
The void swallowed Bidus whole--obliterating his core magic and slamming him unconscious, his body skidding across the ground like a meteor impact.
The entire arena shuddered.
Magnus and Virgo's eyes widened--not in fear, but in understanding:
"This man could destroy worlds." They both thought.
They rushed Glonk, weapons drawn and energy blazing. He tried to stand again, but--
Snap.
Virgo shattered his arms with a single strike. Magnus slammed his palm into his throat, snapping his neck in an instant.
Glonk fell.
Valentine, now alone, didn't scream.
He simply walked forward.
Quiet, Bloodied, and Determined.
He threw a punch at Magnus--only for it to collide against divine armor.
Valentine coughed blood and collapsed to his knees despite not being touched.
Rikushi called out--his voice rising above the noise.
"I'm nearly ready! Just stall--!!"
Valentine wiped his mouth. He smiled.
Mumbling "Now this'll be fun to watch."
Then--slammed both fists into the ground.
A veil of smoke erupted.
Then... silence.
Then... a charging noise.
A low hum to a high pitch. A thunderclap building from within.
Then--light fill the arena.
A beam of pure, Arcane energy fired from within the smoke, ripping through the battlefield--impaling both Magnus and Virgo in a line of light.
It burned holes through their chests.
Their bodies crumpled.
Dead.
Sana, hovering in the sky, wiped away the smoke with a flick of her wrist.
And standing there, broken and burned--
Valentine.
He was breathing. Barely.
And then he used all the strength in this legs to jump and he grabbed a hold of her arm, dragging her down from the weight.
Sana's eyes widened. "Let go."
She fired a blast into his side, almost tearing his body in half.
But he didn't let go. He was using all of his strength to make sure she stays there and close to the ground.
And as she stared at him--
A figure appeared behind him. Which prompted Valentine to let the pain and tiredness overtake him as he falls to the ground, smiling.
A giant, white-winged being.
A radiant Halo.
Circles of celestial magic spinning around it as if they were using it as an energy source.
A divine sword floating above its hand.
Sana blinked--then felt the world spin.
Then she saw her own body, headless, as her vision faded.
Her head hit the ground.
The arena went still.
Victory, but... The crowd didn't cheer. They didn't move.
They simply watched in disbelief as the white-winged figure faded into glowing particles... revealing Rikushi, still standing where the angel once hovered.
The arena exploded in cries and shouts.
The announcer's voice shook as he called it:
"The winners of the 775th Arena Games... Team 1 of the NTG!"
As medics rushed in, lifting what few could still breathe, Rikushi stood tall. His team--battered, broken, and near death--had won.
And then--
The announcer stepped forward.
"...As tradition allows, the star of the Arena Games may now challenge one of the 21 World Leaders..."
All eyes turned to Rikushi.
His reply was immediate.
"I want to fight all of them."
Gasps echoed across the coliseum.
The announcer stammered.
"W-we accept. But--under one condition. You may bring three allies of our choosing."
"Your companions will be--"
"Valentine. LuLu..."
"...and Toku."
Rikushi didn't blink.
Toku became frozen in shock at hearing his name being called for the final fight of the year.
The arena trembled. The skies darkened far across Nova Terra--
For the first time in ages, the 21 World Leaders would gather.
And the world would soon watch the greatest battle in Arena Games...no, in the World.
