Chapter 1:

Rise of The King: Soldiers With Honor

Rise of The King

The Kingdom of Heartonia was a kingdom born on blood and glory. Among the sentient races of the world, the Karnathi were the most violent and terrifying. They stood taller than the rest, their skin a dark purple, making them stand out in the crowd. Their four arms used for only conquest and combat. Despite their nature, they held a strong sense of honor, they were true warriors, loyal to their core. Yet they entered the darkest time in their history, a time of peace and softness.
The foolish king Nihilic was next to the heir on the throne, but he cared not for his people or their honor. He seized most military practices and recruitment. Using the saved up gold for parties with his friends. The time of peace was unknown to people of the kingdom, and they hated it, but couldn't do anything due to the kings power. They needed a new hope to save them from this hell. A true warrior shall rise to the throne and bring back the true ways of the karnathi. The world shall know fear once again.

Being lucky enough to be accepted, Kiran was accepted in the military. With nothing but his will and determination, he was ready to raise this kingdom back to its feet once again.

Kiran entered the barracks and found his new allies.
"So, you're the third? Welcome. The names Tarcus." Standing up and approaching Kiran, they stood shoulder to shoulder, giants compared to the rest of them. Kiran nodded and extended his hand.
"It's a honor to meet you, Tarcus. I'm Kiran." He spoke with a small smile on his face. The both of them could feel each others strength. The third one stood up and approached them. He was smaller and leaner than them.
"It's a honor, Kiran. I am Atreus Sile, son of Zle Sile." His town was filled with honor and perfection. Kiran kneeled, he was standing in front of a noble.
"My apologies. I didn't know you were a noble." He said, but Atreus shook his head.
"No need for apologies. I've been... rejected by my family for joining the army." Atreus's tone turned quit as he lowered his gaze.
"My family swore an oath to the king a long time ago, now they stand corrupted by the kings vision. I reject that kind of life. It's disgusting." Filled with disgust and disdain, he sat down back on his bed. There were four beds inside the wooden barracks, but there were only three of them.
"W-Where is the fourth?" Kiran asked nervously. The other two shook their heads with confusion. Before they could continue, shouting could be heard from outside the barracks.
"Come you filthy creep! This is your barracks!" A soldier screamed as another opened the door and pushed down a skinny and malnourished karnathi on the floor who was just laughing at them.  "Oh you two! Your fear is showing. How delightful!" He screamed with joy as the soldier hurried outside of the barracks. Rising on his feet, the karnathi just giggled and cracked his neck and shoulders. "Why hello fine warriors! My name is Dolion! It's a pleasure to meet you and your fears." His voice and movements were exaggerated, reminding them of a character from a child's tale. A wide and toothy smile appeared on Dolions face as she moved closer to Atreus, getting right up into his face. "Oh you reek of fear and hatred. Beautiful." Atreus quickly pushed Dolion away.
"Mind your own business, freak." Despite his anger, Atreus was petrified that Dolion read him so easily. Chuckling with delight, Dolion clasped his hands together.
"Oh my, how wonderful. I can tell we're all going to be great friends! Have any of you ever tried to befriend a shadow sorcerer? Those friendships never truly see the light of day." Laughing at his own joke, he sank down into the floor and appeared from Kiran's shadow, placing his skinny and boney arms on his shoulders. "Now you're a sad sack of anger and determination, I can almost taste it!" He then glared at Tarcus. "As for you... You're going to be no fun. Why are you so normal? Don't you have a tragic past or something?" Tarcus sighed at Dolions questions.
"Despite your foolishness, you're a destructive and cunning beast." Hearing this, Dolion grinned widely.
"Oh that's more like it. Keep it up with the compliments and maybe you won't be so boring after all." Wanting to end the conversation, Kiran clapped a few times.
"I think that's enough. We're a group now, that means we work together. Understood?" Kiran's tone turned serious and deep as he paced around the room. "We need a leader, so I propose who ever scores the highest during training become the leader. Is that fair?" The others nodded in agreement. Tarcus took a step towards Kiran.
"I like the way that you think. May the best man win." A small smile formed on his face. Atreus stood up and shrugged.
"Fine by me. We need to aim to be the best group here. Only the top teams get to serve under the king." Hearing this revelation, Kiran's eyes focused on Atreus. "Is that true? We can get closer to the king?" His tone was desperate for answers. Meanwhile Dolion chuckled darkly.
"What's the matter tough guy? You want to meet the king so badly?" He taunted as he took a step closer to Kiran. "Or maybe you want something more? Maybe you want to kill and overthrow the king? You want revenge?" His tone turned deeper and overflowed with excitement and darkness.
"Maybe I am? But is anybody here going to stop me?" Kiran asked in a threatening tone.
Tarcus just chuckled at him. "No sir, I like the idea." Meanwhile Atreus placed his hand on his chest and looked up at Kiran.
"To submit myself to the king is my families promise, but I serve no fool. Taking him out will be a pleasure." Finally, Dolion spoke with a chuckle.
"I don't give a damn about the king, I just want some fun! And you folks are high quality entertainment. Better than ten bards combined!" Being on the same page, they raised their fists into the air, "May the best man rule" They shouted out in unison. A deadly alliance was born this day, one to shake the entire kingdom to its core.
