Dangerous Ideas

Reluctant Redemption


 “She left.” He replies, with a note of confusion in his voice. “About an hour ago.”

Chills run through my spine. This was not supposed to be happening. And, in all truth, I wasn’t worried about her. I was worried about me.

I literally had no other family.

I’m only fifteen.

Maybe I could be tried as an adult in a year. Or better, I could live as an outlaw. Perhaps start a forgery business, starting with my own birth certificates.

Visions spiraled through my mind, mainly those of jail and the orphanage.

Okay, looking back, it’s hard to think that my first few options were starting a life of crime. But at the time, I was in mortal danger.

Hey, hey, hey… Could she be at home?

-No-

She was waiting for her chance. I knew it in my heart for while now.

Thoughts of betrayal fill my mind as I start to side-eye the people dangerously. “I’ll leave, then.”

I swiveled around and proceeded to exit the door- when someone entered the hospital.

Tall, well-dressed, and clearly made of money; He smelt like a new car.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he had five. 

I stopped abruptly and glanced over my shoulder.

Coincidentally, an idea formed in the back of my mind.
