Chapter 7:

Chapter 7 - EXP History and EXP Growth Rate

Irregular Hero: Spirit Tamer Doesn't Want to Lose (異常勇者シリーズ: 精霊テイマーは失いたくない)

After telling each other about ourselves, we are now discussing what to do from now on.

“Shindou-kun… I want to remember everything as soon as possible. Is there really no other way to earn EXP besides killing monsters?”

Yeah, knowing so little of yourself was so irritating too for me. She’s at that phase now.

“I feel the same way, but there are so many things I don’t know yet. We want our memories back, we have to get a lot of EXP. Still, killing all those slimes won’t give us much EXP… you know what that means?”

“... other monsters…”

She got it. It means she will have to deal with cutting the flesh and blood splatters.

“I can carry your level for now, but eventually you will have to face the situation we’re in. In order to get home, we have to do it.”

The thought of it makes her hand tremble so hard she lets her knife slip out of her grip.

Just like how I kinda get the concept of RPGs, there might be a reason why she’s overly scared of the thought.

Even though my dog Lucky died for me, I killed those monsters…

Is it because somewhere I thought I was just playing a game? Or maybe I got over it later in my life?

… I have no clue… not knowing the reason genuinely feels disgusting.

“Yumemi, I’ll try to raise my level first so that I can carry your level easily. Is that okay with you?”

“... okay…” she’s not looking at me, and seems like she didn’t really hear me.

Oh well, I don’t want to bother her. I think she needs time for herself.

“Alright…” I opened my status panel. Without counting the bonus from equipping the stone knife I made, I’m now 4 times stronger than I was level 1.

When I was focusing myself on the EXP Gauge… a notification pops out.

[EXP History] contains all the EXP you gained

“… why didn’t I look at it earlier…”

Alright, I gained only 1 EXP from defeating those slimes. No wonder.

So, I scrolled back up, and found something strange. The EXP I gain from defeating lizards decreased after I raised my level.

Does that mean in order to get EXP quick, it’s better to keep my level low?

I finally scrolled down to my first kill.

“Holly, it gave me 80 EXP!?”

Judging by the EXP rating so far, I wonder if Starwing Bats gave me the best EXP value. No wonder I almost died fighting one.

Judging by the lazy names of the other monsters, Starwing Bats are the only one having a pattern in the name. Do they count as stronger monsters?

“… checking it myself will be faster.”

And so, I headed to path A, which means I have to climb back up to reach for.

Immediately, I found a level 1 Starwing Bat hanging on the ceiling near the glowing moss area.

I tackled the Starwing Bat and pushed the stone knife into its chest, letting out a short shriek before it died.

“Wow! I got 40 EXP! That’s still bigger than all the other monsters I checked in my log!”

So it is clear now, defeating the monsters while you are still low level will give you more EXP, so it’s better to not raise my level each time I can raise it.

… I see, so it’s not just about memories, but it’s a choice.

“Seems like all this time I chose to get paid in the front and not get bonuses.”

Okay, here comes the swarm a few meters away.

With my current level, I have nothing but confidence.

A bat shoots straight at me. I dodged it but it still manages to graze my cheek.

It took a sharp turn to aim again for my head.

With my pivoting maneuver still going, I swung my knife and stabbed the head of the bat that’s coming at me.

“Nasty for you to aim for my head, so don’t hold a grudge if I do the same thing!”

Though, it died without being able to let out any shriek.

It’s crazy how easy it is for me to defeat them now!

“Alright! Come at me, my EXP fodder!”
