Silent Words, Burning Hearts
A Toge Inumaki x Reader Story
Chapter 1: Unspoken Tension
The training grounds were empty except for the sound of your labored breathing and the rustle of leaves in the evening breeze. You'd been practicing your cursed technique for hours, pushing yourself harder than usual to distract from the thoughts that had been plaguing you lately.
Thoughts of him.
"Salmon," came a familiar voice behind you, and your heart immediately began racing for reasons that had nothing to do with your training.
You turned to find Toge Inumaki leaning against a tree, his violet eyes studying you with an intensity that made your cheeks flush. His collar was pulled down slightly, revealing more of his cursed speech markings than usual, and you found yourself staring.
"Toge," you breathed, wiping sweat from your brow. "I didn't hear you approach."
He pushed off from the tree and walked closer, his movements fluid and graceful. When he reached you, he was close enough that you could smell his subtle cologne mixed with something uniquely him. He raised his hand and gently touched your cheek, his thumb brushing away a smudge of dirt.
"Tuna mayo," he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. His eyes held a question, and you knew he was asking if you were okay.
"I'm fine," you lied, your voice catching slightly as his thumb continued its gentle caress. "Just training."
His eyes narrowed slightly, and you knew he didn't believe you. Toge had always been perceptive, able to read people better than most despite his limited speech. He stepped even closer, and you could feel the heat radiating from his body.
"Kelp," he murmured, and somehow you understood. What's really wrong?
You looked into those beautiful violet eyes and felt your resolve crumbling. "It's nothing I can put into words," you whispered.
Something shifted in his expression, and his free hand came up to cup your other cheek. For a moment, you thought he might kiss you right there, but instead he rested his forehead against yours, breathing heavily.
"Salmon," he whispered against your lips, so close you could feel his breath.
The tension between you was electric, years of unspoken feelings crackling in the air. But before either of you could close the distance, the sound of approaching footsteps made you spring apart.
"There you are!" Yuji's voice rang out as he jogged over. "We've been looking everywhere for you two. Gojo-sensei wants to see us."
You and Toge exchanged a loaded glance, both breathing heavily. Whatever had almost happened would have to wait.
But as you walked back toward the school, you couldn't ignore the way Toge's fingers brushed against yours, or how his eyes kept finding you with a heat that promised this conversation was far from over.
Chapter 2: Dangerous Games
The mission briefing had been routine, but being paired with Toge for an overnight surveillance assignment felt anything but ordinary. The abandoned building you were stationed in was small, with only one room that wasn't completely compromised by curse damage.
"Looks like we're sharing," you said, trying to keep your voice light as you surveyed the single sleeping bag Ijichi had provided. "Someone miscounted the supplies."
Toge's eyes flickered with something that looked suspiciously like amusement. "Salmon roe," he said with a slight shrug that seemed to say what can you do?
As night fell, you found yourself hyper-aware of every movement he made. The way he efficiently set up the surveillance equipment, how his fingers moved with practiced precision, the way his hair fell across his forehead when he concentrated.
"This is going to be a long night," you muttered, settling down beside him to watch the curse activity monitors.
Hours passed in comfortable silence, but the tension from the training grounds hadn't dissipated. If anything, being alone with him in the intimate darkness made it worse. Every accidental brush of his arm against yours sent electricity shooting through your system.
Around midnight, you started to doze despite your best efforts. Your head gradually fell toward his shoulder, and you were too tired to fight it when he didn't pull away. Instead, you felt his arm come around you, pulling you closer against his side.
You woke up sometime later to find yourself practically in his lap, your face buried in his neck. His scent surrounded you, and you realized his hand was stroking your hair softly.
"Sorry," you whispered, starting to pull away, but his arm tightened around you.
"Tuna," he murmured directly into your ear, his voice husky with sleep. The vibration of his voice so close to your ear made you shiver.
You looked up at him in the dim light filtering through the broken windows. His hair was mussed from sleep, his collar had shifted lower, and his eyes were dark with something that made your breath catch.
"Toge," you whispered, not sure what you were asking for.
His free hand came up to tangle in your hair, and this time when he pulled you closer, you didn't resist. Your lips were inches apart, both of you breathing heavily.
"Is this okay?" you breathed.
"Salmon," he whispered against your lips, and then he was kissing you.
It was soft at first, tentative, but when you responded by pressing closer, something seemed to break free in him. His kiss became hungrier, more demanding, and you could taste the desperation you both felt.
When you finally broke apart, both gasping, his forehead rested against yours again.
"We should—" you started.
"Kelp," he interrupted softly, and you knew he was right. You should stop. You were on a mission, and getting distracted could be dangerous.
But when his thumb traced your swollen lips, you wondered if the most dangerous thing might be stopping.
Chapter 3: Breaking Point
The mission had been successful, but the tension between you and Toge had reached a fever pitch. Back at Tokyo Jujutsu High, you found yourself making excuses to be wherever he was, and catching him doing the same.
It came to a head three days later when you found yourself alone with him in the library late one evening. You'd been researching curse techniques, but your concentration was shot with him sitting across from you, occasionally looking up from his own book to catch your eye.
The silence stretched between you, heavy with unspoken desire. Finally, you couldn't take it anymore.
"Toge," you said quietly, mindful of the library setting. "We need to talk about what happened."
He looked up, his violet eyes immediately focusing on you with that intensity that made your stomach flutter. He closed his book and gave you his full attention.
"I can't stop thinking about it," you admitted, your cheeks flushing. "About you."
Something flashed in his eyes, and he stood up, walking around the table to where you sat. He pulled out the chair next to you and sat down, close enough that your knees touched.
"Salmon," he said softly, and you could hear the emotion in his voice even through the safe word.
"I know it's complicated," you continued, your voice barely above a whisper. "Your cursed speech, the danger... but I can't pretend I don't feel this."
His hand found yours on the table, fingers intertwining. His thumb traced patterns on your skin that made it hard to think straight.
"Tuna mayo?" he asked, and you understood he was asking what you wanted to do about it.
Instead of answering with words, you leaned closer to him. His eyes darkened as he realized your intention, and when your lips met his, it was like a dam bursting.
This kiss was different from the first—hungrier, more desperate. His free hand tangled in your hair while yours fisted in his uniform jacket, pulling him closer. You could feel his restraint breaking down with each passing second.
When you broke apart, both breathing heavily, his eyes were almost black with desire.
"Not here," you whispered, glancing around the library.
"Salmon," he agreed, his voice rougher than usual.
He stood and pulled you with him, leading you through the darkened halls of the school. Your heart pounded as you realized where he was taking you—to his room.
At his door, he paused, his hand on the handle, looking at you with a question in his eyes.
"Yes," you breathed, answering his unspoken question.
The moment the door closed behind you, he had you pressed against it, his body caging you in as his lips found yours again. This time, there was no holding back.
His hands roamed your body with a reverence that made you gasp, and when he pulled back to look at you, his eyes held a heat that promised this night would change everything between you.
"Are you sure?" he mouthed silently, his hands stilling on your waist.
In response, you reached up and slowly pulled down his collar, revealing more of the cursed markings that decorated his mouth and tongue. His breath hitched as your fingers traced the patterns.
"I'm sure," you whispered, and his control finally snapped completely.
Chapter 4: Surrender
Toge's room was dimly lit by moonlight streaming through the window, casting everything in silver shadows. The air between you crackled with electricity as he led you further into the room, his hands never leaving your body.
"You're beautiful," he mouthed silently, his hands framing your face as he looked at you with wonder.
Your response was to kiss him again, pouring all your pent-up longing into the contact. His hands slid down to your waist, pulling you flush against him, and you could feel how much he wanted you.
With gentle but urgent hands, he began working at the buttons of your uniform, his eyes seeking permission with each movement. You helped him, your own hands trembling slightly as you pushed his jacket off his shoulders.
When his shirt joined the pile of discarded clothing, you took a moment to appreciate the lean muscle of his torso, your fingers tracing the lines of his abs. He shuddered under your touch, a soft sound escaping his lips.
"Salmon," he breathed, and somehow you understood he was telling you how good your touch felt.
He lifted you easily, carrying you to his bed where he laid you down with a gentleness that made your heart race. His lips found your neck, pressing soft kisses along your pulse point that made you arch beneath him.
"Toge," you gasped as he found a particularly sensitive spot.
He pulled back to look at you, his hair falling across his forehead, his eyes dark with desire but still holding that question—making sure you wanted this as much as he did.
"Please," you whispered, your hands tangling in his hair.
What followed was a slow, passionate exploration of each other. Every touch was deliberate, every kiss full of the emotion you'd both been holding back. He worshipped your body with his hands and mouth, drawing sounds from you that seemed to drive him wild.
When you finally moved together, it was with a desperation born of months of tension and longing. His forehead pressed against yours as you moved in perfect synchronization, both of you lost in the sensation of finally being connected in every way possible.
"I love you," you gasped against his lips, unable to hold the words back any longer.
His response was to kiss you deeply, his body conveying what his voice couldn't say. But when he pulled back to look at you, his lips moved silently: "I love you too."
Afterwards, you lay tangled together, your head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat slowly return to normal. His fingers traced lazy patterns on your bare shoulder, and you felt more content than you had in months.
"Was it okay?" you asked softly, suddenly feeling vulnerable. "I know your cursed speech makes things complicated..."
He tilted your chin up so you were looking at him and smiled—a real, genuine smile that you rarely got to see with his collar usually covering half his face.
"Salmon," he said softly, and the emotion in his voice told you everything you needed to know.
You fell asleep in his arms, feeling safer and more complete than you ever had before.
Chapter 5: Morning After
You woke up to sunlight streaming through the window and the feeling of strong arms wrapped around you. For a moment, you were disoriented, but then the memories of the night before came flooding back, making you smile.
Toge was still asleep, his face peaceful and relaxed in a way you'd never seen before. His hair was mussed, and without his collar, you could see all of the cursed markings around his mouth. He looked younger, more vulnerable.
Carefully, trying not to wake him, you traced one of the markings with your fingertip. His eyes fluttered open at the touch, immediately focusing on you with a warmth that made your heart skip.
"Good morning," you whispered.
"Salmon," he replied softly, his voice husky with sleep. His arms tightened around you, pulling you closer.
You could have stayed like that forever, but reality intruded when you heard voices in the hallway outside. Students were getting up, starting their day, and you suddenly realized the precarious position you were in.
"I should go," you said reluctantly. "Before someone notices I'm not in my room."
His expression fell slightly, but he nodded in understanding. As you started to sit up, though, his hand caught your wrist.
"Tuna mayo," he said, and you could hear the question in it.
"I don't regret it," you assured him quickly. "Last night was... perfect. But we need to be careful. You know how the school feels about relationships between students."
He sat up, running a hand through his messy hair, and nodded again. But then he reached for his phone, typing quickly before showing you the screen.
Can I see you later? Alone?
Your heart fluttered at the hopeful expression in his eyes. "Yes," you breathed. "Tonight?"
He smiled and typed again. Training ground 3. After dinner.
You leaned over and kissed him softly, marveling at how natural it felt already. "It's a date."
As you gathered your clothes and prepared to sneak back to your room, you caught him watching you with an expression of such tenderness it took your breath away.
"What?" you asked.
He just shook his head, but his lips moved silently: "You're perfect."
The rest of the day passed in a haze of stolen glances and secret smiles. During combat training, you found yourself distracted by the memory of his hands on your body. During lectures, you caught him staring at you with that same heated look from the night before.
By the time evening arrived, you were practically vibrating with anticipation.
Training ground 3 was secluded, surrounded by trees that would hide you from any curious eyes. When you arrived, Toge was already there, leaning against a tree much like he had been that first day when everything changed.
But this time, when you approached him, there was no hesitation. He pushed off from the tree and met you halfway, his hands immediately finding your waist as he pulled you close.
"Hi," you breathed against his lips.
"Kelp," he replied, and you could hear the smile in his voice.
This time, your coming together was slower, more deliberate. Under the stars, he made love to you with a passion that left you breathless and wanting more.
Chapter 6: Complications
Your secret relationship with Toge had been going on for two weeks when Gojo-sensei called you into his office. You tried to keep your expression neutral as you entered, but something about his knowing smile made your stomach drop.
"Sit down," he said, gesturing to the chair across from his desk. "We need to talk."
You sat, your hands folded in your lap, trying to project innocence. "Is this about my recent mission performance? Because I can explain—"
"It's not about your missions," Gojo interrupted, his blindfolded gaze somehow still managing to seem piercing. "It's about you and Inumaki."
Your blood ran cold. "I don't know what you mean."
"Don't you?" He leaned back in his chair, that infuriating smile still playing at his lips. "You've been distracted, both of you. Stealing glances, disappearing at the same times, that hickey you tried to cover with makeup yesterday..."
Your hand instinctively went to your neck, and Gojo's smile widened.
"Relax," he said. "I'm not here to lecture you about school policy. I'm here because I'm concerned about how this might affect your abilities as jujutsu sorcerers."
"It won't—" you started.
"Emotional attachments can be dangerous in our line of work," he continued. "They can make you reckless, cause you to prioritize the wrong things in life-or-death situations."
You felt anger flare in your chest. "So we're just supposed to be alone forever? Never connect with anyone?"
"I didn't say that." His tone was gentler now. "I'm saying you need to be smart about it. And you need to be prepared for the consequences if the higher-ups find out."
Before you could respond, there was a knock at the door. "Come in," Gojo called.
Toge entered, taking in the scene with sharp eyes. You could see the tension in his shoulders as he realized what was happening.
"Ah, Inumaki. Perfect timing." Gojo gestured for him to sit. "I was just having a chat with your girlfriend about the complexities of relationships in the jujutsu world."
Toge's eyes flicked to you, and you could see the concern there. "Salmon?" he asked.
"We're not in trouble," you assured him quickly. "Gojo-sensei is just... giving us advice."
"The school has rules about student relationships for good reasons," Gojo continued. "But I also understand that matters of the heart rarely follow rules. So here's what's going to happen."
He leaned forward, his expression becoming serious. "You're going to be more careful. No more obvious displays, no more letting your personal relationship affect your professional performance. And if I get even a hint that your feelings for each other are compromising your safety or the safety of others, I'll have to take action."
Both you and Toge nodded solemnly.
"That said," Gojo's smile returned, "young love is a beautiful thing. Just... try to keep it from getting you killed, okay?"
As you left his office together, Toge caught your hand, squeezing it gently.
"Are you okay?" you asked quietly.
"Salmon," he replied, but you could see the worry in his eyes.
That night, as you lay in his arms once again, the weight of Gojo's words hung over you both. Love in the jujutsu world was dangerous, but as Toge held you close, his fingers tracing patterns on your skin, you knew you wouldn't give this up for anything.
The question was: would you be able to keep each other safe while keeping your hearts intact?
Chapter 7: Forever Words
Three months had passed since Gojo's warning, and you and Toge had become masters of discretion. Your relationship had only grown stronger, built on stolen moments and silent communications that went deeper than words.
Tonight was different, though. You'd both barely survived a particularly dangerous mission, and the brush with death had left you both shaken and desperate for each other.
In the safety of his room, with the door locked and curtains drawn, Toge held you like you might disappear at any moment. His hands shook slightly as they traced your face, your arms, reassuring himself that you were real and whole.
"I thought I lost you," you whispered against his neck, breathing in his familiar scent.
He pulled back to look at you, his eyes bright with unshed tears. His hands framed your face as he mouthed silently: "Never. You'll never lose me."
What followed was different from all the times before. Every touch was reverent, every kiss desperate and full of relief. You moved together with an urgency born of the knowledge of how quickly everything could be taken away.
Afterwards, as you lay entwined, your skin still flushed and breathing still uneven, Toge reached for something on his nightstand. When he turned back to you, he was holding a small velvet box.
Your breath caught. "Toge..."
He opened the box to reveal a simple, elegant ring. Not an engagement ring, but something more meaningful—a promise ring, with a small violet stone that matched his eyes perfectly.
With shaking hands, he pulled out his phone and typed: I know we're young, and I know our world is dangerous. But I also know that I want to spend whatever time I have loving you. This is my promise that no matter what happens, you'll always be the most important thing in my world.
Tears spilled down your cheeks as he slipped the ring onto your finger. It fit perfectly.
"Yes," you whispered, even though he hadn't asked a question. "Yes to all of it. To whatever time we have, to facing the danger together, to loving you for as long as I'm breathing."
He kissed you then, soft and sweet and full of promise. When he pulled back, his lips moved silently, forming words you'd never heard him say before: "Marry me. Someday, when we're older, when the world is safer... marry me."
"Yes," you breathed again, and his smile was brilliant.
You made love again then, slowly and tenderly, sealing the promise you'd made to each other. And as dawn broke over Tokyo Jujutsu High, painting the room in golden light, you knew that whatever dangers lay ahead, you'd face them together.
Your love might be dangerous in the jujutsu world, but it was also your greatest strength. In a life full of curses and death, you'd found something pure and beautiful and worth fighting for.
Toge's arms tightened around you as you drifted off to sleep, the promise ring catching the morning light. And for the first time since becoming a jujutsu sorcerer, you weren't afraid of the future.
After all, some things were worth any risk.
Even in a world of curses, love was the strongest magic of all.
