Chapter 0:
The Awakening of Science
One of the greatest minds in human history, Shintaro Nagao, became the first to create a true vaccine against cancer.
The next scene: a hospital ward. The cancer vaccine passes its final tests successfully. Shintaro enters the ward and approaches a child who has been cured of cancer. He smiles and extends his hand to the child, saying,
“Your life is just beginning.”
The following scene shows Dr. Shintaro at the Nobel Prize award ceremony. The hall is filled with politicians, scientists, and major business figures. The host begins introducing Dr. Shintaro:
“The greatest mind of humanity, a brilliant scientist who has given humanity great hope—Dr. Shintaro, please come to the stage.”
Shintaro walks to the center and is presented with the Nobel Prize. He is invited to give a speech.
Shintaro speaks:
“Science is not just formulas and steel. It is the heart of civilization, the living system of a nation. Science gives humanity hope. To collapse a nation, you only need to destroy its science. But science’s potential does not end here. We will save countless more lives through science—I promise you.”
The hall erupts into applause.
The next day, Shintaro comes to a desert testing site to observe the detonation of the Z-Bomb—a bomb five times more powerful than the atomic bomb. In the military control room, Japanese generals, captains, and admirals watch intently. The Z-Bomb is dropped onto the test site.
Boom!
A colossal explosion occurs. Even the rocks in the testing area turn to ash. The military leaders are in shock. The next day, footage of the test spreads worldwide, causing panic among other nations. In China, the minister decides:
“We must eliminate Dr. Shintaro immediately.”
They hire a professional assassin.
That evening, Shintaro comes home, unworried. He washes up and enters his study. The room is full of books, but in the middle stands the assassin.
“You’ve been declared a threat to other nations. They ordered your elimination. I’m sorry,” says the assassin before shooting Shintaro.
The next scene: Shintaro’s funeral. Men in suits place flowers at his grave. Everyone mourns—the greatest scientist in human history is gone.
The scene changes.
Shintaro opens his eyes. Around him are people speaking an unfamiliar language, smiling joyfully. A woman holds him in her arms while a man looks at him affectionately. Shintaro is confused:
“Where am I? Who are these people? What are they saying?”
He looks at his hands—they are tiny. He realizes he has been reborn as a baby in another world. Shintaro is in shock but quickly understands this world is too vivid to be a dream. His new father names him Morris. Shintaro feels he has been given a second chance and smiles inwardly.
Although he is a baby, his mind, intelligence, and knowledge remain intact.
The next day, Morris begins observing his surroundings. He notices this new world resembles the Middle Ages—his family cooks using a wooden stove, their house is made of wood, and they use primitive tools.
Morris discovers that magic exists in this world when his mother lights a fire with a spell. He learns his parents’ names: his mother is Elena, and his father is Carl. Even on his first day, he manages to pick up some basic words, though he cannot speak yet as he has just been born.
As time passes, Morris realizes every person in this world has magic, though at varying levels. He wonders:
“Do I have magic too?”
Years pass. At age five, Morris learns that his parents are simple farmers. His mother knows minor healing and light magic, while his father is a blacksmith who uses fire magic to heat metal and craft various items for sale.
One day, Morris asks his father if he can help in the forge. Carl refuses, saying,
“My son, you’re still too young.”
But Morris, who is no ordinary child, surprises him. Without being taught, Morris heats metal effortlessly and forges a sword.
Shocked, Carl asks,
“How do you know this? I never taught you.”
Caught off guard, Morris answers,
“I learned by watching you.”
From that day, Morris helps his father daily in the forge and spends his nights secretly studying this world.
At age six, Morris starts attending the local school. He learns that in this society, only the wealthy are allowed to study science, politics, medicine, alchemy, and magic in depth. Commoners are only taught basic reading and writing. This injustice angers Morris.
One day, while working in the forge, Morris thinks:
“If everyone in this world has magic, what magic do I have?”
He asks his mother to teach him. She explains how to gather mana in his palm and visualize a spell. Morris tries to summon fire but fails. Disheartened, he returns to the forge.
While sitting alone, Morris tries again. Suddenly, the metal tools around him start levitating. Stunned, he realizes his magic is magnetism—he can manipulate metals at will.
When he demonstrates his power to his parents, they are amazed and proud of their talented son.
Using his magic, Morris helps his father, significantly boosting their income. He also secretly begins recreating modern weapons from his previous life. His first project: an AWM sniper rifle.
Morris sketches the blueprint and uses his magic to assemble it with ease. Next, he needs gunpowder, so he sets off to the mountains to gather the necessary elements.
While returning, a giant wolf attacks him. Calmly, Morris uses his magic to hurl his sword, piercing the beast. He brings the wolf back home, shocking his parents, as such creatures are extremely dangerous and valuable.
In his secret lab, Morris creates gunpowder and completes the sniper’s ammunition.
Soon, a giant golem appears near the village, forcing knights to engage it in a desperate battle. Morris climbs a tall tree, sets up his sniper, and targets the golem’s core with precision. One shot—the golem collapses.
The knights, bewildered, wonder:
“How did it die so suddenly?”
Morris sets a goal for himself: to develop science in this world and create a society where everyone has access to knowledge. But first, he must overthrow the oppressive regime.
His next invention: a bazooka. He builds it effortlessly and uses it to annihilate a giant orc threatening the village.
Years pass. At age fifteen, Morris has created an arsenal of weapons—assault rifles, machine guns, shotguns, bazookas, and even AI-controlled attack drones. He has trained his body and honed his combat skills, allowing him to carry and use these weapons effectively. He also advanced his magic to store and summon all his gear without a bag.
Tired of secret experiments, Morris decides to leave home for a grand journey. With his parents’ reluctant blessing, he sets out.
In one village, he encounters the chief’s daughter, gravely ill. The fearful villagers had abandoned her, believing her sickness contagious. Using his knowledge, Morris saves her life. Grateful, the chief offers his daughter’s hand in marriage—a proposition that stuns the young scientist, as his only love has always been science.
Suddenly, tax collectors arrive, seizing livestock and crops. When they try to take the chief’s daughter as a slave, Morris deploys his AI drone for the first time—a jet-like machine equipped with automatic weapons and a mini-bazooka. The drone swiftly drives away the oppressors, earning Morris the villagers’ admiration.
Rumors of a mysterious savior called the “Night Phantom” begin to spread.
Later, Morris ventures into the Dark Forest, where he discovers the ruins of an ancient academy once dedicated to science.
There, he establishes his secret laboratory, using the forest’s abundant resources to create advanced technology—including a stealth B-29 Superfortress bomber that evades magical detection.
Now, Morris tests the bomber.
Scene: A remote canyon—magical knights surrounded by goblins.
Time: Night—complete darkness, the moon obscured by clouds.
The knights are exhausted, preparing for their final stand. Suddenly, a massive shadow silently soars overhead—it is Morris’s bomber.
In the cockpit, Morris whispers:
“Mission Ibis-2. Target: goblin horde. Silent night strike begins.”
Infrared panels mark the goblins’ positions. The bomber glides like a phantom, releasing bombs that rain down with deadly precision. Explosions light up the canyon; goblins scatter or perish.
The knights, stunned, watch as their enemies vanish.
“It’s not magic… It’s something else!” one gasps.
“No… it’s the Night Phantom,” says another.
The bomber disappears into the clouds as quietly as it arrived.
Back in his lab, Morris smiles at the kingdom’s news broadcasts.
“Try to find me… but science operates from the shadows,” he murmurs.
The kingdom, alarmed, dispatches spies and seekers, but none dare enter the Dark Forest.
