Chapter 7:
The Perfect Older Daughter Who Can Never Get Her Parents’ Recognition Is Reborn into Another World
Paulus is walking home, his hands on his head, his eyes closed, and a smile on his face. He is daydreaming about his wife and family.
When I got home, happy as always to be received by my family, no one was at the door. That’s weird, Paul and Cato always run to the door.
“Hello, everyone? What’s going on?”
“Paul, something happened to Cato. She is sick, but I don’t know why.” She was worried about our daughter and was on the verge of tears. “She was fine this morning. She ate like always at noon, but then. It’s my fault, I should be paying more attention to the kids.”
“Hey, do not worry, you have plenty on your hands, I should have moved us closer to the city a long time ago. This is my fault, too. Is she getting worse? Should we take her to a doctor?”
“It looks like she is feeling better. She still has a fever, but it looks like she is resting now.”
“I will take her to a doctor tomorrow morning. Everything will be fine. She is your child. And there is no one as strong as you are.” I smiled at her and we kissed and hugged.
…
It seems I was sick for a week. I feel so weak, I can’t even sit. Dad took me to the doctor, but the doctor did not know what had happened. He gave dad some medicine, and he recommended cold towels on my head and armpit, and to start giving me chicken soup.
What happened? I used fire magic, but then everything was spiraling, and I don’t remember anything after that. Did I use all my magic? That has to be the reason. Mom and Dad look worried. It looks like Dad is working half days now. I’m milking my mom like there’s no tomorrow. I can’t stop myself. It’s probably my body asking for energy. I’m an idiot. I should know better. I have to be careful, I could kill myself by using too much magic. I can’t think of what could happen to Mom and Dad if I die.
That week, Mom started to give me of her cooking. I’m eating so much that neither of my parents could understand what was going on. I’m still using magic, but more frequently, albeit in small periods. My body feels normal, but I am eating five times more than I was used to.
…
It has been three years since I reincarnated in this world, and we are moving to another city. Looks like Dad found a better job in another town, so we’re going to travel for four days northwest. We are moving closer to the capital, where the academy of magic is. Dad and Mom want to get ready for when the time comes for us to go to school. Paulus will be the first one to go to the academy, but he still has four more years before entering school. I can now say some words to communicate with Mom and Dad, but I’m still trying to act like a baby. But I believe they know something is wrong with me. Mom is especially cautious with me.
We pack everything in two carts. One of them is filled with Dad’s tools and materials to work, and the other one with our things. Now that I’ve seen Dad's tools, I’m pretty confident he is a blacksmith. That explains why Dad has massive muscles and comes home dirty and sweaty. Mom hired three adventurers for protection. It seems they know each other well. Before sunrise, we will be heading out.
“All right, everyone, we are ready to depart. Thank you for coming along. Let’s go.” Mom said. Everyone seems to be in high spirits. This will be my first time out of the house for so long. Before, I could only check the windows, or Mom would carry me in her arms outside. Since we live in a rural area, there is usually no one around. I’m excited to learn more about this new world.
“Anto, long time no see. You have taken the job of protecting your family seriously. When are you coming back to us? We are still in need of an offensive member.”
“You know I can’t. The rural area could be dangerous. We never know when a monster could appear. I cannot leave Paul alone with the kids.”
“But I heard you are moving to a nice sector in Dale where soldiers do rounds to check that monsters stay away from the city.”
“That’s what people from Dale told Paul. We will see. Hopefully, I can go back to adventuring at least a bit. I don’t want to lose my touch.” Antonina grinned.
“Eh? You are a mad dog out there. I hope being a mother changes you a bit for the better.”
“Oh. Do you want to see if motherhood has changed me? Let’s have a duel.” Mom stared down at Fabia, and the atmosphere was getting intense.
“Come on, Anto, you are scaring the kids. You can’t duel at the start of our travel. Saved that for later.” Said Dad.
The adventurers coming with us are two humans, and is that a furry creature? There are cat people in this world! I knew people who liked Japanese cartoons and comics in my old world, where they would feature a fantasy world with different races, but this is the real thing! This cat woman was pretty. The three of them were skinny, like Mom. The cat lady had cat ears and a tail! Because of her clothes, I couldn't see which parts of her body were covered with hair. I need to get closer. These are questions that need to be answered!
Dad was carrying me in his arms, so every time we got closer to Fabia, I would extend my arms and make sounds to be held by her. I must touch the cat woman. However, everyone was busy preparing to leave and taking their positions. During our journey, we will only stop to eat and sleep.
