Chapter 7:
Hoffen: Life in Another World Without End
Hello, Author here!
The power system may seem confusing for some, so I’ll explain it briefly.
In this world, there are 3 known affinities, namely: Archery, Magery, and Swordsmanship.
These affinities determine the area in which a person naturally excels, although they are not entirely restrictive. A person born with a Swordsmanship affinity can still learn spells or ranged combat, but they gain special perks, faster growth, and higher potential in their native domain.
Remember in Chapter 6 where Cedric used magic to track this “green-hooded” person? Yup, That’s an example of affinities being not entirely restricted—albeit spells becoming slightly unstable, leading to physical damage, as stated by Anneliese when she heard Cedric using magic.
Now let’s break down these tiers down.
First off, there are 4 tiers in each affinity. First is Basic. Basic Tier is the lowest, and is usually rare and can only be found in commoners. But there are records that are found in nobles (poor nobles), but like commoners—they are rare.
Next is Adept. Adept tier is known for their versatility, and these are known as common folk. They can use their skills in basic work like healing, construction, and other stuff. An example of this would be Luciel’s mother who is an Adept Mage, capable of healing miniscule injuries.
The following tier after Adept would be Noble! As the name suggests, this can be found usually in those who are Noble in status, or even Royals! These is where their affinities actually affect their skill in learning other skills such as using magic. Though it is unstable, they can learn it and be proficient at it—but of course not as strong as those in the same tier.
Let’s say someone who has Noble Swordsmanship learns Magic, of course they will struggle more than learning swordsmanship, but they can be proficient at it. But the strength of said magic would be only as strong as someone in the Adept Tier. But is still phenomenal once honed enough!
Ok enough of that, next would be Divine Affinity. Long story short, they are just strong.
Finally, the next tier. You thought it’s 4 huh like I told previously? Of course not! We haven’t talked about Arvan’s affinity just yet.
Holy Affinity, the rarest among all affinities. As Vectus stated in Chapter 3—you can only find someone once in 200 years. They specialize in all affinities at their highest level. Drawback would be their physical defense of course—if it wasn’t for their ridiculously large mana reserve enough to protect themselves with a barrier.
Without a barrier, they can easily be killed—even by a Basic Tier!
Now, there’s one more thing I forgot to tell. And that would be the subtiers of each tier. There are 9 sub-tiers for each raging from Level 1 to Level 9.
Level 9 Basic users could fight against someone with Level 5 Adept users. Of course they can’t be stronger than Adept users. This would be the same for all tiers.
As for learning affinities as stated earlier, if someone of Noble Swordsmanship learns magic—maximum that they can hone is only up to Adept Level 9.
Note, that levels will not increase if you don’t learn and use it all the time—So it’s best to delve into adventuring to hone these skills.
Unless you’re rich—Just buy potions. These are quite a cheat skill. Not only can they increase their level, there are some that could increase tiers. But this is a story for another time.
Anyway what to put in this bonus chapter… hmm…
I guess in a few more chapters we will tackle their school journey, and next would be their adventuring!
Hope to see you readers yet again in another bonus chapter.
As for updates for the next chapter… well… See you on the 25th I guess haha. But of course, as always, I will release around 3-4 chapters from the 25th to the 27th, so expect some peak plot twists.
Have a nice day!
