Chapter 13:
Am I losing Interest in Writing?
You know what, I will add this one too.
This is just a chapter of my hype about my favorite game genres are rising. If you are not really into this, you can skip this chapter.
Have you ever thought of a game where you, as a player, play as a ghost? Controlling NPC/enemy? Well, that's my favorite niche game genre.
I am so sad that not a lot of people have talked about this except for... ehm hm... some group. Like, it has been a genre for a long time, but it has never really been talked about in this era of gaming. The only recent rise was when Super Mario Odyssey was released. I am so surprised by that. Mario, using a concept of possession, was never in my bingo card. And you know what? It was actually pretty cool to see.
Then, in 2022, there was a game that came out that made me hope for this genre to come back. And that was Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed.
I remembered this game being so fun to watch through because I've never played, and the fact that they remade it is so cool. I immediately bought that game through Steam and even finished it in a single sitting. It's that good.
...
Well, that was not it. My hope was lost once again.
...
Until 2024, when I stumbled upon, not one, not two, but four games coming out using the possession mechanics.
Hauntii, Soulmask, Amedama, and Zlime: Return of Demon Lord.
And now I'm confident that many games using possession mechanics will be in the future. We already have those, then there was... the not exactly good game, Slitterhead. (Seriously, though, that game was boring.) So, I'm highly, highly confident that there are more games in this niche genre to come.
...
Boy oh boy, what do we have here?
The Demons Told Me to Make This Game
Shadows of the Afterland
While browsing Steam, I also stumbled upon some old (not really) games that also have this genre, like Sister Possessions, The Will of Arthur Flabbington, Shadow Gambit: The Curse Crew, Great Ambition of the Slime, and many more.
I guess I just don't really look into this genre really hard. I wish that this genre lived on; I really want to play a game with this mechanic. I really do.
About TDTMtMTG and SotA, like other games that I stumbled upon, I will buy them day one. Again, really wish this genre gets the attention it deserves. It's a really unique take on gaming, but not a lot of people see it being cool.
That's the ramble!
See you... I don't really know when this chapter is going to happen again, but yeah. See you another time.
