Chapter 5:

Ch 5: Getting used to Rin

In this new world, I'll finally be fulfilled!

[Rin’s POV]
It's been several minutes of us not saying anything. I know that I did say I'd follow him, but I don't know what to say to him.
There's also the fact that he can speak our language.
At the time I believed him, but the more I think about the story the more it sounds weird.
…Maybe I'm overthinking this. Let me atleast ask his name.
“So… I forgot to ask before, but what's your name, human?”
He turned his head around, gazing at me. It caught me off guard for a split second.
     “Oh, It's uhm, Zen Zyle.”
That's an unfamiliar name. It doesn't sound like most humans would name their child, or atleast… that's what I heard from mother.
I wonder what he's doing in this forest or what he's thinking about.
[Zen's POV]
‘I wonder how I'm gonna use the bathroom with her here.’
‘thia entire time I've been using leaves in place of toilet paper, but would that be too rude to do for a dark Elf. Wait— what if she's royalty!?’
Eventually we arrived at my base, if you can even call it that.
     “Welcome to my home.”
There was a fire place and a makeshift tent full of sticks and a vine I saw on a random nearby tree.
She had a blank expression on her face.
In a panic began to speak.
“I’ve only been here for a day or two so it's not much, please make yourself at home.”
It didn't look like she had much to say.
‘is she shy?’
Let's not worry about that for now. Right now I'll just sit by a tree and read the magic book that God gave me.
Atleast that's what I'd like to say but she's distracting me by constantly going in a circle so it's hard to focus on reading.
Maybe I'll just ask.
     “Are you worried about something.”
Rin stopped pacing around, noticing what I said. Her face looked pale.
“Well, you see… I'm really hungry.”
Rin replied as her pale face had small blush to it like she was embarrassed.
     “Pffft.”
I tried to hide my laughter, but it seemed as if she had noticed cause she started to pout.
‘There used to be leftover food, but I ate it all last night…’
I'd look up into the sky. There might be animals at this time, it's almost dusk.
“Let's go hunting. Can you protect yourself?”
Her face looked uncertain, but she nodded her head anyways.
     “Mhm, I should be fine.”
With that being said we scurried into the forest searching for something we can use to eat.
I would like to have a few extra for the morning so we don't have to keep on going hunting.
But there's the problem of where I'm going to put it. It would be nice if I had some infinite inventory you always see in isekai manga.
‘Actually I guess I never thought about how Chi must be feeling right now.’
I just left without thinking about how she felt.
She was always there for me when everyone was gone.
I suddenly heard a whisper that came from Rin.
     “Zen, there's a deer over there…”
She pointed in a direction towards my side, I turned my head and she was right.
There was a deer nearby a flowing river.
I'm not confident that the spell I'm working on will hit. Maybe she can do something.
I whispered to her to not alert the deer.
“Do you know anything that can kill it with one shot?”
     “I think…”
She aimed her hand in the direction of the deer as ice began to form in front of her hand.
She made it sharper than what I thought, but it suddenly shot out of her hand and hit the deer with a clean shot.
     “Eak!”
The deer whimpered in pain from the shot Rin made to it, it instantly fell to the ground.
I was amazed by how skilled she was with magic, maybe I was the one who needed saving when she was getting attacked by wolves.
While we're here I better use the bottle god gave me and get some water from the river.
I didn't even have to say anything before Rin started skinning the deer.
“You're better at that than I am.”
“It's nothing special, at home I often had to get food myself.”
     “Home huh…?”
I replied with a saddened look.
“But I would rather be in this forest than there.”
It must've been rough, I can imagine how it was, but I better not ask that.
“So how did you end up in the forest?”
She froze up and stopped what she was doing, her face looked distressed.
     “Well that's—”
We noticed a few lights getting closer to us. It was getting close to night time already so that's how we were able to see them.
That and their loud conversation gave it away, they were nearby.
she whispered to me quickly as if she was frightened.
     “Hurry! Hide.”
Panicked, I hid behind a nearby tree, and she hid in the same spot but in front of me. Luckily the tree was big enough that it would hide our width.
We listened to their conversation.
“I've never seen the king so furious.”
Another guy replied with.
“Yeah, to think that princess Teal made such a blunder like that.”
So they are dark elves just like Rin.
“But why would the king care so much about the concubine's daughter? No one in the city cares about her.”
     “Beats me.”
Eventually they didn't see us and they passed right by.
We stepped out of our hiding spot.
     “What were they talking about?”
I asked Rin.
“There's a city not too far from here that resides dark elves.”
“No, it seemed like they were looking for somebody.”
Rin sighed. She looked at me very seriously.
“They were probably looking for me Zen, but I don't know why.”
“Wait, what? What do you mean you don't know why?”
I was confused, but it didn't seem like she wanted to talk about it yet.
Let me calm down for now.
“Let's talk about it once we get back.”
She nodded in agreement as we carried the deer meat back to camp.
