Chapter 4:

Chapter 4: Where’s Mimic?

I Got Transported to Another World by Tornado and I Became a Monster Caretaker

"Hello! Is anybody around here? I need some help!"

"Huh, who's there? It seems the voice belongs to a woman."

"Yeah, Mimic heard that too, but we should be careful, Risette."

"Okay, Mimic. You hide in the bushes, alright?"

"Okay, Risette. Be careful."

Mimic slipped into the bushes to hide and keep watch while I approached the location of the voice.

The woman stood outside the village, carrying what appeared to be some sort of animal in her arms.

"Hey there! I'm Risette. Can I help you?"

"Yes, please! My famili— I mean, my pet is injured. Can you help him?"

"Of course! How can I help?"

"Could you take care of my pet? I need to get medicine from my house. You see, my pet got injured because he fell from a cliff."

"Sure, I can take care of your pet."

"Really? Oh, thank you! Here."

The woman handed me what appeared to be a cat—no, maybe more like a tiger because of the weird patterns on its fur.

"Oh, thank you. You don't know what this means to me. I'm going to go now."

"Alright."

I gently patted the cat. "Hey there, girl."

The cat looked at me with a confused expression, probably wondering where her owner had gone.

"Hi, kitty cat."

The cat immediately tried to escape from my hands.

"Ah, bad kitty!"

I tried to hold it tighter, but the cat leaped from my grasp.

"Wait, kitty cat! Where are you going?"

The cat wandered around while I chased it throughout the entire village. Finally, it stopped when it found the blue slime.

"Ah, thank you, blue slime!"

The slime blocked the cat's path. Then something extraordinary happened—the cat started playing with the slime, treating it like a toy.

"Hehe, it looks cute."

Then I realized something: I had forgotten about Mimic hiding in the grass.

"Ah, I forgot about Mimic!"

Meanwhile, somewhere near the village:

"When is Risette going to come back?"

Mimic sneezed. "It's really cold here."

Then there was a whisper in the woods.

"Huh? Who's there? Is that you, Risette?"

Mimic investigated the noise when suddenly he was grabbed by a muscular man in black steel armor.

"Ha-ha! Got you, ugly creature. You belong in a dungeon now. Come with me."

"Huh? Ah! Let go of Mimic!"

As Mimic tried to escape the man's grip:

"Hehe, weak creature."

"Let go of Mimic, or I'll call my friend to attack you!"

"Friend? An ugly creature like you has friends? Unbelievable. What has the world come to?"

"Stop messing around!"

Then another man who looked slightly older emerged from the bushes.

"Before we put it in the dungeon, we should interrogate him about the witch."

"Right away, sir."

The man in black steel armor threw Mimic into a wagon.

"Whoa, another person! How did you get caught, little green guy?"

"Huh? Caught? What do you mean?"

"You see, the kingdom has started rounding up creatures like us."

"For what?"

"How can you not know? You must be living under a rock. The king is rounding up creatures because he fears we're going to rebel and create a monster kingdom under the rule of the witch."

"Witch? Oh, you must mean—"

Suddenly, a loud bang interrupted them.

"Hey! Quiet over there, or I'll knock you unconscious!"

"Okay, sure."

"For now, we'd better behave. Oh, where are my manners? My name is Argon. I'm a reptilian."

"I'm Mimic, a goblin."

Back at the farm, Risette searched around the village for Mimic.

"Mimic, where are you hiding? We aren't in any danger!"

That's odd. Where could Mimic possibly be?

I looked around in the grass and smelled burnt ash—it must belong to a recently extinguished campfire. As I got closer, I found a bone that could have belonged to a chicken and a wooden cup.

"Wait, could Mimic be... no."

I started running around when suddenly I heard chatter. I crept closer to listen better.

"Hey, do you know where they're going to take all the creatures from the forest?"

"They're taking them to the Green Iron Maw."

"That place is hidden, right?"

"Yeah, only higher ranks are allowed there. Hey, want to play dice?"

"Dice? Sure! Can't wait to take your money."

The guards proceeded to play dice on the forest ground.

Oh no! Mimic has been captured. Should I follow them? But I need to watch over the woman's pet.

I decided to go back to the village and found the cat still playing with the blue slime. The blue slime looked helpless as the cat used it as a toy.

"What should I do now?"

Then I saw smoke coming from our house.

"Oh no, the baby dragon!"

I ran to the house to find the source of the smoke—it was coming from the baby dragon.

"Whoa! Baby dragon, are you alright?"

The baby dragon giggled. It seemed like it wanted to play.

"Phew! I thought the house was going to burn down. Hehe."

I reached out to pat the baby dragon's head. The baby dragon bowed its head to allow me to pet it.

"Good boy! Alright, let's go outside. You must be bored, huh?"

I carried the baby dragon outside. I still couldn't stop thinking about Mimic. I hoped he was okay.

Meanwhile, at the Green Iron Maw:

The place was very dark, almost like it belonged to a different world, and was filled with forest creatures like lizardmen, humans with animal ears, and of course, little goblins. All the creatures transported by the wagons were put in prison cells.

"Attention, forest creatures! All of you will be questioned to see if you're working with the witch."

"Alright, now form a line!"

A lizardman tried to escape but was quickly stopped by the court magician's paralyze attack.

"Anyone who tries to escape will stay longer in a dirty cell."

"Now move!"

The head warden instructed the other wardens to keep watch and identify the captured forest creatures.

"Why do worse things always happen to Mimic?"

"Calm down, Mimic. Everything will be fine. My friend will help us."

"Your friend... could it be that witch?"

"Yeah."

Back at the village:

"I have returned! Where are you, Risette?"

"Oh, you've returned! Here's your cat—or familiar."

"Familiar? You must be joking! Hehe, that cat is my fami— I mean, friend."

"Look, since I helped you, can you help me back?"

"Hmm, I guess I can help."

"Can you help me break my friend free from the Green Iron Maw?"

"Wait, what did you just say?"

To be continued... See you on Saturday!
