Chapter 6:
Crimson Vow
“That’s it.” After the strange man’s approval, Elyan told Julie and Gray about everything Alexander had told him before.
Of course, they were in no way less shocked than Elyan was before.
“There is only one day left and we will leave... perhaps forever. Finish everything and we will meet tomorrow morning.” Said Elyan.
After saying goodbye to the two, he wanted to visit somewhere else.
He came in front of his mother’s grave and paid his respects to her. He would be gone for who knows how many years, maybe not even coming back, which was why he had to say goodbye to her before then.
“Maybe if you were here now, you would tell me not to, this is dangerous, and try to do anything to stop me… But I can’t.”
“Because you are my mother, I cannot back out.”
“Because you were everything to me, I will never be able to forgive them.”
He pulled the kitchen knife out of his pocket, and pressed at his palm slowly. At the same time, the crimson liquid dripped down the stems of the white flowers on the tombstone.
Elyan raised his head to the sky and recited his vow, there was no trace of hesitation in his expression: “Just watch, mother, see how I will get justice for you.”
And here he got up and walked away, not daring to turn around again.
The next morning, at nine o’clock, there were four shadows reflecting those figures gathered in front of the inconspicuous house on the hill.
Elyan stood with a solemn expression, wearing a plain black jacket and long pants. Next to him was Gray, pressing the silver frame of his glasses. He had a green jacket and short pants, and he looked like an adventurer in the jungle. As for Julie, she showed up in the same white school shirt and leggings, she thought this was more suitable for traveling.
Each of them had a small bag on their back, it was things they cherished most, they couldn’t help but bring it as a memory with them.
With Alexander in front of them checking the state of the three, Julie couldn’t help but ask the question that was on all of their minds: “Uncle Alexander, you made it clear that we would be heading out but, how will we be able to leave the city?”
Julie was right, as for Peace City, it wasn’t as if the city gates were closed, rather strangely there weren’t any at all. It was as if the city was a prison from which you could not escape.
“Hmm, good question.” Alexander muttered.
“I think that I have to go back in time a little and let you know something, the truth about ‘Peace’!”
Hearing this, the three of them paid attention and focused on listening carefully. Through Alexander, they were able to confirm that all the information they knew about ‘Peace’ had been falsified in some way.
“Humph, two hundred years... In the time in which the world was not under the control of the Kurayami yet. ’Peace’ was not like anything as you see it now.”
“These walls, none of them existed.” As he pointed to the horizon, Alexander stated.
“Because at that time there was no danger that required its presence because of it. But this has all changed 20 years after that. Because of the appearance of the organization called by Kurayami, and its declaration of world domination”.
“Their appearance was truly something that surprised people. However, in these recent years, after I discovered the whole truth, it has become clear that they had always been preparing for a long time.”
“At the same time from which the Kurayami appeared, another organization was formed, later known as Bihako and it was the first to oppose the Kurayami and their methods.”
“You can say that this organization was the last hope, and it is the one which built the walls of the last city that withstood the Kurayami and was later known as the city of ‘Peace’.”
“I cannot believe!!” It was Julie who spoke, her mouth remained completely open without noticing how her feminine image had been distorted.
As for Gray, he was failing to keep his legs steady.
Only Elyan was a little shocked. He realized that he was still a frog inside the well. He knew nothing about this world, and there were still many hidden matters that needed his attention. However, there was something he wanted to make sure of.
“It is natural that you wouldn’t be able to know this, all books that recorded the real history were burned by Bihako bosses in the past. This was a form of maintaining stability and security. Fearing that the new generation would realize that they are vulnerable to attack by the Kurayami, so chaos and panic spread.”
“Is this really the truth, uncle Alexander? Was that organization really protecting Peace city?” At this moment Elyan sneered.
“I don’t think so.” He thought. The incompetence of this organization was the reason his mother was assassinated.
“What I’m talking about are things that happened decades ago, but now all the Bihako members were exterminated by the Kurayami.” Alexander was able to read Elyan’s thoughts, and he explained directly.
“Hah..!”
“That was before 80 years, and after many battles, the Bihako commander was finally able to overthrow the Kurayami commander.”
“But.. It was too late actually, all other members of the organization were killed during the previous battles. Not only that but the leader of the Kurayami had a newborn heir also.”
“Is this kid the leader of the Kurayami now?” Elyan guessed.
“Yeah, Evren Harris.” Said Alexander with a frown.
“What about the leader of the unknown organization?” Julie asked.
“...He’s dead.” Alexander looked at Elyan for a long time before responding.
Elyan did not know why, but he felt how heavy the word was on Alexander’s tongue.
“...” Gray who was holding his bag with both hands looked towards the city, without knowing what he was thinking.
“Although there is no exit gate, this is not an obstacle for us.” Alexander smiled and said in a confident manner.
“Come on, gather now.” He pulled his sleeves and pointed to his side.
“All three of you, hold on with each other’s hands then let one of you put his other hand over my shoulder.”
The three followed the corresponding procedure, while Elyan grabbed Alexander’s shoulder.
At this time, Elyan saw a strange distortion occurring around Alexander. All external sounds have been isolated, the air suddenly shook around his body, it seemed as if all the surrounding air was gathering together, and in an instant a glow of white light began to emanate from his parts, it was a halo of light.
With Alexander’s will, the rays of light rose and encircled the whole group. As the threads with a brilliant glow came together, they surrounded everyone in layers like a cocoon of white light.
“What is happening?!” Julie and Gray were worried as they examined their bodies, fearing that something dangerous might happen. As for Elyan, he couldn’t keep calm either, like a curious child who saw a small toy for the first time.
“Foosh” In the next second the four bodies began to rise suddenly, and yet a strange force prevented them from losing their balance. Little by little, they rose rapidly away from the surface of the earth, and with Alexander’s control, the mass of light rushed out incredibly fast, flying over the city wall.
The three watched with wide eyes as the clouds moved beside them and the birds soared in front of them. The cool breeze hit their faces, and mixed with the feelings of excitement they felt at the moment it was truly an unforgettable experience.
The ball of light continued like an arrow to shoot out and land on the other side of the wall.
Then it started to descend.
It was a ground mixed with dirt and gravel. After their feet touched the ground, they finally felt comfortable.
Alexander snapped as the points of light faded and the bright glow vanished slowly until it disappeared, everyone was fine.
Julie’s eyes shone, and with her lively expression, she was the first to spontaneously ask Alexander: “What was that?!”
“This is my first time flying.” Gray couldn’t hide his excitement either.
Elyan wanted to inquire, but seeing his two friends’ proactivity, it wasn’t necessary.
“No need to hurry, for one year, I will teach you everything I know about this thing.” Alexander said, noting how long the training would take, and also to suppress their curiosity.
“That’s great.” Julie smiled happily.
However, the person who was most happy about it was Elyan, he didn’t know what Alexander did exactly, but whether it was sorcery or an imaginary force from space, he managed to see where Alexander’s self-confidence came from.
“Hoy, Elyan, Julie.” Gray could only point in front of him, failing to maintain his expression.
And there the scene outside the city was displayed before their eyes.
Alexander was smiling, when a light wind came from the far north. The faces of all three collided with a shiver of disbelief and ecstasy.
There was no corruption, no devastated lands or natural disasters. Only at this moment did they realize that the world was much bigger than they imagined.
All that can be seen are those spacious green meadows that extended beyond sight. And far away, small figures of long mountain ranges were touching the pure blue sky.
“Waq, waq...” Was a swarm of yellow ducks migrating towards the west. “Zeez, zeeez..” The sounds of cicadas and the buzzing of insects. Under the warm breeze, the delicate grass stalks rose as if they were dancing to an inaudible tune, with the sunlight reflecting off the bright green.
Peace and tranquility were the masters of this fascinating place.
Everyone did not speak for a long time, and took a long breath of fresh air.
In the end, it was Alexander who laughed: “There is no need for all this exaggeration. This is nothing compared to where we are going next.”
“Come on, we’re leaving.”
“There is a large forest east of the city, two hundred miles away. It will be about a week’s journey on foot, but we will go running.” As he said this, a provocative smile appeared on Alexander’s face as he waited for the three’s reaction.
“What!!” Hearing that, the three of them immediately thought, Was this uncle crazy? How can a person run this distance?!
“This gentleman officially wants to kill us.” Gray scoffed, he was weaker than Elyan in terms of physical ability, and only slightly stronger than Julie.
“I don’t want excuses.” Alexander rubbed his chin and snorted.
“Do not worry, we will rest from time to time.”
