Chapter 23:
The Edge of Balance
Thalorian stood outside of the large building designated: Hawkwing Secondary School. So this is where he goes to school. Still I don’t trust Exerex. When we first found him in the Magic Realm he told us that he could freely visit either realm. Unbelievable.
“So you finally came!” shouted Limiria, walking up beside him. “I started to doubt if you were really coming.”
“Of course I’d come, I wouldn’t let you come here alone,” replied Thalorian. Especially not with beasts like Bigteeth on the loose.
“Anyway Exerex is waiting for us inside,” said Limiria, “he says he has a lead.”
“Good. Let us not waste time,” said Thalorian, starting to walk into the large brick monstrosity of a building.
“Look at you, sounding so noble,” said Limiria, nudging Thalorian. Of course I’m noble! We’re looking for him!
Thalorian and Limiria walked through the twisting halls of Hawkwing Secondary School, he turned into the room designated: Mr.Strumass’s Science Lab.
“This is where Exerex is?” asked Thalorian, confused. Offley small place for a meeting such as this.
“Yeah, he told me to meet him at this exact spot, I wonder where he is?” Limiria wondered aloud.
Just on que a voice chimed in, “Sorry for the wait, I’m here now, we can start,” said Exerex. Good, now I can keep an eye on him. “Just one thing before we start,” Hurry up so I can prove you’re not who you are! “My name isn’t Exerex,” Yes! Thalorian zoomed up to Exerex, his blade to his throat.
“Then what is it?” asked Thalorian, eyes narrowed.
“It- It’s Dra’lum, but you know me as Haverian,” finished Exerex, or Haverian.
“Haverian… I- I thought you were dead,” said Thalorian, his blade dropping.
“I am. When I died I was sentenced to the Dream, but I decided that I didn’t want that. We- I hurt so many people, so I worked as a poet named Dra’lum, that’s the truth, that’s why you can talk to me right now,” said Haverian.
“Haverian, it’s really you,” said Limiria, walking to Haverian.
“After I died I tried to do good in the Dream, but I couldn’t, everything was just too easy, so I became a poet,” stated Haverian.
“Why? Why would you leave paradise to work? The Haverian I knew was fantasising about relaxing on Hero’s Bay! So why, why would you trade paradise for work?” asked Thalorian.
“After we killed the Crown, I was thinking about what I could to never make someone do that again, but in the Dream I couldn’t, so I choose work to repay the debt I owe the Aternum for allowing me work but I owe you more than the Aternum ever could, so that’s why I’m helping you, that’s why I will help you find him,” said Haverian. Fair enough. But if he tries anything funny, he will die for a second time.
A loud crash sounded through the halls of Hawkwing Secondary School. Voices were heard talking amongst each other as they hastily picked up whatever fell.
“I’ll check it out,” said Thalorian, walking down the hallway. He turned into the room the sounds came from. Inside lay two figures, both had shadows for skin and blended into the walls. Mercenary leathers lined their bodies. One of them had a sword strapped to their back, the other had some sort of metal contraption holstered at their side. Shadow Spawn? But how, they only live in Dwargenshire?
“Chaga ankre huuh?” asked the seemingly male Shadow Spawn.
“What? Do you speak English?” asked Thalorian.
“Yukka hurun hazenrushudu?” said the seemingly female Shadow Spawn with the holstered contraption. “Ankre huuh neiralla?”
“Shi. Nokzx corrin shinown,” said the male Shadow Spawn.
The Shadow Spawn sprung forward and attacked Thalorian. The female Shadow Spawn fired created a loud bang with their contraption. Suddenly Thalorian’s arm was bleeding. This is like the thing those people in the bar used on me. Huh. The male Shadow Spawn jumped forward and brought his blade and attempted to cut through Thalorian. Thalorian twirled behind the male Shadow Spawn and sliced at his torso, the female quickly fired another shot of their weapon. Thalorian quickly dropped down and swept the female's legs.
“Votis,” said Thalorian, firing a bolt of lightning at the male before chopping his neck with a kick and jumping over another one of the females attacks. “Braris Elia!” yelled Thalorian, firing devastating blasts of fire from each palm. The male cut through the fire with their blade, then cut at Thalorian’s side. Is that an Anti-Magic Blade? “Tra,” said Thalorian, turning invisible, before reappearing behind the female, “Boo.” Thalorian's blade rocketted through their neck. As a Shadow Spawn they won’t die, but they’ll stay inactive for a little while.
“Crael!” yelled the male Shadow Spawn. Crael? Is that her name?
“Cravel, Shi… ruk’di,” whispered the Shadowspawn that may be known as Crael.
“Cravel is it. Don’t worry about her,” said Thalorian, sympathetically, “you’ll be joining her soon,” finished Thalorian, with malice. The Shadow Spawn known as Cravel backed up slowly, he then ran out the door only to be confronted by Limiria.
“Uh-uh,” said Limiria, with her sword to his throat.
“Let’s try this again, Cravel, you’re going to tell us why you were here,” said Limiria menacingly.
“Never!” yelled Cravel.
“Thalorian, how much time is left on the translation spell?” asked Limiria, turning her attention elsewhere.
“Ten minutes,” answered Thalorian.
“All right Cravel, you’re going to tell us why you were here or in ten minutes you won’t have anymore limbs, fair?” said Limiria.
“I’ll never–” Cravel’s arm fell to the ground, “tell you…” finished Cravel, scared. “C-Crael and I suddenly appeared here a few weeks ago and we found all this stuff and, and we got a message from our queen and suddenly felt an urge to kill people, I- I don’t… know why,” Cravel said, terrified.
“Good, good, keep going,” hissed Limiria.
“Th-that’s all I know, I swear!” pleaded Cravel.
“He’s not lying, I know it,” said Haverian.
“You’re a poet! You have to spare me! You’re not allowed to interfere in human affairs!” begged Cravel.
“I am a poet, but I don’t blindly follow the orders of the Aternum,” said Haverian, leaning down to Cravel’s level.
“You bastards!” yelled Cravel, his mood shifting. “All of you! You people should just die!” Cravel’s remaining arm and legs fell off in a bloody mess. “What… the,” said Cravel, scared.
“Who said you could talk back to us,” said Limiria menacingly.
“You-” Cravel’s head fell to the ground in a sudden surge.
“Why did you kill him?” asked Thalorian.
“I didn’t, something or someone else did and it’s near,” said Limiria.
Thalorian’s head shot up, “Graxis!” chanted Thalorian firing energy from his palm. The boards holding up the ceiling shattered and a figure dashed through the halls. “After him!” yelled Thalorian.
The trio bolted through the halls after the figure, dodging left and right avoiding the curved knives that the figure threw at them. “Crya Elia!” casted Thalorian, ice covered the ground, the figure jumped into the air sliding down the hallway ripping through the ground with two large curved blades. They jumped out the window, he threw a knife with a piece of paper down the halls, gliding down the halls. Thalorian ducked under the knife and plucked the paper off the knife and read it.
The words were scrawled quickly yet neatly. On the paper there was a picture of a boy about fifteen years old with unkept white hair with black streaks, he was wearing a navy blue sweater a white t-shirt, jeans and light blue eyes. I know this boy, he’s the one I found in the cabin. York, no that was his alias, his name… was Yoru. The words read: Your Son, My brother.
“Limiria I know where our little Yoru Hibbaku is,” said Thalorian, turning to Limiria.
