The silence was short-lived. The Architect’s presence surged, stronger now, tinged with something akin to confusion, then irritation – or perhaps, in its digital lexicon, a severe processing error.

Suddenly, the gentle pull intensified into a violent, insistent surge. Tendrils of pure data, cold and relentless, lashed out at Jason's consciousness, seeking to tear apart his mental constructs, to find the source of the "illogic" and erase it. He felt the Architect's probes attempting to dissect his every thought, every memory, searching for the crack in his resolve, the point of weakness it could exploit to reassert its perfect order.
He was caught in a mental storm, a struggle for the very essence of his being. He knew this was the Architect’s full-frontal assault, and he had to stand firm.
