Chapter 4:

An Anomaly

Hoffen: Life in Another World Without End

As expected, most people were disappointed by what they got from the affinity test. In this world, being someone of high ranking in the society plays a role in their magical capabilities—especially if you’re of Royal Status.

But an anomaly arose, where a commoner, was able to get an affinity, akin to that of a high noble—Like Arvan, or someone from the Royal Family, particularly carrying the name, “Lunaria.”

His name is of course, Luciel Caelun. Despite commoners usually being discriminated against, Luciel was the opposite. You don’t want to be enemies with someone strong after all.

Despite being a commoner like Luciel, Lilith faced no discrimination—her elegance and beauty were far too refined for someone of her status. Already being dubbed as the “Untouchable Beauty of the Academy,” since she usually hangs around Luciel.

As they wait for the next test, being the Combat Test, where this will determine their class depending on their strength. With that being said, of course commoners will be grouped with commoners, and nobles and royals will be grouped with each other

Tension filled the air, each tick of the clock tower echoing louder than the last, amplifying the anxiety that gripped the crowd. Yet Luciel and his companions remained still, seemingly unfazed and prepared for what lies ahead.

Then, the bell tolled.

Vectus stepped forward onto the platform once more, the force of his presence sending gusts of wind rippling through the silence.

“Good job new students of Eledale for being able to learn about your affinities.” he said with conviction, “Right now, you will proceed to your entrance exam to this wonderful academy—Eledale Academy.”

Everyone roared, though nervous, they pushed through their anxiousness, knowing that there’s no real threat for this exam.

Vectus, then continued, “The Combat Test will be modified slightly. Considering the influx of new students, everyone will fight in a simulated battlefield.”

And then, the roars from earlier turned into silence, as there is an actual threat included in the exam.

Vectus, knowing this, confronted the matter before letting the students ask, “Of course, no one will be hurt in this exam, and even if you get hurt or die in the battlefield, you will come back alive and unscathed once the exam ends.”

Everyone sighed out of relief, but they are still anxious that they still could get hurt from this exam.

As if not taking into account their feelings, Vectus then continued once more. “To note, only seventy-five students will pass in this exam. So good luck, and have fun.” he ended, and told them that it will start in fifteen minutes.

The crowd cowered in fear, knowing that only a few of them could pass. Knowing this information, they then formed groups so they would have a better chance of surviving. As usual, Luciel, Lilith, Cedric, Anneliese, and Arvan formed a group with each other.

“No fighting against each other, okay?” Anneliese panned between Cedric and Arvan, like a mother scolding her children.

“Okay…” the two answered unanimously

Just then, a certain someone in a dark-green hood wandered among the masses, marking each one with a spell. He goes in unnoticed, smirking as he walked around the field of students.

And then, in one fell swoop—All students are teleported to the battlefield.
