The Beginning Where It All Started

I am Kurosawa Renji , a high school boy that hides behind a mask every day . I consider myself an unpleasing person to look at so I hide behind my mask. Why you might ask? Well that story goes all the way to the start of my middle school days . I was a shy boy starting 5th grade , blooming with excitement to meet my new classmates as I switched schools because I moved from Kyoto to Tokyo . As I entered the classroom with shivers down my spine I noticed my new classmates , they were quite shocked to see me . One of my new girl classmates asked me :
Are you a new transfer student? I shyly answered her question with : 
Yes , I am glad to meet you.
The new classmate that asked me if I am a new transfer student in my middle school days is also my only friend till this day , we somehow were lucky enough to attend the same high school and I am happy that happened. Her name Is Sato Rin . Back to my middle school days Rin answers me.
I am glad to meet you too ! If you don't mind me asking what is your name ? 
My name is Kurosawa Renji , I hope we can be friends from now on .
That is such a pretty name, Renji , I too hope we can be friends from now on , lets start now on shall we? 
When I heard her words I felt a heavy feeling on my heart , nobody has told me I have a pretty name besides my relatives , I doubted she actually meant it but it still had a heavy toll on my heart . But from that moment on I decided that I will be her friend. 
I struggled to give a response as I felt that heavy toll on my heart but I barely muttered the words: 
Thank you ! 
Right when I muttered those words the bell rang , class was starting and I had to introduce myself to my new classmates . I was quite shy about doing it at first but my new teacher encouraged me to do it , not just my teacher but Rin told me Good luck.
As the teacher brought me in front of the class I started to Introduce myself with confidence because of Rin and my teacher.
My classmates all clapped and told me :
I hope we can have a good time together during our time together ! 
I responded with a wide smile and said : 
Me too !
After that I sat down with a smile on my face , I have never smiled this much before.
When I finished class Rin approached me and we started talking , she asked me several questions like : From where did I transfer , why did I transfer , do I have any brothers or sisters .
I was pretty shocked after being showered with questions but I gladly answered all her questions. But that is when everything started falling apart . 
There was this boy called Haruki , he had always liked Rin but could never tell her . He is pretty popular and always surrounded by girls . But when he saw me so close with Rin he felt nothing but jealousy. After Rin left because she had some problems to deal with (Undone homework) , Haruki approached me and said why don't we have a little talk to get to know each other ? My simple minded young self thought he only wanted me to talk with him so that we can be friends. But I was wrong . Haruki whispered to me :
Stay away from Rin , she is mine and mine only.
After he said that the bell rang and it was time for my second class. When class started I was certain he liked Rin and probably wanted me to back off but I wanted to make it clear to him , I am only a friend to Rin , nothing more.
As class ended I went up to Haruki and told him I don't think of Rin as a love interest .
Haruki answered me and said:
Like I am going to believe that lie , every boy in this class likes Rin , I am not going to let you snatch her away from me just because you only came to this school today .
I told you , I don't like Rin , I only think of her as a friend !
Haruki grabs me by my shirt and tries going for a hit but he stops , Rin heard everything we said and screamed at Haruki to stop.
Rin grabbed Haruki and started talking to him , I heard everything.
Rin said in a mad tone :
What do you think you are doing , this is his first day at the school and you are trying to bully him because you like me ?
No ! Not at all I just...
You just what ? Wanted to make his first experience at this school terrible because you like me ? Just so you know I don't even like you back , you are a terrible person who always takes advantage of other girls because of your good appearance , but that is not what I look after in someone. Go find someone else !
After hearing her words I felt relieved but I also felt bad for Haruki , he had just gotten rejected but after all , it was his fault.
After Rin's words Haruki was crushed , filled by defeat , he ran away to the bathroom to cry as tears were already forming after hearing Rin's rejection.
Rin came to talk to me and told me to not worry about him as she will handle him from now on.
Or at least that is what I thought was going to happen.
After that day Haruki started telling all the girls that were close to him that I look ugly.
The girls doing everything for Haruki's attention said you are so right Haruki ! (Mind you there are over 20 girls around Haruki every break , that's how popular he is )
But for the girls that little attention wasn't enough , they wanted even more attention and praise from Haruki.
So they started telling every kid in all classes that I look like an ogre and that even Haruki said so. Of course they told the kids Haruki said so too because their opinion alone isn't convincing for other people but when they hear someone handsome like Haruki has the same opinion they change their minds. 
Every day that I would come to school people would gossip saying : 
Look it's the ogre kid 
Yeah he is so ugly , Haruki is so much better , I don't even know why Rin talks with him .
After hearing that almost everyday my confidence dropped at an all time low. I started wearing a mask at school just so people couldn't see my face . At first Rin asked me why I was hiding my face but I tried avoiding her.
She felt that something was off and she said that she cant comfort me if I wont tell her anything.
Knowing that Rin only showed me kindness before I decided to give in and tell her why I was wearing a mask .
Rin was outraged , she started saying that I am good looking and that they are just dumb. 
That boosted my confidence a little but not enough to drop the idea of wearing a mask.
That is how I started wearing a mask every day. Rin hasn't seen my face ever since that day.
