Chapter 3:
Our Perfect Isekai World is Spoiled by a Demon Girl?!
Time sure does fly, as they say, especially when a literal demon forces you to train rigorously day in and out… Before long, even I start to feel lulled into our new routine. Honestly, it's not as ‘demonic’ as one might imagine; it's kind of like school, but minus callous teachers and mocking classmates. Lila is bizarrely patient and attentive, altering the things we train in with care and individuality. Why she would want to do so is still a mystery to me, but things could definitely be worse. Not that I’m at all happy about it all, mind you!
After a while, though, all three of us decided there are some things even slaves deserve! Basic human rights, things no one must be denied, no matter how indentured!
"Please let us watch anime!"
"Huh -_-" Lila gives us the strangest of looks, floating above us as we three shoot her pleading gazes like starving orphans in a third-rate play.
"If we wait any longer, we'll never catch up with the seasonals," Ko chimes in, Eshu bops her head in vigorous tandem.
"I'm not sure I understand what you mean exactly," our demon lady replies, looking a little overwhelmed by our desperation. It's just after she lets us stop training for the day, the perfect time for a relaxing treat.
After some explaining - quite a bit, actually - Lila surprisingly relents to our request. She adds a projector scene and a big cosy couch to one of the fort's many empty rooms (using our player currency, of course...). It rather resembles an artist's opinion piece, with modern items set against oppressive, thick stone walls. Not that we care about that right now, it's finally time!
With a bit of coaching, we show her how to navigate the system into the media player, and before we know it, the latest episode of ‘In Another World With My Fire Hydrant’ is rolling. Escape may be a one-way ticket into an alternative reality, but it's still connected to every Earth streaming site. Who would possibly sign up if there weren't shows to watch? I could almost cry, nearly two weeks without a single episode of anime just isn't right!
We snuggle up on the couch in our more casual post-training clothes. Eshu has this rather 'bold' tank top and short-shorts combo that she always seems oblivious to the promiscuity of. While Ko goes for at least a proper t-shirt, although it's a bit tight around her bust. Honestly, neither of them has a clothes sense that your average dad would approve of, but maybe that just shows how comfortable they are in my presence?
To my surprise and initial unease, Lila doesn't just leave us to it, sitting down with us too. The next twenty-five minutes are a whole lot of the mighty grand-demon 'oh' and 'ah!' -ing at the events of the TV show. If we had any lingering suspicion that she could be some sort of hacker playing a long-con cringe roleplay, they're promptly dispelled - no one could act that amazed and enthralled by a show like this, bar someone who'd never seen TV before. Near the end, she even begins to tear up. I suppose I can cut her some slack there; in a bit of a twist, this episode gives one of the isekai protagonists’ decorative companions a focus, their tragic backstory revolving around being secretly of a non-human race, and their fears around not fitting in with the rest of the cast. A standard, if effective, moral about people not feeling like they fit in over some perceived difference or other. If the show had a larger budget, it might have been something special.
If Lila’s first-ever episode of anime had to be from a generic isekai, I’m glad it was at least a decent episode.
I guess that means she really is, what, an event-NPC? An event over the course of multiple weeks, with no quest logs and the players enslaved to a tyrant? That seems harder to buy with every passing day… But then, what's become of us?
Boing Boing!
Oh hell, the auto-play would put that on next.
Boing Boing Boing!
I feel my cheeks flush as I try to cover my face with my hands, sinking into the folds of the couch.
'Extreme Girl’s Hockey - The Animation!' is this season's most raunchy show, featuring jiggle physics on a seismic scale. I peek from behind my hands to see an utterly shocked demon girl. She's leaning forward, jaw agape. Slowly, she raises one small hand and points at the honey blonde on screen with boobs so big there is no real cup size to compare them to; "W-w-what manner of monster is that?"
Like a broken doll, the elf-eared demon turns to look at us each in turn. Ko has also reddened a bit. She and Eshu are bisexual, as you might have gathered. The two were together before meeting me. That's good in the sense - I know for a fact they also watch shows like this - I'm not sure I could bear all three of them reacting like Lila. But for Ko, it means the same position as me; how to explain extreme ecchi anime?
Eshu is a different case entirely, laughing like a kid, she's the sort to find this kind of show amusing more than anything.
"D-do boobs come in that size?" Lila stutters, and a little bit more of my soul shrivels away, "Wouldn't they get terrible back pains?"
Absently, Lila's hands go to her own markedly more humble assets. I mean, limbs aside, she is pretty short, so really, proportionality speaking, I don't think she should be that worried about? ...Ya, I'm not saying that out loud.
As though my mind's been read, a cold glare settles on me, "Human men like that?"
"Ah, er, well."
"Not just men!" Eshu's cheerful voice chirps. Lila and I both turn werrily to the coiled bundle of laughter.
"Even human girls? D-don't you have more dignity?"
Eshu grins a smile that gives our demon a run for the prize of most evil. "Big ones, little ones, they're all good, V!" and yes, she actually does a silly anime V-sign pose. "But the best of all," she continues, leaning forward and lowering her voice to be almost predatory.
"E-Eshu?" Ko squeaks, beginning to blush. And then the magenta-haired wonder pouches on her target, "The best are always Kooooooooooooooo's!"
"Kwah!!"
"Hoh!!!" Lila adds, watching the crime unfold intently.
Man, all I wanted to do was watch some anime in peace...
