Chapter 1:
Malerion : Hollow Malevolence
Many times in my life, I wondered if there truly was a god on this planet. People keep preaching about how compassionate he is and how he will save us all. Yet, this world is always at war, and all we see on the news is people starving and suffering. So in a world that has never known peace, could we really have been created by a peaceful god?
"Hey, it's past 8. Do you plan on working all night or what?"
I turned around and saw Eda, a colleague in the office I'm working in. Oh yeah, that's true; I'm at work.
"Lost in your thoughts once again? You're lucky I don't snitch on you to the manager."
It's true that I'm not paid to think about whether or not there are gods in this world.
"Your greatness shall never be forgotten; I will name my firstborn after you as thanks."
"Your stupidity really is unmatched. Go, I have to close the place."
I get up, pack my things, and leave the office. The night was still young, and we could hear people laughing at the different bars in the streets of Paris. Eda invited me for a drink, but I was tired, so I headed home. I could have taken the bus, but since the weather was nice, I took a walk.
While walking, my foot knocked into something. Looking at it, it was some kind of stone, a shiny, purple one. On a closer look, it was a necklace.
Looks pricey. Well, it doesn't belong to anybody now; it can't hurt to take it.
After looking around to make sure nobody was watching me, I bent over to grab it. The necklace was very basic. A silver chain with a purple stone attached to it. It was a discrete but mesmerizing jewel. It felt like the stone was emitting some kind of light, so I took a closer look. The closer I looked, the brighter it became.
Then dark. Nothing but darkness surrounded me. No noise, no light, no feeling, just emptiness. I couldn't even talk; it felt like I was suffocating.
"How did you manage to put your hands on that?"
It was coming from behind. A bone-chilling voice amidst the silence. I may not believe in God, but I knew what was behind me wasn't human. For the first time in my life, I felt an indescribable fear.
Before I could even turn around to face whatever spoke to me, an unknown force pulled me out of the darkness.
And from dark, I saw gray. A gray sky and grass too; it was tickling.
I realized I was lying down, sweating, my heart racing. When I regained my senses, I got up and looked around.
"Please tell me I'm dreaming."
