Chapter 2:
Summit Of Stars: Journey To The Top Of Another World
1
“Finally... the trip I had been waiting for.” Her desire that she had held back for so long would finally come true in a few days.
“Father, how long will it take us to reach the top of the northern mountain?” Wolly asked her father a question with an innocent expression on her face.
“Normally, the journey will take seven days. But we will do it in three days. So prepare your strength. I am sure you can do it.” With a smile, Edward replied to Wolly's question. Edward believed in his daughter, who had trained this far.
“Your father can reach the top of the northern mountain in just one day,” in a soft voice, Margaret spoke to Wolly.
“Sorry, I didn't hear what you said.” Edward heard Margaret talking, but he didn't listen to her words at all.
“It's nothing. Let's go now.” The three of them began their journey to reach the peak of the northern mountain.
The journey began heading north. Wolly, who had never left her neighborhood, felt excited about the journey. Following the path made by Edward, they crossed a small river with a bridge made of sturdy stone.
In Wolly's mind, Edward seemed to be the one who made it all. Wolly felt that Edward was a weird person, but on the other hand, he was a responsible man. A father who was responsible for his family and his area. The road that the three of them took was the main road connecting several villages in the northern mountainous area. They lived in a house very far from other villages. For some reason, Edward and Margaret chose to live in a remote place.
Wolly inhaled the air around her. The smell of soil mixed with water indicated that it had rained in that place. The ground looked muddy, making the journey feel a little like using a horse cart. Luckily, the three of them traveled on foot. They walked beside a small river that flowed quite fast. The river flowed south, where the center of civilization of the southern continent was located. The northern area is known as a quiet area because there are few villages in the northern area. Moreover, the weather in the northern area is quite cold, which makes it difficult to survive. The number of wild animals is also greater than in other areas. But if you choose tranquility, the northern area is the right choice.
After walking along the small river, they saw a horse cart in the distance. The closer they got, the more visible it was that the horse cart was stuck in a puddle of mud. Seeing this, Edward quickened his steps towards the horse cart.
Without saying a word, Edward pushed the horse cart from behind without the horse cart driver's knowledge. Easily, the horse cart that was previously stuck in a puddle of mud was able to run normally again.
“Ah, Edward, thank you very much," an old-looking man said to Edward. It seemed like the old man knew Edward.
“Ah, that's not a problem,” Edward replied to the old man's words.
“Do you want to go somewhere? Come on, ride my horse cart.” The old man kindly gave the three of them a ride. Edward accepted the old man's offer. He felt it would be bad to refuse the old man's invitation.
The three of them finally got on the horse-drawn cart driven by the old man. Their journey would at least cut time and save energy.
“Hello, old man Juju, long time no see.” With a soft voice, Margaret greeted the old man.
“Ah, Margaret, how are you? umm... hello to you too Wolly.” The old man answered with a smile, and he seemed to recognize Wolly.
In her mind, Wolly looked confused because the old man recognized her even though she had no memory of ever meeting the old man.
“Wolly, this is old man Juju, his wife was the one who helped Mother give birth to you.” Margaret introduced the old man, whose name was Old Man Juju.
Wolly bowed her body and greeted old man Juju. Old man Juju has a white mustache and beard indicates that he has lived long enough. His clothes were simple, with a long shirt covered with a jacket made of woolen thread, and he also wore a hat made of woolen thread. Clothes that are very suitable for mountainous areas.
Wolly, who was observing the contents of Old Juju's horse cart, saw several wooden boxes containing vegetable waste lying on the floor of the cart. It seemed like there was no luggage that Old Juju brought back. Old man Juju walked with his horse-drawn cart towards his village, where he had previously traveled to another village to sell some crops.
“Where do you guys want to go?” said old man Juju.
“The three of us will go to the top of the northern mountain. Wolly has been looking forward to this trip for a long time." With a sense of pride as a father who will make his daughter's wish come true, Edward answered a question from old man Juju.
“Oh, interesting. But you have to be careful. There is news that in the northern mountain area, more and more wild animals are roaming around. Not only wolves but black bears are also seen in groups.” Old Man Juju was a little surprised to hear Edward's answer with his hand on his chin, and hearing those words made Old Man Juju remember and give information to Edward about wild animals roaming around.
“Thank you very much for the information, old man Juju. Don't worry, I can handle it, and it seems like now is the season for wild animals to hunt before hibernation,” Edward. thanked Old Man Juju for providing important information and Edw,ard didn't seem afraid at all after hearing the information.
After listening to the conversation, Wolly wondered whether she would see other animals that were shaped abnormally to her or whether some animals also looked like animals that existed in Wolly's previous life. At the same time, Wolly felt that at this time her courage was greater than her fear.
After a while riding together, old man Juju separated from the three of them at a crossroads. The west direction is where old man Juju's village is located, and the distance is close to the crossroads. Meanwhile, the three of them immediately continued their journey towards the north on foot. The air felt increasingly cold as they headed north.
2
The three of them continued their journey after parting ways with old man Juju at a crossroads. They continued walking towards the north. Realizing that the temperature was getting colder, Edward ordered Margaret and Wolly to wear their thick clothes. Each of them wore a jacket made of animal fur. They were still walking on the main road connecting the northern mountainous region.
Wolly, in her thick clothes, looks like a ball of fur. But she felt very comfortable wearing those thick clothes in this cold air. The more they went, the quieter their journey became. They can only hear the sound of nature, which is so calm. Gusts of wind hit the trees, birds flew happily,y and small animals such as rabbits and squirrels ran here and there.
Light snow fell slowly from the sky towards the ground. The calm snowdrops made the surrounding scenery feel very calm. A thin mist also slowly began to fall and covered part of the path they were walking on.
They arrived at a very wide grassland, and there weren't many trees around. There was only grass and blooming flowers. The time of day is marked by the sun being directly above their heads, but the weather in that place is quite cold and cool. The sun was only slightly visible because it was covered by quite thick fog on the surface of the sky.
They still had to walk north, but something caught Edward's attention from the west. From a distance, they can see a dim yellow light covered by fog that is not too thick. The more they pay attention, the light is not just one but several lights begin to be seen. But what caught Edward's attention was not that, but several wild animals that were seen grouping around the light.
“Margaret," Edward looked at Margaret, giving a signal. Realizing what was happening, Margaret nodded her head, and immediately Edward put down his belongings and ran quickly to his position, holding his sword and ready to fight.
Several groups of wild animals were seen surrounding a group of horse carts that were seen in the west. Several people in the group were seen holding weapons in a defensive position. Spears, swords, and axes were the weapons they used. But the number of their weapon users was small and,y were outnumbered by the wild animals. A pack of black bears was on the north side and a pack of wolves was on the south side of the group.
"Stay close to me, okay." Margaret put down the things she brought and protected them with ice magic that surrounded the belongings. After that, she followed Edward with Wolly.
Some people are trying to defend against the attack of wild animals. They are increasingly cornered because, besides protecting themselves, they also have to protect the people on the horse cart. While they are holding back the group of wild animals, Edward suddenly darts quickly and draws his sword towards the black bear. The black bear is three times the size of the bear in Wolly's previous life. With two horns on its head, one of the black bears attacks Edward. But Edward quickly breaks the attack and cuts the black bear into two parts.
Seeing Edward split the black bear into two pieces easily relieved the group of people. Their facial expressions indicated that they had been trying desperately to hold back the attack of the herd of wild animals, but now they looked calmer.
“Margaret! Wolly! Please help on the north side," Edward said in a loud voice. He wanted Margaret and Wolly to overcome the group of wild animals on the north side while Edward was fighting the black bear on the south side of the horse cart group.
This is Wolly's first fight for real with a real enemy. Even though she is three years old, her mind is that of someone who has lived to be 38. So it could be said that currently, she has the soul of a forty-year-old. Therefore, she was able to prepare herself mentally for her first fight, even though there was still a little fear in her because, before in her life, she had never fought against any danger at all.
The heat melted the thin snow that was flying around. The hot wind shot out quickly, accompanied by a ball of dark fire. The fireball hit several groups of wolves at once. At the same time, a sharp sword pierced the body of one of the wolves and split the wolf's body. For the first time, Wolly managed to land an attack on one of the wolves, but because of her small body, she still couldn't hold the sword well, so from the left side, she could see one of the other wolves attacking her quickly. At the same time, the wind with cold air shot quickly, carrying chunks of ice that pierced the wolf's body that had attacked Wolly earlier.
Margaret's ice magic attack succeeded in saving Wolly from the wolf's attack. After that, Margaret defeated the entire wolf group with a combination of her ice magic and fire magic. At the same time, Edward also managed to defeat the entire group of black bears. Without the slightest injury, the two of them defeated the entire group of wild animals. Like there is no burden, and after fighting, they don't feel tired or lose energy.
Seeing her parents fighting seriously made Wolly think that her parents were very strong and felt that her parents had not brought out the best abilities in their fight with this group of wild animals.
3
A group of people was seen gathering closer to each other. They felt very relieved because they were safe from danger. Some of the people who had been holding weapons and protecting the people in the horse cart could now feel relieved, and some of them were lying down exhausted.
A small number suffered bruises but were immediately treated by colleagues. After seeing the group of people, Wolly was fixated on two boys and a girl figure. The boy looked a little mature, but still looked ten years old, while the girl looked like a five-year-old child.
They were in the line of defense earlier. An assumption flashed in Wolly's mind that it seemed like this world was quite harsh for children. Wolly, with a look that couldn't bear to feel sorry for them, hoped that they could live a more decent life.
One of the people from the group slowly walked closer to Edward. Then he bowed as a sign of thanks to Edward for saving their group. From this group of people, there were many women, children, and the elderly. The number of adult men can be counted on the fingers of one hand. By looking at the entire group, Edward, Margaret, and Wolly wondered who they were. What's more, they all used quite a lot of horse-drawn carts. The horse carts were seen carrying quite a lot of loads, ranging from people to other goods.
“That's enough... please raise your head. We just happened to be passing by. so there's no need to overdo it like that.” Seeing them continually bowing in thanks made Edward feel uncomfortable, and he immediately asked them to stop.
Can you explain what's going on here? Why are there so many people? Curiously, Edward asked the group of people questions because Edward felt it was strange that so many people were traveling in this mountainous area.
“We are refugees from the central continent. Currently, there is a civil war going on ther,e and we were forced to flee to avoid the war. On avera,ge our groups consist of women, children, and the elderly. But we didn't know where to go after arriving here. Our main goal is just to avoid war," an old man with a mustache and beard covering half his face, from the group of people, explained why they were in this mountainous area.
“My name is Edward. If you don't have a place, you can stay on my land.” Hearing their story made Edward feel like he wanted to help them, as did Margaret's feelings.
“Ah... are you serious?! We are very grateful… Sorry, I haven't introduced myself before. My name is John Edina. As the leader of this refugee group, I am very grateful.” John and the refugees felt very grateful for the kindness given by Edward. Their faces looked happy and relieved. Whereas previously their faces were like a group of people who were about to go to death.
Hearing John's full name made Edward and Margaret look at each other while Wolly, who didn't know anything, just kept quiet, watching the two of them talk to John and the refugees.
“Okay, since my family and I still have to travel, you can go to my land first. You can ask for help from Old Man Juju. Just follow this road until the intersection, then turn right to the west. Not far from there is a village where Old Man Juju is. You can explain what happened here. Old Man Juju will help you go to my land. We will meet again in a few days. So we can talk in detail there.” Edward draws a route on the ground using wooden sticks and explains his offer for the refugees to stay on his land.
After a while, the group of refugees began to travel to the village where old man Juju was before finally heading to where Edward's land was. Edward, Margaret, and Wolly, at the same time, continued their journey to the top of the northern mountain.
4
After separating from the group of refugees, Edward, Margaret, and Wolly continued their journey to the top of the northern mountain. The path gradually faded after passing through a large grassland. The road was increasingly uphill, and the air temperature was getting colder. The wind was blowing from the north, and the snow was falling more and more.
A few moments later, the sun set and made the view dark. Margaret released her small fire magic from her index finger as a light. Meanwhile, Edward prepared a tent for them to rest. Wolly took the initiative to collect some twigs around her. This was Wolly's first time camping in this world, but in her previous life, she had done this many times and instinctively helped her parents.
That night, they had a full rest before continuing their journey to the top of the northern mountain the next morning.
Wolly woke up from her sleep. She opened the tent and saw the entire ground covered in white snow. It seemed like it had snowed a lot last night. Outside the tent, Edward and Margaret were preparing breakfast before they continued their journey. Wolly looked around the tent and fell silent after looking north. In the north, the peak of the northern mountain was visible, the top of which was covered in very white and clean snow. Seeing the peak made Wolly feel a little nostalgic. The peak was like the peak of Everest that she knew in her previous life.
“I didn't think that I had really died and come back to life here and that I could still climb the mountain again after my death.” Wolly, looking at her two tiny hands, still couldn't believe that she was currently living her second life and could still climb mountains again.
After breakfast, they continued their journey. The air was getting colder, and the wind was getting stronger, but it didn't stop them. They continued walking until there were no more trees around them.
Not according to expectations, it turned out that they could arrive at the top of the northern mountain faster thanks to Margaret's magic. After breakfast, Margaret used strengthening magic on herself, Edward, and Wolly. Her magic can make the user and the person affected by the magic twice as strong. Therefore, their strength also doubled, and they easily climbed the uphill path until they reached the top of the northern mountain.
The peak of the northern mountain was already in sight. They continued their journey after finishing their lunch. The path to the peak was getting steeper, and the pile of snow was getting thicker. However, Margaret used her fire magic to melt the snow blocking their path. They could easily reach the peak of the northern mountain without any obstacles.
5
“It's like when I was at the top of Mount Everest.” Wolly, for the first time, managed to reach the top of the north mountain. She felt happy, and her longing to climb mountains was cured. But she felt a little dissatisfied. She realized why climbing the north peak was so easy. She felt that this climb was not too challenging.
She thought so because she saw her parents seemed to have no difficulty at all in climbing the peak of the northern mountain. She also thought that because of the strength of her parents, this climb felt very easy. But she noticed that the entire climbing path from her home to the peak did not seem that difficult to pass. The difficulty they faced was only helping refugees from wild animal attacks. Other than that, there were no other difficulties they faced.
The thick fog that had covered the area around the northern mountain peak is now starting to disappear. The view is very beautiful to the south of the northern mountain peak. You can see very dense forests and a very long river. In contrast to the view to the north. All you can see is the sea covered by fog. But slowly, the fog also starts to disappear. After the fog completely disappears, the view to the north from the northern mountain peak is very clear.
"What is that? Is that real?" Wolly kept looking to the north with many questions in her mind. Meanwhile, her feelings felt like they were boiling. The desire that had previously been extinguished was now burning again. She couldn't express it with words. All she could do was stare silently at the north.
"What you see is Mount Jeevan. The largest and highest mountain in the world. The land there is the central continent. Where the largest empire in the world is located. The Edinburgh Empire. I brought you here so you can see it." Edward spoke right next to Wolly with both his hands holding his waist.
Looks very clear from a distance. A very large and high mountain. Because of its height, only half of it is visible. The top is covered in very thick clouds. At the bottom of the mountain, a very large land is visible. The land consists of mountains and hills. After a while, the view of Mount Jeevan seemed to fade because the fog reappeared. Wolly, who still couldn't believe it was still looking north until the view was no longer visible and covered in very thick fog.
“Dad, can I go there?” Wolly asked Edward while pointing her finger towards the north.
“You can, but when you are fifteen years old,” Edward answered Wolly's question with a smile, holding the top of Wolly's head with his hand while stroking it.
“Don't worry, Mom and Dad will accompany you to prepare and practice until you are fifteen years old.” Margaret held Wolly's hands while comforting her because she looked gloomy when she heard Edward's answer.
Fifteen years old. I am currently three years old. So I have to wait for twelve years. That is quite a long time, but I have to be patient and hold back this desire for a little longer. I also don't know what the conditions are like on the mountain or the journey there, and I am still very unfamiliar with this world. I have to prepare this very carefully. Just wait, I will do it.”
Wolly, with her mature mind, tries to be patient to achieve her goal. In her mind, she considers this one of the reasons why she was given the opportunity to climb again. She must be patient and plan it very carefully because she will not waste this opportunity.
Once they successfully reached the top of the northern mountain, the three of them decided to rest near the peak while enjoying the natural beauty around them. They spent the night before finally making their way back to their home. They couldn't stay too long because refugees were waiting for them at home, and Edward would keep his promise.
