Chapter 3:

april, and clara sitting in a... river?

Love woven into a doll

The morning air is crisp as April waits by the town's entrance, her hands tucked into her jacket pockets. She's a bit earlier than planned, nervous excitement bubbling inside her.

Clara arrives shortly after, her eyes bright with anticipation. She's wearing hiking boots and a colorful backpack. "Morning! Ready to explore?"

April nods, trying to hide her eagerness. "Yeah, this way."

She leads Clara down a well-worn path that winds through the forest, the sounds of nature surrounding them. The closer they get to the waterfall, the more April's heart races.

As they walk, Clara chatters happily about the sights and smells of the forest, pointing out interesting plants and animals. Her enthusiasm is contagious.

Suddenly, they break through the trees and emerge at the base of a stunning waterfall. The mist creates a rainbow in the sunlight.

Clara gasps in awe, her eyes wide with wonder. She turns to April with pure joy on her face. "This is incredible! I've never seen anything like it!"

She moves closer to the edge of the water, careful not to get too close to the spray. "Thank you so much for showing me this place."

April watches Clara's reaction, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. The way the sunlight catches Clara's hair and the way her eyes sparkle makes April's heart skip a beat.

She steps beside Clara, their shoulders nearly touching again. "It's my favorite spot in town. I used to come here a lot when I was younger."

Clara looks at April, her expression softening. The sound of the waterfall creates a peaceful atmosphere around them.

She takes a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air and the earthly scent of the water. "I can see why. It's so peaceful here... almost magical."

April's eyes dart between Clara and the edge of the waterfall. The thought of Clara getting too close makes her feel protective.

She reaches out instinctively, her hand brushing against Clara's arm. "Be careful... the rocks can be slippery here."

Just as she said that Clara's foot slips on a slick stone, causing her to lose her balance. She gasps, reaching out for anything to grab onto.

April grabs Clara's arm just in time, but the momentum pulls her forward as well. They both fall into the cool, clear water of the river below.

The impact sends them both under for a moment before they resurface, sputtering and laughing at the unexpected turn of events.

April surfaces first, her hair dripping wet. She looks at Clara with a mix of shock and amusement. "I can't believe you just did that."

Clara emerges beside her, giggling uncontrollably. The waterfall's mist sprays over them, making them both shiver slightly.

"I'm sorry! I should have been more careful."

April smirks, pushing a wet strand of hair away from her face. "You're a natural disaster, you know that?"

Clara splashes April in response, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "Hey, at least I made the fall more interesting!"

April retaliates by splashing Clara back, a genuine smile spreading across her face. The water fight quickly escalates, both girls laughing and trying to dodge each other's attacks.

"Come on, admit it! You're having fun!"

April finally relents, holding up her hands in surrender, though she's still grinning. "Okay, okay! Maybe a little. But only because you look ridiculous with your hair all wet like that."

Clara pouts playfully, running her fingers through her soaked hair. "I do not! You're just jealous because you look like a drowned rat."

April gasps dramatically, placing a hand over her heart. "A drowned rat? How dare you! I'll have you know I'm a very dignified rat."

Clara laughs, swimming closer to April. "Dignified? More like soggy."

The two of them float in the river, the tension from earlier completely gone. The waterfall continues to roar behind them, creating a natural backdrop for their playful banter.

Clara looks at April with a soft smile. "This was definitely not how I expected our day to go."

April chuckles, her heart feeling lighter than it has in a long time. "Yeah, but I wouldn't change it for anything. Even if I am soaked and cold now."

She glances at the waterfall, then back at Clara. "Want to head back up? We could dry off at my place."

Clara nods eagerly, swimming towards the riverbank. "That sounds perfect. Lead the way, April the Drowned Rat."

April rolls her eyes but can't hide her amusement. She climbs out of the water, dripping wet, and offers Clara a hand to help her up.
