Chapter 5:
Finding my Heaven: A Short Story
3:56 am
Old habits die hard, truly. I didn’t even get that far while reading! I started to read but got so comfortable that I fell asleep.
I get up and open my home computer.

Nice, so 1 of 3 have gone through. I have a few hours to spare, let me get some meditation and yoga in today.
6:51 am
I’ll take a deep warm water bath and head to work on time I guess.
7:48 am
What should I wear today? Hmmm.. Oh! These suits I had customized but never wore! I’ll go with the yellow suit! My favorite color. Have I ever worn yellow to the office before? Hmm.. Oh well!
8:34 am
I see Flora, swiveling her head around looking for me. I couldn’t text her that I was coming in a little later because I broke my phone at the restaurant last night.. Can’t tell her that, I’ll order me another when I get to my office.
Good morning, Flora! I brought you coffee!
Flora looks up at me and her eyes widened
“Ms. Olina!? You’re in yellow?! You’re wearing a brightly yellow suit! Did you customize it? It really screams YOU—- Scratch all that. Hold on. The email you sent me. What was that all about? I mean, I read the whole thing 3x since I’ve clocked in an hour ago but wha.. I mean, you look great! But is everything okay?”
Yes, everything is fine. I just wanted to share my secret with someone and I chose you. Oh, I have another request for you actually. Lets go upstairs, I’ll answer any question you may have.
We head up in my elevator.
One foot out, second foot out.
*GASPS*
*whispers*
“She is in YELLOW”
“What the hell does that mean”
“WAIT. SHES SMILING?!”
“Guys, I think todays going to be a great day?”
Good morning everyone! Remember what I said yesterday! Don’t forget to live your life! Let’s have a great day today!
“Yes ma’am!”
“Good morning Ms. Olina!”
“You look amazing!”
“Work it, Ms. Olina!”
Flora and I make it back to my office. I stop at her desk and write on her To-Do requests list:
1) Forward the email I sent you last night to Mr. Denoux.
2) Order lunch for every employee working on the 5 floors under my direct command. Including you and I.
“Ms. Olina, you want me to send THAT email?! To our CEO?! What’s going on with you? Talk to me!”
Flora, please do what I ask you to do, we will have time to talk. When you’ve finished just meet me in my office.
“Yes, ma’am”
8:52 am
“Okay I ordered your favorite food for your 540 employees including you and I. Now tell please me what’s happening because I feel like you’re either going to tell me you have a deadly disease, you had a one- night stand with Mr. Denoux or you are quitting and leaving the company that you love and care for so much because you’ve fallen in love with a foreigner and they told you to choose between your job and them—-“
Flora. Breathe please. Have a seat, let’s talk and …..no more romance novels before work!
Flora sits and behind her comes Nick, flys open my office doors.
“Olina! Wha— What was that email I receiv——”
Great, now that you’re both here, let’s all have a seat.
Flora stands up quickly
“Greetings Mr. Denoux, I was following Ms. Olinas orders. You must be confus—”
Well to be fair, had I know about Nick sooner I would have sent the email to the both of you at the same time.
“Known about Mr. Denoux..? Ms. Olina, what do you mean?”
“Olina is my little sister who was taken from us when we were both young and I only recently confirmed our siblingship through blood results from the company blood drive we did last year.”
*Flora places both her hands on her mouth in complete shock*
“That.. That makes so much sense! You guys are literally the female and male version of each other. Oh. My. Goodness! My apologies for the comment I made earlier about you and Mr. Deno—-“
Alright, Flora thank you. No need to bring it up. EVER.
“Yes, ma’am” as she plops back into her seat.
I need you both to follow my requests to a T and respect my wishes. At the blood drive last year, I was told to see a doctor because my blood seemed abnormal. So 3 months ago at my doctors appointment, it was discovered that I had advanced stage 4, heart cancer. I was told the deadline to request heart surgery would be on the date of my 25th birthday and because of my failure to remember, I am no longer eligible, as I am too far gone. From what I’ve calculated I only have about 3-4 months left to live.
*Complete silence*
*Anger and tears filled their eyes… And mine*
I continue to talk as nonchalantly as I can.
The email I sent to you both instructs what must be done once I am gone and I have just sent over to the both of you, my signed will and important documents and evidence that you may need once I’ve passed.
Nick, I will be sending you my resignation letter. I decided that I want to move to the countryside and live my remaining months of life in silence with my nose in my books. I will have a live-in nurse so there’s no need to worry.
I am finally free from this life - I said while falling to my knees with a smile on my face.
They both had lots of questions and Flora cried in-between my answers, it’s such a relief to be able to get this off my chest finally.
“…so that’s what you meant when you said, it was too late for you. I’m here for you, as long as you let me. Whatever you need, I just need you to understand that I’m going to call our parents right now an——”
Nick stop. You are only going to cause your parents more pain when they learn of this.
“Well. We can’t say anything’s for sure until we get you looked at by the best doctors in the world. Will you allow this of me? As your older brother of barely two days, just let me be the worried older brother that I can be! PLEASE!”
I have enough money to buy a business from scratch and rebuild it, I’m sure I could have flown to the wherever the best doctor in the world may be but I didn’t have a reason to want to live longer.. Until now. I look up to the man and woman that I have grown close with over the last few years and I can’t help but smile.
*Intercom beeps: “Vice President Olina? We have a guest here claiming to be your older brother? Said he came to drop off your phone. Is it alright to send him up?”
I look up at Nick and Flora, they’re gone. Of all the times that useless idiot could have found my workplace and show up. It would be after the two people closest to me received and read my detailed email I sent last night, of my childhood.
No need to send him up, I’ll be right down.
