Chapter 7:

Onmyou 7: Transfer Students

The Strongest Sage, Reincarnated as an Onmyouji

The next day, right before I entered the classroom, I felt something about to attack me. As I open the door, I immediately dodge to the right, and Kaki comes running out from the room and hits the wall.

“You bastard!”

“What did I do now?” I don’t remember doing anything to anger Kaki, since we didn’t see each other after class.

“Almost everyone in school saw it!”

“Saw what?”

“You enter the car together with a girl!”

!! That’s right… she was waiting for me outside the school, so it makes sense for people to see us together.

“That just means I got more rizz than you.” I taunted.

“Gah! You bastard!”

Even though I didn’t know that so many people noticed us, it felt good to make fun of Kaki.

“Unlike someone, girls gave me a chance.”

“UGH! Stop… it!”

“For someone who keeps bragging, he couldn’t even get a girl’s number.”

“Guo!”

“I think that’s enough, Mahiro.”

“Oh right, did you tell him what happened yesterday, Akaki?”

“Eh, I don’t think we should, especially now…”

“Oi, Akaki, what did you not tell me!?”

“Nothing, don’t worry about it.”

“Akaki got confessed to by the captain of the female basketball team, and they are now dating.”

“Oi, Mahiro! Are you trying to kill Kaki!?”

“......What did I do wrong in life?”

“Haha, serves you right, Kaki.”

“You don’t have to overkill him, you know… there’s a reason why I’m not telling Kaki about it.”

“Yeah, but he’ll know sooner or later anyway, might as well just tell him now.”

As Kaki, who is now lying on the floor at the front of the class, as if he were a corpse at the scene of a crime, a girl who I’ve never seen before entered the class.

The moment Kaki took a look at the girl, the energy he lost suddenly returned to him as he immediately went to talk to the girl.

“Oh! What’s your name?”

“...Teach, may I request not to sit next to him?”

“EH!?”

“Erm, sure.”

As our homeroom teacher, Satou-sensei entered the room, he handed a chalk to the girl and had her write down her name.

“Good morning, class. I'm glad to see all of you, except for Kaki, so lively this early in the morning. Today, we have a new transfer student.”

“I’m Inoue Hibiki, pleased to meet everyone.”

She must be one of the transfer students that Hyoka mentioned. That means she’s an exorcist.

Actually, where is Hyoka? She said she’s going to transfer into this school as well. So I was expecting her to be in the same class as me. Maybe she and I are in different years.

“Since you don’t want to sit next to Kaki, how about one of the girls? There’s a sit free next to Hina.”

As Hibiki walked past me, a slip of paper in the shape of a human cam flew to my table.

‘Come to Nakayama Cafe after school.’

…Why do I have a feeling that Hyoka was the one who asked her to pass this message to me… Wait, if it’s her, why doesn’t she just message me?

I’ll just ask her later.

‘DING DONG’

“Mahiro, let’s go otherwise, we won’t be able to find a seat at the cafeteria.”

“We’re going to ignore Kaki, right?” I asked, as Kaki is still sulking from what happened in the morning.

“He’ll be fine. He doesn’t have to eat.”

As we headed out to the corridor, one of our classmate, Urui, came and asked if we had heard about the rumours.

“What rumours?” Akaki replied to him in confusion

“You didn’t hear? Today, we’ve got about 5 transfer students, including Inoue-san.”

“And?”

“One of the transfer student was a student from the prestige Hoshimei high school!”

Yeah, I already know that detail, but Akaki, who didn’t, was shocked when he heard the news.

Obviously, with those stupid ears of his, Kaki heard our conversation and immediately recovered and rushed towards the cafeteria

“It’s my time to shine!!” Kaki shouted as he ran through the hallway.

“Yeah, he’s going to die single and a virgin.”

“Come on now, Mahiro, that’s an insult to those who choose to stay single and a virgin.”

“Jeez, it’s crowded here.”

“Yeah, people properly wanted to take a look at the Hoshimei Student.”

I just want to get my lunch and eat in peace, but I guess it’s going to be difficult to even buy bread.

“I’ll go buy us lunch, you go find a seat for us.”

“Ait.” As Akaki bravely through the large crowd, a familiar voice called out to me from behind

“Myoujin.”

“Oh, Ichirou.”

“Please don’t use my given name. We’re not that close.”

“Eh? Hyoka let me call her Hyoka though.”

“I’m not as friendly as Lady Hyoka.”

“Yeah, yeah. What is that you want?”

“You received the letter from Inoue, right?”

“Yeah.” I said as I took out the human-shaped paper.

“Don’t be late. The other onmyoji in the school will be gathered there. Including you, there’s 9 of us.”

“......Eh? Me? Onmyouji?”

“Are you not? Lady Hyoka said that you’re our last resort, but you still have to join in the meeting to know the other members.”

Just what the heck did she tell them!? Wait, didn’t we sign a contract that she won’t tell others about me!?

“If you’re thinking about the contract, you should always read the small, tiny fine print that’s not visible to the naked eye.”

“...That bitch!” I was careless!

“So, what did she write in that small fine print?”

“The contract will only take effect if I reveal what was said in the conversation that is deemed important not to be revealed. Thus, all I have to do is twist my words a little.” Hyoka walked towards me and explained to me with her usual monotonous tone as a bunch of people were gathering behind her.

“Oi, you heard what she said?”

“Nope.”

“Who is that guy? Why does she act so familiar with him?”

The people behind her started to gossip about the relationship between the two of us.

It’ll be a pain if we stay here any longer.

“Wait, isn’t that the girl whose waiting outside the gate yesterday?”

“That’s right! And that’s the guy who entered the car with her!”

Yup, I’m dead. Guess i have no choice but to erase their memories.

“Don’t worry. Ichirou.”

“Yes.” Ichirou took out a talisman and started to chant.

“Memories, Dreams, Wishes, remove all form in your mind and be replaced.”

Suddenly, the people behind Hyoka began to leave, as if they had forgotten why they were here in the first place.

“Now we’re safe.”

“What do you mean by twist your words?”

“Ichirou.”

“Yes.” Hyoka instructed Ichirou to leave us alone before she replied to my question.

“Since you’re not an onmyouji, I just told others that you’re an onmyouji. You didn’t want to help us, so I said that you’re a last resort, which is technically the truth.”

“Tch… you’re one sly fox.”

“Thanks.”

“Anyways, don’t be late.” Hyoka said with a small, emotionless smile on her face.

“Got it. I’ll be there on time.”
