Chapter 27: Absolute?
As I lean casually against the wall, I find myself uttering the words, “Oops, there goes everything,” I murmur with a casual smirk, my tone far too light for the weight of what just transpired. The air around us is thick with tension, but I brush it off. "Miss me?" I inquire with a nonchalant smile. With a flicker of my fingers, I use my unique ability—creation manipulation—to effortlessly restore what had just been obliterated. In an instant, I teleport back to my sister Katsume's side, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.
When I arrive, I find Katsume with a familiar pout on her lips. “You’re such a jerk, big bro. And here I thought you'd be late like always!”” she exclaims, her arms crossed defiantly. I can't help but chuckle at her playful accusation.
“What can I say?” I reply, adopting a relaxed demeanor. “I never hesitate to keep my word. Now come here; your big brother missed his adorable little sister.” I reach down, gently patting her head as I soak in the warmth of our sibling connection.
Katsume gazes up at me, her large eyes filled with curiosity and concern. “But, big bro, you’ve been so busy lately. What happened to our training?” There’s a hint of disappointment in her voice, as if she’s worried that I might not have enough time to share with her.
I laugh lightly, shaking my head. “You never asked, silly,” I say with a laugh, ruffling her hair again to ease the mood. “Remember, just ask when you’re ready to train, alright? I’m always here for you.”
Her face brightens instantly, as she looks at me with renewed hope and excitement. “Really, big bro?” she asks eagerly, her eyes sparkling with the kind of pleading that only a younger sibling can master.
“Yes, really,” I assure her, smiling softly.
In that instant, she throws her arms around me in a tight hug, her excitement palpable. “Yay! Now I can grow up big and strong just like big bro!” Her enthusiasm is contagious, and I can’t help but feel a swell of pride at her determination.
However, this joyous moment is abruptly interrupted as I become aware that we are not alone. A soft sound catches my attention, and I turn around just in time to see someone clapping slowly behind me, breaking the atmosphere of our reunion.
“Well, well. Been a while, hasn’t it?,” a smooth female voice echoes through the room, sending ripples of confusion down my spine.
“And?” I respond, my tone serious, feeling the shift in the air. “Who are you?” I pivot to face the source of the voice, my senses on high alert.
“Geez, isn’t that a bit rude? After I traveled all this way, you don’t even remember me?” The voice carries a playful tone, but it only adds to my discomfort. “Do you have any idea how far I’ve come just to arrive here?”
As the sun rises, it casts a golden light over her figure, illuminating her from the shadows. She stands there, graceful and striking, with long, luscious white hair that cascades down her shoulders, perfectly framing her delicate features. Her eyes—bright crimson with streaks of gold—burn with an intensity that gnaws at my instincts. She is elegantly dressed in a meticulously tailored white dress, paired with swift white pants and polished dress shoes that reflect her refined taste.
I find myself feeling clueless still as I tell her, “Nope, I still don’t think I know you. I know a face when I see one, and frankly, your face doesn't ring any bells.”
She smirks knowingly, the corners of her lips curling in a way that hints at hidden knowledge. “That’s correct. You may not know me, but I know everything about you. I understand that you’re not merely average or human; you’re something else entirely. You really are the absolute one, huh?”
“What is that supposed to mean?” I ask, feeling a mix of intrigue and frustration, still hoping to glean some clarity from her cryptic words. “And you still haven’t answered my question about who you are.”
With a teasing grin, she replies, “In time, you will come to know who I am. Until we meet again.” And just like that, she vanishes into thin air, leaving a shimmer in the sunlight in her wake.
Katsume, seeming baffled, turns to me. “What was that all about?” Her brows furrow in confusion, mirroring my own inner turmoil.
Shaking my head, still trying to process the encounter, I reply, “Honestly? I’ve got no clue. But something tells me... this isn't the last we'll see of her.” There are far too many unanswered questions swirling in my mind, and right now, all that matters is that I’m here with my sister, ready to focus on what truly matters: our bond and the adventures that lie ahead.
