Chapter 36:
Song of Grace
Sara
They stared at me. Kim opened her mouth to speak, then closed it, and it was Cat who spoke first.
“Why should we visit your horse friends?”
Her reaction did not surprise me. They did not understand the significance of the Gnomes’ revelation. I let her comment pass.
“It will turn the tide of our cause.”
“How?”, Silvi asked.
They would not understand, and it would all be revealed to them as we arrived.
“We’re leaving at first light tomorrow.”
I went to stand at the edge of the camp. I guess I should be grateful for Cat. It was her bitter tongue that had sown the first seed. The Queen had to be defeated; that’s what I had set out to do. We had made mistakes as a race in the past, and my fellow Unicorns were blind to the Queen’s evils today, but this would change everything.
Almerious must know about the pact we’d made, and he might even have been present for it. He was older than most of us and would have been there when the evil tried to enter. Even so, he still chose to side with the Queen now. When the others saw his true nature, they would also see that their support of the Queen was a mistake. This was the chance I had been waiting for, the turning point that would change the direction of my cause. If I had the Unicorns behind me, it would add weight to my cause, and more would follow. One by one, the tribes would rise, and together, we would stand against the Queen.
It would be a detour, but it couldn’t be helped. This was more important than biding our time in the North. If this played out as I hoped, this would be the end of the Queen’s rule.
The next day, we packed and set out. I had to use my time wisely as we made our way there. I didn’t know what Almerious would admit to, even if he was challenged in public. But in the end, it didn’t matter. All that mattered was that my fellow Unicorns would see the truth of their decision to follow him, and the uprising would commence.
Kim, Silvi and Cat did not see what I saw, but they would soon understand. Once again, the Unicorns would live up to our name as Peace Bringers.
