Chapter 0:
Lock & Key: Resonance
Swords clashing.
The taste of iron in my mouth
Gripping a sword, my opponent lunges forward.
I shake him away and send him flying with a wave of my arm, a crystal resting in my palm.
I look up to a sky of impossible colors, stars scattered like brushstrokes on a canvas beyond imagination.
And then, a moment of release.
A mesmerizing melody. A soft hum.
An enthralling otherworldly voice.
A lullaby to close your eyes to. To let it take you away to lands unknown. Roads untraveled.
Weightless. Free.
Skies painted crimson, castles made of glass. Humans turned pale from the miracle of magic. A flooded, forgotten yet alive, city. A forest made of steel, its leaves a mass of blades. Huge winged creatures, soaring through the clouds, like gigantic airships, ready to devour yet another civilisation.
People, creatures from all walks of life. Friends and foes. Heroes and villains alike.
And finally, an ornate lock. A gate, and a key.
A beautiful young girl, smiling. Tears staining her painted, flushed cheeks.
A pair of different coloured eyes. A face so delicate. A gaze so strong.
She reaches out a hand, the humming turning to words.
A song so vibrant, so alive, I could almost reach out and grab the outline of the melodies suspended across the void.
A click, the tapping of a clock.
The closing of a door. Only to be opened again.
I’m thrust into the air. Falling from nothingness, straight into yet another void.
Something has taken shape.
Something has begun.
The flow of time, like sand in an hourglass overturned, is slowly spinning into motion. The gears of time had left their resting place, and began moving again, ever so slowly.
The adventure had begun… that was the feeling I got.
