Chapter 2:
There Is No Way I Can Beat Him! Unless I'm As Strong As Him.
“I’m glad the food here is the same as in my old world,” Rin said as he and Alice sat in a restaurant, cutting into their meals. “A good beef steak always hits the spot.”
“Right?” Alice grinned. “The chef here is amazing!”
“By the way…” Rin lowered his voice. “Is there a way to broadcast to the whole village that I’m not evil?”
“Why?”
“Because everyone’s glaring at me like I’ll snap my fingers and murder them all.”
“Let’s theorize.” Alice tapped his chin. “Do you have an ability to suppress your mana?”
“Now it’s ‘mana’ instead of ‘aura’?”
“Same thing. But if you do, it’ll help. And if people still suspect you, you could hide your abilities entirely. Just make sure to level both skills up.”
“Will you spawn enough goblins for me to grind?”
“Nope. But we do have a monster breeding farm. Plenty of targets for points.”
“That’s useful. Do you have a limit for summoning?”
“Yes. I can mass produce goblins and some other monsters, but it burns a hole through my mana.”
“I see…”
As they continued to eat, a cold blade could be felt at Rin’s neck. It was a claymore. Rin froze in fear, not even moving a single muscle.
“Rin, you won’t fool me.” The guy said. “I hope you’ve enjoyed your new life here, because it is time for you to die.”
“I’m sorry.” Rin said. “But I am not evil. I even had a whole speech, I don’t mind telling it again.”
“I had a group that once died by a sob story, so no matter what you say, it won’t fool me.”
“What should I do then?”
“Duel me! I am going to kill you!”
“This sucks…”
“Come to the monster breeding farm. I am going to kill you there, alongside other monsters. I need some points anyways for some upgrades.”
“May I finish my steak first?”
“No!”
“Awn…”
Rin pouted like a child. He didn’t want to fight, but he also can’t cause any problems here at the restaurant. So, he took the whole piece of steak, shoved it into his mouth and followed the guy alongside Alice.
“So, what is this monster breeding place?” Rin asked Alice.
“It is a place where we summon and breed monsters like goblins, orcs, living plants, etc.” Alice said. “We then gather experience points by killing them. We can gain points to upgrade our abilities in hope to one day defeat the monster with every ability. It is also a common PvP area for people to do friendly matches.”
“I see…” Rin nodded. “But isn’t that cruel?”
“What do you mean?”
“I know that monsters are evil and cruel and stuff, but isn’t it cruel to just kill a living being right after coming to this world?”
“I guess you’re right. But what does it change with humans back on earth? We breed cows, sheep’s, pigs and so on just to kill them for their meat. It is just a cycle we have to repeat for our survival.”
“Well, that makes sense.”
After a little more walking, the three of them arrived. It was a big grass field. A lot of monsters roamed throughout the area. There was some damage and holes on and in the grass indicating previous fights that happened here.
The guy then faced towards Rin and unsheathed his blade. “Are you ready to die?” He said. Alice handed Rin a sword and stepped to the side. A message popped out.
You have equipped “Dull Blade”
“A dull blade?!” Rin asked.
“Don’t get angry at me.” Alice said. “Just like the beginning of any RPG, you start off with a dull blade and have to face a powerful beginner boss fight.”
“Well, that’s no good.” Rin said, then facing back to the guy. But he was gone. “Huh?” Suddenly, a hard kick could be felt from behind. Rin was too late to react, so he got flung across the field.
It was so powerful, that he hit a dwarf and killed it.
You have killed a dwarf
You have gotten 25 points
Rin stood up groaning and looked over to the guy. He was dashing at high speed. There is no time to waste.
“Invest 20 points in defense and 10 points in fireball.”
Your defense has reached level 2!
Your skill “fireball” has reached level 2!
Rin then raised his hand and shot multiple flame balls at the guy. He dodged each one and reached Rin. He swung his blade, but Rin dodged it. Rin also attempted a swing, but the guy blocked it with his arm. The blade cracked.
Rin then jumped to the back as the guy tried to swing once again. Rin dodged, but he attacked again. Rin managed to parry the sword, but then, his blade shattered.
Your Dull Blade has been broken
Rin raised his fist and struck the guy in the face. The enemy got angry, grabbed Rin by the collar and threw him into the ground. The guy jumped up in the air and punched Rin in the stomach pushing him harder into the ground.
You have 15 Hp left
“Well, that sucks.” Rin muttered. “I wonder what my max Hp was. There is no way I am still supposed to be alive.”
The guy raised his fists again, ready to strike Rin, but then he shot a fireball. The guy got distracted and Rin jumped out of the hole. Rin tried to shoot another fireball, but it was too late. The guy hit Rin with the flat side of his blade, throwing him in the air.
Suddenly, he remembered something. (“He can come back from the death.”) It was when that goddess was explaining the abilities of the corrupted hero. Rin had a plan.
But before he could act. The guy was above Rin. He hit him again with the flat side of the sword. Rin flew into the ground next to Alice. Rin grinned.
“Haah~ According to plan.” Rin said.
“Rin, are you okay?” Alice asked worried.
“How many goblins can you summon in one go?” Rin then asks.
“A-About twenty. Why?”
“Summon all of them.”
“But-”
“Do it!”
Alice then proceeded to summon 20 goblins. The guy was already dashing forward. But this time, Rin was two steps ahead. He used his fireball ability and killed all the goblins all at once.
A dark gray cloud spread through the area. The guy didn’t stop, he pushed forward into the cloud. But then he sensed something. He dodges quickly, a broken sword coming in vision. It scratched his cheek a little making it bleed.
He paid no mind and stabbed Rin in the heart. He then used some ability to clear all the smoke.
“It is over Rin. You lost.” The guy said, then pulled the blade out. Blood gushed out of the wound.
Rin fell to the ground, where more blood flooded out creating a pool on the grass. The guy sheathed his sword and started to walk away. But then…
“Oh well, seems like my plan worked.” Rin said standing up.
The guy turned around looking shocked at Rin.
“H-How did you…?”
“Ah, I have come back from the dead. Cool, right?” Rin then said with a grin on his face. “The corrupted hero has all abilities. That includes the ability to return from death. I had Alice summon some goblins for me to gain some points and upgrade my returning from death ability. This means as long as I can keep coming back, I can keep slightly damaging you and eventually kill you.”
“T-There is no way.” The guy then stepped back unsheathing his blade. “You can’t be…”
“Don’t worry.” Rin said. “Like I said, I am a good guy. And I am going to save everyone from the corrupted hero.”
“I don’t believe you!” He shouted pointing the blade at me.
“Then don’t.” Rin said. “There is no reason for us to fight anymore. So, let’s stop here and part ways, okay?”
“F-Fine.” The guy said sheathing his blade again. “But… promise me that you won’t turn evil.”
“I promise on the goddess that send me here.”
The guy then nodded and left the field. “Alright Alice, let’s grind some points. I’ve got more abilities to upgrade.”
“Hold on. I have mana exhaustion.” Alice said.
“Oh… sorry about earlier.”
“It’s fine.”
