Chapter 2:
Magic lies carried me to the top, the summit where she is not.
We are riding on a wolf’s back, rain washes away the blood, but the scent persists, I cling to her for dear life, hoping we’ll make it back alive.
Behind us—A spider rampaging its way through the woods, so big its legs are twice my sister’s height, so destructive trees are no match for its rant.
Surreal, plainly, utterly… surreal.
Its eyes glow red, and its fangs I’m sure can tear a boulder apart.
I should’ve expected this world to be this different from my own but still… can I be blamed?
Before continuing let’s pause for a moment and explain how we got into this situation:
The heat is melting me away, I’m covered in dirt and mud, scratches all over my skin, the sun is burning our surroundings—We are hiding in a bush, waiting for a signal, and more importantly… the grin on her face suggests we are not going back anytime soon…
No… actually… let’s rewind a little bit further…
“I won’t take no as an answer!”
“Even if you say so—Waah!”
She grabbed me and jumped from the second floor’s window. The maids tried to follow us but she was way faster than them, barefoot she sprinted, carrying me like a sack of potatoes.
Turns out we live in a forest, so once she got past the fence there was no way for them to catch up…
I tried to speak some sense into her, but she was set on our “adventure” as she called it, and when we were deep into the forest she finally let go of me.
“How does it feel to be free Rey?”
“I’m not sure if this can be called freedom…”
“Don’t be silly, look where you are! This is authentic freedom! Just extend your arms and close your eyes, feel the wind! smell life itself!”
I did as she pleased but…
“I only smell dirt and trees”
“Whatever, you’ll understand it eventually. Let’s have some fun in the meantime”
We collected some ants, some beetles, I didn’t notice it at the time but... they were a bit different from my previous world’s.
I swear her smile was not big enough to showcase her excitement. I was not worthy of being the receiving end of such a smile.
Eventually she got bored of insects and decided to hunt bigger prey, that’s when the madness started.
We followed some fluffs similar to porcupines but perfectly round and with no quills whatsoever, instead fur made them look like dandelions, and reinforcing the mental image, the wind carried them around.
They floated peacefully, as if magic made them levitate, but whenever they felt us lurking, invisible they turned.
Hence why we hid in the bushes, waiting for one to pass by, close enough for her to catch.
I must admit her skills are much more than praise worthy, not even the best of spies could come close to her ability to hide her presence. Her breathing was so smooth and soft that not even I who was on her back could hear nor feel, her body was extremely relaxed and yet, when the conditions for her attack were met, in less than a second she tensed and sprung like a tiger—flying through, leaving the fluffs with no option but to be caught by her claw-like hands.
She told me these fluffs are called wind-sheeps, and that catching them is tricky despite looking defenseless at first glance. They turn invisible and lighten whenever they feel threatened so that the wind can carry them somewhere they feel safe.
She’d make a great teacher. Her passion flows through the air, and when it reaches you, there’s no way to ignore.
Yeah… she would make a great teacher if not for the fact that…
What she didn’t tell me—was that they are part of magic-wolves’ diet, and that humans who are rich in mana are also too.
So mid-explenation a wolf charged on us, tackling us down, scaring the heck out of my baby form, and making me think we were completely done for.
All until she spoke.
“Fangy! Did you miss me?” She said, while she wiggled his face with one hand.
*Arf* *Arf* a mixture of bark and howl replied.
“Of course you did! Here, have a treat!” She extended her other hand.
*Munch* *Munch* As drool, and the blood of the invisible fluff splashed all over us.
“Sister… what’s happening…?”
“Oh right… Fangy, this is Rey! Make sure to treat him well.”
*Arf*
“His growls can be scary if you’re not used to them but don’t let them fool you. He’s a nice guy.”
“Right… So… Do the others know about him…?”
“Nope- I’ll be our little secret.”
“Of course…”
*Slurp* *Slurp* he soaked me in saliva.
Ehg…
”Anyway, let’s go for a ride.”
“A ride?”
—————————————————————————————————————————
“Woooo-Hooo-Hooo-Hooooooo!!!”
So here we are…
This is our situation—We “explored” a cave, or better said, she dragged me into a cave, and ended up breaking a spider web, who would say spiders were so temperamental…
How on earth is this girl still alive?
Is everything a game for her?
You’re gonna get us killed, you dumbass!
“Grab tight! We’re taking a turn!”
Ooooaaaaahhhhh! This is too much, this is way too much! Can babies have a heart attack?
Wait… Is that a landslide?
“Watch out!”
——————————————————————————————
This lake again?
What’s so special about it?
The bubbles…
They are somewhat magical in spite of knowing what’s below…
The hand dragged me into it.
And now I sink to the bottom of my sins.
There’s corpses everywhere.
I wonder…
If in this dump there’s also mine.
Would I be able to tell?

*Huff*
*Huff*
*Huff*
“Sara…?”
“Yes…?”
“Did we…
Did we…
…
made it?”
“He… yes…!”
“Hehe…”
“Hehehe.”
“Hehehehe.”
We laughed for quite a while, astonished as what had happened, as the rain ceased, and a rainbow apeared, and then she told me:
“I wish you were my age, then we could go on even greater adventures… *sigh* why doesn’t anyone understand…?”
And then… a struck of genius…
I didn’t even think.
“What are you talking about? I’m older than you.”
“Huh?
—
Huuuhhhh???”
