Chapter 2:

Turns out, I’m the error in the Summoning Spell

Reincarnated With My Dog and a Divine NEET: My Struggle as a Soulbound Tamer in Another World

Light.

Blinding, searing light.

Then—SLAM.

My face met marble.

“GNNNNHH—!” I groaned, my cheek grinding into the polished stone floor as stars exploded behind my eyelids.

Not a great start to a second life.

Groaning, I pushed myself up on shaky arms. My palms were scraped. My vision blurred from the impact. I blinked a few times and felt a tiny, warm movement in my hoodie.

“…Luffy?”

The little Shih Tzu stirred and poked his head out, yawning like he’d just woken from a nap instead of reincarnating from death.

I gave a breathless laugh. “Guess we made it, huh?”

A loud THUMP echoed beside me.

“MY DIVINE SPINE,” Lyssaria wheezed, sprawled on the floor like a dropped laundry bag. Her hoodie was half over her face, her legs flopped awkwardly in opposite directions.

“You okay Neet?” I asked, not because I cared, but because she was now my divine debt partner or whatever.

“I’m being punished by literal God. What do you think?” she mumbled into the floor.

“Well, you landed like a sack of expired ramen. So that tracks.”

“Watch it, gym rat.”

“Still more coordinated than you, NEET-sama.”

She groaned again.

I finally got a good look at our surroundings—and instantly forgot my soreness.

We were in a cathedral-sized hall. Obsidian pillars towered upward. Golden banners shimmered above. Stained-glass windows told epic tales of heroes and monsters. A red carpet led to a high dais lined with nobles, priests, and knights in ornate armor.

And in front of them—stood four other people our age.

A girl with long lavender hair holding a radiant staff, she looked like the heroine straight out of a Fantasy Role playing game.

A cocky blond guy spinning an ornate spear, I can just tell he was the type to worship his own reflection in the mirror.

A bespectacled boy clutching a glowing book, he seemed pretty quiet and uninterested, he was definitely giving off a “Mysterious Main character” Vibe.

And a musclehead with a flaming broadsword the size of a canoe.

The actual summoned heroes.

Everyone was staring at us.

I straightened awkwardly. Lyssaria was still lying on the ground groaning.

“…Who are they?” one priest asked.

“That one wasn’t part of the summoning,” muttered another, pointing at Lyssa. “Is she a… deity?”

Lyssa sat up and lazily waved. “Hi. I’m Lyssaria. Divine integration layer. Supplemental support unit. Definitely not late.”

“You weren’t part of the ritual,” the lavender-haired girl said, raising her staff. We performed a ritual asking the gods to send us a hero that would help us in defeating the Lord of the underworld and his army.

“Neither was the guy with the dog,Although he’s got some muscles, I can respect that aspect of him,” added the jock hero.

My gut tightened. I could already feel the “you don’t belong here” vibes radiating off them like heat lamps.

The Head Priest stepped forward holding a glowing scroll. “Let us determine your divine alignment.”

He pressed a glowing sigil against my chest.

A translucent interface lit up above me.

[Class: Soulbound Tamer]

Level: 1

MP: 4

Strength: 3

Magic: 0

Beast Affinity: D-

Summoned Familiar: Shih Tzu – Name: Luffin

Familiar Stats: STR 1 | MP 0 | Passive Skill: Fluffiness | Bonded

Silence.

The spear guy tried not to laugh. “A Shih Tzu? You can’t be serious right now? The Gods must be playing a Joke on us”

“Beast Affinity D-minus?” the mage scoffed. “Is that even allowed?”

“Did someone accidentally summon a pet owner instead of a hero?Priest he doesn’t seem like a bad guy but after the ritual we were expecting someone with a lot more potential than this. We are fighting to save this country. ” the muscle guy muttered.

“Hey!” I started.

Then Luffy—sorry, Luffin—barked proudly from my hoodie.

A few of the nobles chuckled softly.

The priest cleared his throat. “This may be an error. My apologies to you noble heroes. I thought I performed the ritual perfectly but it seems I was mistaken”

“I KNEW IT,” said a portly noble. “They summoned a defective!”

“No offense,” said another. “But your class is useless. That familiar has no magical aptitude.”

“Why waste resources on him?” a knight asked. “The other heroes are clearly superior.”

I clenched my fists. My breath caught in my throat.

Just like that, I was trash again.

Worlds apart—and still disposable.

Lyssa stood beside me and tried to speak. “Now hold on—Soulbound Tamer is rare. Technically classified as extinct—”

“Erased from the Grand Codex,” the priest cut her off. “For being emotionally volatile and unreliable in combat. Please leave this place immediately, We have no use for you. The king of the underground is rapidly advancing as we speak”

“…So me,” I muttered.

“Recommend he be sent to a frontier village,” another added. “Minimal cost. Let him tend livestock or patrol slimes.”

“He’s not useless, You know for first impressions you people are really rude! Just who do you think you are” Lyssa said, but even she sounded unsure.

They didn’t see the look on Luffin’s face.

The loyal way he stared at me like I was still worth something.

But all the others did was scoff and whisper.

Another hero mimicked a dog yapping.

I looked at Lyssaria. “It’s fine, let's go. Who cares what they think, I didn’t arrive here to help some stuck up heroes, I came to start a new life.”

“But they're mistaken, And just who do they think they are anyways!” she protested.

“…Thanks. But it’s fine We should leave now, look at how they’re staring at us. As if we’re trash”

“Hey. You died with a dog in a car. Let’s not act like you peaked, But even so we’re not trash like they think.”

“I died saving him, you lazy excuse of a goddess. Thank you for defending me. Let’s just get out of here”

A guard stepped forward. “You will be escorted out shortly. No weapons. No stipend. No divine gifts.”

“…Wow,” I breathed. “Even in another world, I’m not good enough.”

Luffin barked sharply, pawing at my chest.

I looked down at him… and smiled.

“…Screw this. You stupid heroes can deal with whatever army is attacking yourselves. I never asked to be sent here in the first place and let alone be a part of a stuck up group of spoiled heroes. I have no part in whatever is happening with any of you.”

I turned around and walked away—ignoring the stares, the whispers, the laughter.

“One day you'll regret tossing me away again,” I muttered.

Lyssaria Followed after me Yelling

“Hey what Now? I guess when the chief sent us here, he decided you were going to be one of the heroes, you’re just gonna leave like that?”

“Lyssaria, Pay attention to how they’re staring at us. They’re looking at us as if we’re lower than dirt. I don’t care what your chief summoned me here for. In my old life it was basically a living hell that I was able to get through because I had Luffy. I’m not going to let this life become that too. Screw being a chosen hero. I’ll walk my own path, you can either join me or stay with them.”

“ It's not like I have a choice Ren. Regardless I have to stick with you to acquire my Devine points and get back to my video games and goddess duties. Plus I would rather figure it out with some lowly Gym Rat than be surrounded by a bunch of Stuck up heroes.”

“Why do I feel as if you’re only goal is to get back to your video games, I truly think you couldn’t care less about your goddess duties”

“HEYY, I’ll have you know that I care just as much about my Goddess duties as I do about my video games”

“It’s nice to see you have your priorities straight, You dumb NEET Goddess, Regardless thanks for sticking with me”

“Don’t mention it idiot! Let’s get out of this place and figure out what we’ll do next”

“Are you two done? If so please leave immediately” A knight yelled

“Yeah, yeah we’re leaving now. You can kiss my Divine feet for all I care! Let’s go Ren!”

And just like that—

The so-called hero who wasn’t supposed to be here

walked out of the Great Hall…

with a divine NEET and a Shih Tzu by his side
