Chapter 1:
Other World's Mystery Club
A student's life is very hard... especially when you need to climb a hill in order to get to school. Seriously? who's idea is it to build the school at the very top of this hill.
National Academy of Signia, the school I'm attending right now in this other world is a little far from the apartment I'm renting right now. Although there are school dormitories inside the academy, the only reason I didn't go there is because the rental fee is too expensive and only rich people can afford those but to be honest it's worth the money. I only went there once and the inside is on a par with a normal high-class hotel.
I can only sigh at how poor I am.
I continued walking on the paved road in front of me. At least there's no way you can be lost on the way to school since it's only a one-way road until you reach the school gate. This hill is also surrounded by a forest so the only thing you can see outside the road is green plants and large trees, I don't mind this lush green scenery since it's a different kind of atmosphere from when I was back home. There is also no one around since it's only six in the morning if we're using Earth time, the only thing I can hear is my footsteps, the birds chirping and the wind blowing occasionally from left to right.
"It's really a pleasant morning." I said as I let out a yawn.
After a few minutes of walking I eventually reach the school gate, I wave to the school guard and goes straight to the club building. Classes usually start at eight so I still have a few minutes of free time, and then we'll have a mock battle for magic training at ten which I absolutely will lose, I haven't won a single magic battle since I came to this school. The club building is located on the east side of the academy, which consists of twelve floors... that just shows how many clubs are there in this school, although this is only the cultural club building. There is a sports club building with the same size as this building on the west side of the academy.
I enter the club building as the automatic door opens, even though I go through this every time I'm still in awe at how large this building is.
"There is no one here yet." I walk and proceed to the elevator, in order to go to my club room.
I may not look like it but I'm actually in the Mystery Club, of how I got in this club I just choose randomly among the clubs with the lowest number of members when in actuality the Mystery Club has no members, that's why when I joined I'm the only member. Clubs in this academy doesn't get dissolve even if there are no members because most of them contributed to the prominence of this school. The Mystery Club is one of those distinguished clubs although most of the members already graduated two years ago, that's what I read on one of their compiled books, they also have tons of research journals and important stuffs in the club room. The only reason I joined the Mystery Club because there are no members and the teacher said I'll get additional points if I joined a club, now it serves as my personal hangout spot when I'm bored.
After getting off the elevator I walk to the club room which is located at the farthest room in the west from the elevator in this third floor. I scan my school ID on the scanner near the door and enter the room.
I take a seat at one of chairs near the table in the middle of the room, put my bag on the table, take out a book I borrowed from the library yesterday and started reading. This is my every day morning routine since I started studying in this school.
Come to think of it, a month already passed since I came to this world. I don't have any intention in studying in this other world in the first place but I passed the entrance exams to Seikai Academy. On how passing the entrance exams to Seikai Academy led me to going to another world let's go back a year ago, the year is 2087 when a dimensional rift appeared above the Pacific Ocean, a little near Japan. The dimensional rift connects to the world where I am right now, a lot of political stuffs happened for about eight months that involves a lot of countries that even I couldn't remember, in the end they give the right to Japan to be the representative of the Earth. Then a lot of talks happened again with the representatives of Atlas (the name of another world), the representatives are from the Kingdom of Ribel. The meeting with the representatives took in Japan several times, before I know it the Japan's Seikai Academy already had talked with the Kingdom of Ribel's National Academy of Signia and as intended exchanging first year students between the two school happened in the pretense of cultural exchange. I only applied to study in another world because of the high prospects of getting a stable job in the future after I graduated from this another world.
And that's the reason why I'm here... the students of Seikai Academy that got accepted into National Academy of Signia didn't have trouble in adapting on living and studying here since the technology here in Ribel is on a par with or maybe even higher than in our world. The only difference is that they have magic and other extraordinary stuffs here, and pollution is almost nonexistent.
"..." I continued reading the book in my hand while pondering about what to do in the future.
A few minutes later I heard a knock on the door's club room. It's unusual for the teacher to visit at this time of the day so who is it? Almost no one visits this place aside from that teacher.
I reluctantly close the book in my hand and stand up.
"Who is it?" I asked while opening the door.
"Oh, it's the outsider." the little blonde girl in front of me said.
"It's just you Charlotte, what are you doing here? Albert's with you too, what happened?" I asked the two of them.
"You're in the Mystery Club, Seiji. That's a surprise." Albert said with a smile.
"Surprisingly, yes." I said as I walk back to my seat while letting out a yawn, it seems that I'm still sleepy.
They follow behind me as I walk back inside, looking around the club room. I offer them seats after before taking a seat myself.
"So what happened?" I asked them for the second time after the two of them take a seat. Why do they have serious look on their faces?
"Do you happen to take requests here? Ms. Jeanne said that if you have something that you don't want to do, you can just ask the Mystery Club." Albert answered me.
Oh, I remembered the Mystery Club does something like that in the past, taking care of various stuffs and requests from the students. I read it from one of their books in the bookshelves behind me, I think it's called [Daily Lives in the Mystery Club] or something, it's like the club's diary written by one of the Mystery Club's member... I can't remember where I put it after reading, I'll find it later.
Albert look at me with expectant eyes.
"But aren't student's requests usually handled by the Student Council?"
"The student council usually deals with school-related requests and they always prioritize the important ones, and this request is actually not school-related and not that much of an issue."
"It's an issue!" Charlotte retorted.
"Yes, it's actually an issue." You change sides fast, man.
"But..." Do I really have the right to accept requests? What if I did something and I didn't complete the request? Won't I be held accountable?
"Ms. Jeanne said you're always free anyways and we'll properly compensate you too after."
"It seems that I need to hear you out first before I accept, dear customers." I said with a serious look on my face, it seems I am fast to change sides too.
Still that teacher... well it's true that I don't have that much anything to do and always free but...
"..." Why are you looking at me like that, Charlotte? She's looking at me with a face that says (is it really okay to trust this guy with a request like this?) Do I look unreliable that much?
After seemingly giving up to understand what I'm thinking, Charlotte started explaining.
"It's about the couple living next door, I can't hear them anymore."
"Eh, isn't that normal? Why are you even eavesdropping at them?" Is this girl crazy?
