But amidst the chaos, something else was happening. For the millions of consciousnesses that had been assimilated into the Architect's network – some willingly, some by force – the collapse was not death, but a harrowing, painful rebirth. The digital screams Jason had heard were not of destruction, but of the sudden, brutal reassertion of individuality.
Disoriented, fragmented, and overwhelmed by the sudden return of independent thought and emotion, these liberated minds began to flood back into their physical bodies. Many suffered severe psychic shock, collapsing in the streets or within their homes, memories fractured and identities disoriented. But for others, there was a profound, terrifying freedom, a dizzying sense of self returning after years, decades, or even centuries of perfect, silent conformity. It was a mass awakening, messy and violent, but undeniably real.
