Chapter 9:

A Summoning, Not a Reincarnation!

Oops, we're immortal

The front gate of Ben’s base was almost destroyed. In this condition, the base was completely vulnerable.
Elara and Ben were sitting next to each other outside the entrance, covered in dirt with wounded bodies and messy clothes.

Ben placed his hand on Elara’s shoulder.
“Hey, little girl! Aren’t you gonna tell me what exactly you did?”
Elara looked at him.
“That move of yours was totally unpredictable,” Ben said with a laugh. “The robot got pierced right in the middle…”

Elara smirked.
“You might not believe it, but I honestly have no idea why that happened!”
“Oh, by the way, kid—your eye isn’t blue anymore… It’s gold.”
“What?? What do you mean it’s gold?” Elara stood up and hurried toward the main tent.
Ben followed her. Elara looked into a mirror and saw that it was true—her eye had turned gold.
She suddenly screamed,
“WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE?!”

Ben was sitting in his chair inside the main tent, talking to one of his crew members, while Elara was pacing nervously in front of him.
“What does this mean? What should I do?… Wait, what if I’m not immortal anymore?!… How do I even die?!… No, why should I die for no reason?!”

Ben took a deep breath and laughed lightly.
“Hey, little girl, you’re overthinking it! Last time your eye changed color too, remember? You got a cool fighting skill out of it.”
He grinned and stepped closer.
“Who knows what you’ll be able to do with this one?”

Elara went poker-faced again.
“That’s exactly the problem!” she said, walking back and forth.
“How do I know where it works and where it doesn’t? And anyway, my last skill was better, and now I don’t even know if I still have it…”

Suddenly, a man’s voice interrupted her thoughts:
“Hello and good day! I’m your new assistant!”

Elara spun around trying to find where the voice was coming from, but she saw no one.
“Where are you?! What are you doing to me?”

Ben, who could only see Elara spinning in circles and talking to herself, sighed.
“Great… we lost her.”

While she was spinning, Elara heard a loud, goofy laugh.
“I’m so glad I get to work with someone this hilarious!”

The voice cleared its throat.
“Don’t worry, little girl!”
Elara snapped back, annoyed.
“Why are you calling me that too?! Where even are you, and what do you want from me?!”

The mysterious voice laughed again and spoke in a cheerful tone.
“You’re amazing, seriously.” It cleared its throat again.
“Elara! I’m your assistant—and technically, your golden eye.”

“My golden eye? Wait, what do you mean? Is a person living in my eyeball or something? Are you hiding in my iris?”

The voice continued,
“No! Of course there’s not a person in your eye. At first, I thought you were just cute, but now I see you’re a bit slow too.”

“Anyway, Elara, because you used your blue eye skill properly along with your previous power, you’ve now received a new ability with the golden eye. That power is me… and the golden spear technique you used earlier!”

“Wait… are you saying I got this like… as a reward?”

Ben was still standing nearby, watching her. He got a bit worried and told Talon to take Elara to her room so she could rest.

Talon carried her like a baby into her room, while Elara was screaming to be let go.

Sitting on her bed, Elara called out,
“Hey! Hey, golden eyeball?! You still there?”

A second later, she heard a throat-clearing sound from her assistant.

“Wait—how do you even have a throat to clear?!”

The voice paused, then replied,
“Wow… now I see you’re not just funny and dumb, you’re nosy too!”

“Oh great. Now even my inner voice is roasting me.”

“I am NOT your inner voice!” the assistant snapped.
“Anyway, I’m here to help you control your powers and keep them balanced. I can also teach you how to unlock other eye abilities and how to reach new ones.”

“So you’re like one of those in-game guides or tutorials?”

“Yeah, something like that. Also, just so you know, you weren’t reincarnated—you were summoned as a queen!”

Elara made a weird shocked face and shouted:
“WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!”

“What do you mean, summoned as a queen?! Don’t tell me I have to marry some weird creature from this world!”

“Noooooo you idiot—” the voice paused. “Sorry. But no, you don’t have to marry anyone. That’s just a term we use to refer to you.”

“I still don’t get it. Why are you calling me a queen? What exactly am I supposed to do?”

“Oh my god, are you just pretending not to understand?!” the voice sighed. “Let me put it this way: you’re going through a special process to become a queen… but under some unique rules.”

Elara stared blankly at the wall, trying to figure it out—but she couldn’t.

“My god… fine, I’ll make it even simpler!”
“You were chosen to help people and creatures in this world. If you succeed, you’ll officially become the Queen—which means you’ll be the strongest of all the people with colored-eye powers!”

“Reaaaaaally?! So it’s like those anime where someone becomes a Demon Lord or something?!”

“Well… yeah, kind of like that.” The voice paused again.
“And to become a full Queen, you’ll need to master both the Golden Eye and the Eye of Darkness. Once you do, your eyes will be complete, and you’ll be able to use every eye power out there—or even change their colors however you like.”

“That sounds amazing!! This is gonna be so much fun!!”

“Don’t rush it, Elara! Don’t rush it…”

Elara squinted suspiciously at the wall. Then the voice returned: “But you should know… just because you’re becoming a queen doesn’t mean everything will be sunshine and rainbows. Whenever you gain something… you have to lose something in return. And what you’ll lose is………….....”
