Chapter 0:
Heroes Fall: Where are they? Have I been left alone?
The room was dark and silent, illuminated only by the light coming from his computer flashing.
ILuvPandas screamed "Kianic! Hit him with the ice shard!"
Kianic was the name of his character. A low level sword-mage that had gotten a lucky spell book from a chest and learned Ice Shard. An ice spell that didn't do much damage but slowed the enemy so his friends could make hit and run attacks on the hobgoblin.
He shot the spell towards the hobgoblin, instantly giving it a frost effect as the four began to beat it barehanded as they had all broken their starter weapons three goblins ago. The monster then rose up, and the group had realized their mistake in entering the dungeon as the frost effect had worn off.
ILuvPandas was the first to go as the hobgoblin swung down its club and the group began to run for their lives. Soon AitaTehHero followed ILuvPanda's fate. BigGolem soon after, and then Kianic.
They respawned one after the other in the starter city. Laughing at the thought of their group being pulverized within four seconds of the effect wearing off.
AitaTehHero laughed as he spoke, "Did you see Pandas' face before he got hit?" The group couldn't contain themselves and other players were looking at them as if they had lost their minds.
BigGolem smacked Kianic's back repeatedly as they both were kneeled on the ground wheezing.
Eventually the laughter subsided, and the party fell silent as they knew it was time to log off. It was late at night, 1:00 AM and the whole group had work in the morning. They said their goodbyes to one another, and logged off one by one. Except Kianic.
He liked to look at the sky, the natural landscape, the glistening rivers and the faintly breezing wind. It helped him accept that the day was over, that he no longer was playing with friends and that he was back to reality. Nights like this always left him a sense of melancholy. Wishing he could continue to play with them forever in this fantasy world. He knew however that his friends had dreams, aspirations and goals to look forward to. Kianic couldn't relate in that aspect, he didn't have a want for a career, nor did he know what he wanted in life.
Kianic closed his eyes, daydreaming to himself defeating the hobgoblin before quitting. As he opened them however, a strong flash of light pierced his eyes, blinding him momentarily. Kianic attempted to block it with his hands but the light was already fading by the time he lifted his arms.
It was the sun, fading as it was being blocked by clouds. But something was off. Kianic was sure that the game didn't have the tech to simulate the stinging of eyes.
As he sat up, Kianic was left even more confused. This wasn't the starting city, nor anywhere else he'd been in the game. What dumbfound him even further was the fact that he couldn't remember the game's name. In fact, he couldn't remember his own name.
