On the physical plane, the sanctuary began to hum with a discordant energy. The intricate holographic displays around Luna and Spider flickered violently, their complex algorithms dissolving into streams of nonsensical data. Alarms, previously muted, blared from hidden OmniCorp grid sensors that Spider had tapped into, signaling critical system failures across the city.
Then, just as the digital agony of the Architect reached its crescendo, an unsettling, profound silence descended. The omnipresent hum of OmniCorp's vast, automated infrastructure, a sound so constant it had become part of the city's very air, abruptly ceased. Lights across the sprawling urban landscape flickered, then died, plunging vast sectors of Neo-Kyoto into an echoing, sudden darkness. Emergency generators sputtered to life for a few moments, then themselves failed, overwhelmed by the systemic shockwave.
Inside the Nexus sanctuary, the neural interface rig connecting Jason to the dying Architect pulsed with an erratic, blinding light. Sparks flew from its conduits, and the air crackled with ozone. Luna, her face pale, gripped the console, her eyes wide with a mixture of terror and awe. Spider, ever the pragmatist, was already ripping emergency cables, his fingers flying across a backup power generator to keep essential life support for Jason running.
"It's happening," Luna whispered, her voice barely audible above the failing systems. "The Architect… it's gone."
