Chapter 6:

To the City of Nakamura

Relic Raiders

Within the capital of Nakamura lie the leaders of the Kingdom of Taelesta. Two of them are conversing about the recent events around the nation.

A tall, handsome man in valiant armor starts the conversation. “Shen, have there been any notable events recently?”

“Nothing out of the ordinary has been reported,” answered the man called Shen. “The Dragon Generals’ whereabouts are still unknown.”

“No, not that.” The man in valiant armor complained. “The Dragon Generals are not a big enough threat for me to worry about. I want to know about any of the new adventurers I told you to scout out.”

“Right…” Shen responded with a slight annoyance. “In terms of new adventurers, there has been a new adventure that just conquered the ruins dungeon that recently appeared near Giora.”

The valiant man intrigued by Kaito’s accomplishment, analyzed, “Oh? That seems noteworthy, as that dungeon is not an easy one.”

Though before he could form a conclusion, Shen clarified. “Under normal circumstances, yes, but this adventurer was accompanied by the Lonely Queen.”

“Well, you should’ve just stated that first, Shen,” the valiant man annoyingly said to Shen. “I don’t have time for adventures that just tag along with stronger allies.”

“My apologies, Kouki,” Shen says as he concludes their conversation.

Meanwhile, Kaito is up early at the guild receiving payment for the material he and Rina got from the ruins dungeon. Knowing how the rumors have been spreading about him and Rina completing the dungeon, Kaito has been acting very cocky despite not doing much in the latter half of the dungeon.

In his acts of overconfidence, Kaito started a conversation with Elise, the guild lady.

“So, you want to head to the pub with us later to celebrate my dungeon clearance?”

Elise smiled, remained professional, and responded, “Sorry, but I have some work to do after hours.”

Kaito, giving a second go at hitting up Elise, continued. “Not to worry, we’ll be there for a while, so feel free to drop by.”

Mid-conversation, another male worker at the guild came up from behind Kaito.

“So…” the man said confidently in the same tone as Kaito just did. “Do you have some business with my girlfriend, Elise? Or did you have business with the guild receptionist, Elise?”

Understanding the message he was trying to portray, Kaito backed off from trying to impress Elise.

“Oh, I have some business with the guild.” Nervously responded. “I’m here to… to get my level checked.”

Kaito was just trying to form an excuse, so he completely forgot he was waiting for the funds for the material he had just sold.

“I thought you were selling materials,” Elise jokingly remarked.

“Oh, well, I can get my level checked while my items are being processed,” replied Kaito, barely able to get himself in the clear.

“Sounds like a plan,” said the man taking the initiative. “I’ll do the level upgrade while Elise does the paperwork for your sold items.”

As Kaito and the guild worker walked to the back room, the guild worker introduced himself.

“I’m Sid, by the way, and as long as you don’t cause us guild workers any more trouble, I’m sure we can get along.”

“Duly noted,” replied the ashamed Kaito.

Upon Sid reassessing Kaito’s level, Kaito was now level 13.

“Impressive,” Sid congratulated. “I was wondering how much you’ve improved from completing the dungeon, and it seems you got a lot of levels.”

Sid continued to explain how level reassessments also come with an optional list of the adventurers’ known skills. The reassessed adventurer can ask for a printout to see all their known skills.

Kaito agreed to receive the printout, which he received at the front desk alongside the funds for the material he sold.

Kaito read his list of skills and, at some point, learned a skill called Pinpoint. It allows the user to have perfect accuracy for one of their attacks.

“When did I learn this?” Kaito thought out loud.

As timely as ever, Rina appeared behind Kaito, responding to his thoughts. “Did you learn a new skill?” Rina concluded.

Kaito was slightly startled by Rina, but managed to keep his composure. “Oh, yeah. Some skill called Pinpoint.”

“Hmm, you probably learned it as you kept hitting specific weak points of your foes.” Rina deduced. “Y’know, hitting the wolfman in his head and all those monsters’ weak spots.”

Rina’s deduction was sound, so Kaito had no more qualms about how he got the skill.

“Are you prepared to leave for Nakamura? The carriage leaves soon.” Rina announced, ushering Kaito to finish getting ready.

Just finishing his business at the guild, Kaito was ready to leave, so the two headed off.

Kaito had one goal for the three-day trip to Nakamura. He and Rina were not as close as he wanted, so he focused on getting closer to Rina for the journey. Now that they wouldn’t have to concentrate on combat all the time, there’s no way the two couldn’t have a sensual moment.

The three days have passed, and Kaito’s endeavor to get closer to Rina was highly unsuccessful. The duo was now in the capital city of Nakamura and ready to follow the trail the dungeon ruin’s text left for them.

The capital of Nakamura was much more developed than Giora: towering buildings, cleaner streets, and residents wearing more refined clothing. With the massive capital before Kaito and Rina, finding the grand library would not be simple.

It did not help that the main streets were blocked for some sort of parade. The city was festive, with a bunch of people cheering. Kaito and Rina were able to find an opening to see the parade.

On top of a float was a play of a party of unique-looking adventurers fighting someone in a demon costume.

“They seem to be celebrating the defeat of the Demon Lord,” deduced Rina, barely able to see through the people cheering.

“The defeat of the Demon Lord, eh?” Kaito repeated, not realizing what Rina had just said. “Wait, defeat!? There’s no Demon Lord!?”

When Kaito was reincarnated in the fantasy world, he fully expected the end goal to be defeating the Demon Lord and becoming the world’s hero. Hearing that there was no Demon Lord anymore completely caught him by surprise.

“You don’t even know that?” Rina said semi-complaining about Kaito's continuous lack of knowledge. “You really need a history lesson after all.”

Getting a sense of the celebration, Rina and Kaito left the parade in search of the library. After maneuvering through the hordes of people, the two arrived at their destination, the Nakamura Grand Library.
