Chapter 16

Astera’s bedroom in the Floral Kingdom palace is calm and dimly lit by the soft glow of bioluminescent flowers growing along the walls. He’s sitting cross-legged on his bed, his phone resting in his hands.

He scrolls through messages for a moment, then opens a new chat.

Astera (typing):

Hey Nalea, how’s your day been?

He sets the phone down and leans back, letting his eyes drift toward the ceiling. The faint hum of the palace gardens fills the room.

After a short pause, his phone buzzes.

Nalea (text):

Hey! Pretty good, just the usual—class, practice, and way too much homework. You?

Astera smiles softly to himself and types back.

Astera:

Same here. Tough day but glad it’s over. Got any plans for tonight?

His thumb hovers over the send button, then presses it.

The phone buzzes almost immediately.

Nalea:

Not really, might just chill. Maybe catch up on some reading. You?

Astera looks thoughtful for a moment, then types.

Astera:

Probably just gonna relax too. Maybe play some games or listen to music. Want to hang out later? I know a quiet spot near the palace gardens.

He waits, anticipation flickering behind his calm exterior.

Nalea:

Cool! What time should I meet you?

Astera types quickly.

Astera:

How about 6pm tomorrow? Gives us some time to chill before it gets too late.

He puts the phone down for a moment, thinking about the peaceful spot near the palace gardens—a hidden alcove surrounded by blooming flowers and the gentle sound of trickling water.

The phone buzzes again.

Nalea:

Perfect. Should I bring anything?

Astera grins and types back.

Astera:

Just yourself. Maybe something warm to wear. It can get chilly by the water.

A brief pause, then another buzz.

Nalea:

Got it. Looking forward to it.

Astera leans back in his chair, feeling a rare calmness wash over him.

ASTERA (to himself):

Yeah... me too.
