Chapter 1:
Fist of the Bancho Rider
A soft breeze waltz through the air gently caressing the blades of grass and leaf of the well-lit forest. The warm afternoon sun kissing the living beings underneath.
How long has it been since he felt this peaceful?
Like a cat in the afternoon rays, He could never resist a good nap when the warm afternoon sun came over him. He couldn’t remember the last time he had a nap this good. Especially in the wilds.
His naps were usually on the school rooftop while playing hooky... His fog riddled brain tripped over those words for some reason. Why would it though? Whats wrong with napping in the afternoon sun and absorbing the rays? As he started to ponder why something was wrong, it finally hit him... In the wilds?
Huh?
Jolting up onto the balls of his feet, Reiji quickly began surveying his surroundings.
As far as he could see, were lush green trees, wild soft grass, he could even hear the sound of wild animals like birds and insects.
Yep, I’m definitely in a forest. But how? Reiji felt incredibly lost.
The last thing he remember was the deluge of rainstorm and thunder covering the city as he was duking it out with Daigo on the rooftops.
It was the final fight, the culmination of three hard years of blood and sweat. Uniting the different gangs of the city to end all the fighting. Aiming for the number one spot so he could be bancho.
He remembers running out of gas and moving purely on willpower, delivering the final blow to Daigo with a flying knee.
Then, what?
Reiji began doing a thorough inspection of his body.
Yep, all his limbs were intact, no burns, no cuts, no damage at all. Looking at his face on his phone camera, no bruises or cuts, apart from the old scar on the right side of his face, running from above his eyebrow all the way down to his cheek.
Everything seemed to be in perfect order. Even his usual outfit of red leather jacket, black jeans, and combat boots was intact.
Sighing to himself, Reiji decided to pick a random direction and start walking. Using the Sun as a compass, trying to keep it on his right.
Maybe he’d get lucky and run into a clearing or a river that he could follow downstream.
After wandering around aimlessly for a few hours, he could only describe his situation as hopeless.
The sun had move on in the sky, turning orange, he could only barely make out the top half of the sun through the trees.
With desperation slowly setting in all Reiji could do was scream at the top of his lungs.
"DAMMIT ALL!"
Reiji was beginning to lose hope. The harder he tried, the more lost he seems to become. As he was about to punch a nearby tree in frustration, the nearby bush began rustling, causing Reiji to pause.
Moving slowly and quietly, Reiji crept up to the bush, trying to get a better view of the source. The moment, he got to the bush, the rustling immediately stopped.
From within the bush, he caught sight of a pair of bright glowing red eyes staring out at him.
Crap.
Reiji thought to himself. Quickly dodging backwards, the owner of those eyes lunged out at him, barely missing his head by a few millimeters.
Spinning on his heels, and dropping into his fighting stance, Reiji could finally see his attacker.
His attacker was a large creature with jet black fur, two long ears twitching out above its head. Its two-front dagger like teeth chitter as it round beady eyes glared at him. At the center of its head was a single deadly horn sticking out.
“What the hell kind of rabbit is this?” Reiji blurted out.
Not caring for his reaction, the horned rabbit once again lunged at Reiji, aiming to skewer Reiji with its sharp bony projection. Like an arrow let loose, it cut through the air easily.
Still in shock, Reiji could only roll to the side to avoid the living projectile coming at him.
KRAK!
The sound of the tree behind him being torn apart sent shivers down his spine. Although small, the horned rabbit had enough power in its legs to tear a chunk out of the solid tree behind him.
Realizing that the rabbit was strong enough to kill him. Reiji finally snapped back to reality focusing on his survival.
The tension in the air hung heavily as it became a life-or-death battle.
Unlike the battles he had back on earth, there was never a fight to the death. Only pride and ego were on the line. Something that could be even more important than life.
As adrenaline flooded his system, Reiji began steeling his will. Although fast, this rabbit only seems to have a single attack pattern. His senses could still keep up with it.
I’ll aim for the moment when it’s in the air Reiji thought.
“Just remember, you chose this!”
Seeing the rabbit’s leg tensed at it prepares to lunge at his head. Reiji lowered his center of gravity. The moment it lunged, he swayed to the side dodging its attack, and countering with a right uppercut.
The rabbit flew off its original trajectory. Its body smacked into another nearby tree with a loud bang, before tumbling down into the ground.
Refusing to let the chance slip by Reiji pounced on the rabbit, stomping its body.
“ORA!”
With a loud crunch that echoed in his ears, the horned rabbit lay still, never moving again.
He felt bad about killing an animal. It wasn’t the first time he’d kill an animal, but it never felt good. It didn’t give him any choice. He knew that it was either him or the rabbit.
Moving to inspect the creature, Reiji confirmed that it really was a rabbit, it looked exactly like the rabbits he was used to, except this one had a unicorn like horn and teeth like daggers.
As far as he knew, no animal like this existed on earth, much less Japan…
“Does that mean... I GOT ISEKAID?"
