Chapter 8:

8. When Elfs Sing

Changing My Life with A Level System

Bao heard an angelic voice that sang a gentle yet vigorous song that slowly entered deep in his body, spreading warmth through the soft touch of every tune. Energy started to flow back into his body and allowed him to regain control over his whole body. A light tingle on the face, as if someone would tickle him with a feather, caused him to promptly open his eyes, staring right in the face of an elf. Her long shiny hair brushed over his face again as she waved with her head in harmony with the melody of her voice without noticing that he had already regained his consciousness. Mesmerized by her beauty and the bright green aura surrounding her, he remained silent and stared at her face. The dark red lips were in contrast with her pale skin and while her eyes were closed shut, the thin eyebrows pointed right towards her nose.

"Sigh finally finished" She opened her eyes after finishing the song.

"Oh I see you have awoken, how are you feeling?"

"My head hurts like hell... Where am I, what happened"

"You collapsed after getting a serious injury by a goblin and since night was near and everyone was exhausted from the fight we decided to set up camp."

"Now I remember... a carriage got attacked and I helped."

His eyes shifted away from her's, only now did he notice that what he thought a fine room was nothing but a simple tent and what seemed to be a pillow was nothing less than her very own lap. In split seconds he found himself standing in front of her while his face turned from white into a light reddish.

"I... I'm sorry for th...e inconvenience I caused you" he stuttered

"You have done no such thing, I would even go as far as to say that you did the exact opposite and helped us out by risking your life."

"A simple peasant such as myself is not worthy of such praise."

He made sure that both of their eyes didn't meet by looking at the tip of his toes because one thing was clear to Bao, she was no ordinary elf.

"How can you say such things about yourself, aren't you a living being such as everyone else?" Her soft voice had now a light angry tone to it.

"Excuse me madam, we prepared a place for the boy to sleep as you requested." A voice from outside the tent interrupted them.

"That won't be necessary anymore, he'll stay in my tent."

"I object against that decision madam! We are responsible for your safety and we don't know any..."

"There are no buts! I won't allow that our saviour is treated in such manner and since he still didn't fully recover he is also my patient and will be treated as such."

"I... I understand, sorry madam." The sound of clanking metal slowly became quieter as the knight walked away.

Bao felt her stares without even needing to look up.

"You don't have any complaints about that, do you?"

"Act... Sigh No I don't have any."

"Now then, who exactly are you? "

"My name's David and I am nothing but a simple farmer's third son madam."

"And how come that a simple farmers son finds himself in the middle of the forest with no provisions or whatsoever?"

"The truth is that I got kicked out by my family madam. With little I had I wanted to try my luck as an adventurer."

"You don't seem like the muscular, adventurer type of guy, rather like I'm wondering how you could even kill a goblin on your own with such frail body."

"I don't know madam. Maybe my strength derived from wanting to help those in need?"

"As much as I would want to think about that being the case, I think the real reason is something completely different. I'll guarantee you that your secret can be safely placed in my hands, I won't tell it to anybody."

"Sorry madam but I... I can't follow you."

"You are a player aren't you?"
