Chapter 14:

The Sacred Biblion

The Perfect Older Daughter Who Can Never Get Her Parents’ Recognition Is Reborn into Another World

I have already read the first section of the book “Introduction to Magic.” Thanks to my mom, I can read it by myself now. The chapters in the first section of the book examine how magic interacts with the body, four types of magic, the role of meditation in harnessing magic, and the fundamental defenses and attacks associated with magic.

The second section of the book has stories from the “Sacred Biblion,” which is the sacred book of stories of the deities and their servants. The second section is tough to understand. This part of the book is not like “5 Easy Steps for Incantations” or “Magic for Dummies.” There is a lot of interpreting and practice that I need to do in order to understand some of the concepts, and yet, I still don’t fully know if I’m doing it right. I’m afraid of learning things that might be wrong, and it would make things harder later. Thus, I practice the first section of the book while slowly reading the stories of the sacred Biblion.

Something that caught my attention is that there is no incantation for magic in the book. The incantation is implied in the section of poems, tales, stories, and other readings from the sacred Biblion. Look at this paragraph that tells a story and talks about fire:

“Agape and her offspring ventured forth to seek fruits within the woodlands around the mountains. When they had at length gathered a sufficient amount of fruits, they resolved to return; yet they became lost amidst the thickets. As the sun sank low, they did hear the wails of demons run amok. Agape, full of fear for her children, trembled at the shadows encroaching upon them. As the chill of the night enveloped them and the cries of the fiends drew nigh, a celestial light encircled them, offering warmth and comfort. This wondrous light guided them safely from the dark woods back to their home. In gratitude, Agape did construct an altar unto the gods and worshipped their holy name.”

This tale doesn’t mention an incantation or a method for teaching magic, but it describes a light, which I believe is fire, that provided warmth, like protection, and guidance, although I'm unsure what this could mean. Agape and her children are back home. We see that the use of fire was for protection. My mom’s incantation is the following:

“By the Gods, bring your presence before me.” This could be the light in the story. “Burning power of fire that keeps us safe and warm.” How the light protected Agape and her children. “Refine and purify our path and bring judgment upon our foes.” Attack the enemies. “Come forth and ignite from within, fire.”

The incantation like in the story, has characteristics of fire or light. In order to make the incantation, you use the characteristic of the light in the story and come up with it. However, I come across some questions: Is it possible that people have different incantations to use the same fire magic? How many spells can fire magic make? Is it possible that new spells are still being created out of this book? Under what laws does magic operate?

Because I know the incantation that Mom uses for fire, I can see in the book the characteristics of what can be done with fire magic and then translate them into the incantation to determine what fire can or cannot do. However, there are plenty of stories that I don’t fully understand, and there are plenty of characteristics or ways that maybe magic can be used, and an incantation can be created. Is it possible to have multiple interpretations of the same tale and create different kinds of magic?

I have never seen Mom use Earth magic. I know it exists and have heard people mention it, and the book also has some stories about it:

“The elders of the village did stand against Cosmo, and they devised a snare to bring humiliation upon him before the folk. When the gazes of the village were fixed upon Cosmo, and the people did prepare stones to slay him, the earth did quake and opened its maw to consume the elders who had conspired unjustly against him. Admittedly, all knew that the gods were with Cosmo.”

I have never heard an earth incantation. However, the story reveals how the gods utilize the earth to save Cosmo. The ground crumbles is a seismic movement, and it opens its mouth, somehow creating a hole or perhaps a literal mouth that devours the elders. So, with those characteristics in mind, I can make an incantation to do those things. I’m going to try to keep the same structure that my mother used for fire magic. However, I will modify the characteristics to suit what I want earth magic to do. It would be something like this:

“By the Gods, bring your presence before me, powerful energy stored in the earth that shakes mountains to bring them to my feet, rupture the stronghold, and defend us from the adversary. Bring strength upon my companion, come forth and rumble from within, seismic wave!”

Suddenly, the ground where my hand was pointing started to tremble, an area of around a yard. “I did it!” I felt how my energy was draining, so I stopped it. It’s a bad idea to practice magic first thing in the morning without eating. I somehow managed to get inside the house and grab some fruit to eat. But I’m getting the hang of it. I don’t understand what the limit of magic is.
