Chapter 1:
For My Country
“Hey Mateo, how’d you do on the test yesterday?”
Mateo Pierce looked towards the source of the question as he walked through the classroom’s door. It was his deskmate Glenn, whose thin build didn’t quite fit with the image of a student who belonged to a military school.
“I only had a hard time with a couple questions, everything else though I was able to recognize from class and studying.”
“Do you think you’ll break out of your third place streak finally?”
The question this time came from behind him as he sat down. Turning around he saw a petite red haired teenager sitting in the desk behind him, Rebecca.
“Knowing Gerard he probably got another full score. As for Blair, you know how competitive she gets with Gerard so I doubt she’s far behind him.”
“Come on, there’s no way I always get full scores on every test. Who knows you might pass me up this time.”
“Tch, if it were that easy to take first from you then I would have already replaced you long ago. Seriously, when was the last time you got anything below a 100?”
Just hearing their words already revealed the identities of the pair as they made their way over. The kindest and all rounded genius of the class, Gerard was on the right, while the eternally second place Blair stood on his left.
Gerard had a kind face with light brown hair, while Blair had short black hair but had a height that matched Gerard’s.
Since day one the two were always together, apparently they had been childhood friends before they’d even started attending Breglin Military School.
With the top three of the class gathered together, pretty much everyone in class huddled around them discussing yesterday’s test.
Unfortunately, the results of the test would always remain a mystery for them as a bright light suddenly appeared beneath their feet. They couldn’t make out what was happening beneath them as the need to shield their eyes was a much larger concern.
The luminance of the light momentarily blinded them before going away. It took everyone a couple seconds before their eyes recovered.
Before Mateo’s eyes could recover he felt a hand grab him by the arm before dragging him back. He felt the others being pressed up against him. As his eyesight finally returned he saw himself in a grand room, definitely not the classroom.
He saw Gerard standing before him, dragging anyone within arms length behind him as he glanced around warily at the people surrounding them.
Mateo quickly copied Gerard’s actions while exchanging glances with him. He could tell that his classmate was just as confused as he was. However, the safety of his classmates was his highest priority.
“Ahem, greetings Heroes’ from another world. I welcome you to our world. I know you must be confused, but please, remain calm as I explain the situation you have found yourselves in.”
The eyes of the students peered at the direction of the voice, all the while remaining alert to the other strangers that surrounded them.
“My name is Saint Ezra, I am a believer of the Tri-God Church. It was I along with Saintess Astrid and Saintess Phina who summoned you to our world.”
“Summoned to your world?”
The one who took charge was Gerard as he questioned the so-called saint. He wore long flowing White robes with three stars on chest. He looked to be in his mid 20s. Seeing how Gerard took over the conversation, the others kept alert to the actions of everyone else in the room.
Mateo saw the two who Ezra had identified as the two Saintesses. Both were stunning beauties that would capture anyone’s attention, with their outlandish hair, one pink and the other silver. Even though they let this Ezra person take charge, Mateo could still see the awe and respect that the others in the room had towards these two.
“Yes, you are no longer in the world you once knew. You are now in the Kingdom of Felance, in the world of Tirun.”
“Can we go back?”
“Most certainly, but please before you decide on what you want to do, will you not hear my story first?”
Rather than answering, Gerard looked behind him, this was not a decision he alone could make.
Multiple pairs of eyes met his before glancing at each other. Finally, a few nodded before the others followed. A few gave no answer, but neither did they dissent.
Gerard turned his attention back towards Ezra before giving a tentative nod. Immediately the Saint seemed to untense every muscle in his body. It would seem he truly was desperate.
Not only him but most people in the room seemed to show some signs of elation. Even the two saintesses glanced at each other, their eyes lit up.
“Our world is being plagued by demons that want nothing more than the annihilation of humanity. They are ruled over by the Demon King, Balthazar and his four generals. Felance is the last bastion of Humanity in all of Tirun. The Demons have already wiped out all of the other human countries in this world.”
At the mention of this Demon King Balthazar all the people in the room showed looks of despair, even the students felt terrified at the deeds being mentioned. Most of humanity was wiped out? What were they supposed to do?
“Um, Saint Ezra, we’re just students. Sure we might have some military training, but I doubt that will be of much help against this Demon King Balthazar.”
“Military Training? Splendid! Fear not, for as I mentioned earlier, you are Heroes. With a bit of training your strength will easily match that of such a title.”
“Heroes?”
“Yes, Heroes! In our world there exists mana. People can harness mana to either cast spells or to strengthen themselves and use weapon arts. Heroes are those most attuned with mana and can easily master spells and arts. Not only that, there is also the Divine power of the gods that can be acquired through prayer. Heroes are those closest to the Gods and have bodies that can easily endure their divine power.”
“Mana? Divine Power? You're saying we have talents for using these?”
“Absolutely. Even with a bit of training a hero can match the strength of a Knight Captain or a Lieutenant of the Demon King’s Army.”
“How strong are they?”
“The amount of individuals stronger than them by at least a level can be counted on two hands.”
“How many of them are in the Demon King’s Army?”
“5”
“And you?”
“2”
“How are you still alive?”
“Haha, the numbers do make us sound hopeless. You see our two can face two of their Generals at the same time, not including the strongest of the Four Demon Generals.”
“I’m guessing the fifth on their side is the Demon King then?”
“Yes, thankfully centuries ago he was sealed away by the Gods, he is currently incapable of leaving his castle.”
“Then we only have to worry about the Four Generals then?”
“As long as they don’t get their hands on the key to the Demon King’s Seal, then yes your only task is to subjugate the Four Generals.”
“If we can kill the four then why not kill the Demon King while we’re at it?”
“Impossible. Even the Gods could not kill him, only seal him away. Even the strongest Hero of our world died by his hands. Let it be known that he was capable of defeating all four of the Demon Generals. But fear not, we will not send you on such a suicide mission.”
“Before we make a decision, can we see these spells, arts, and prayers you were talking about?”
All of the students perked up at this, all of them had been curious of these abilities since they had been first mentioned. Which teenager wouldn’t dream of being able to cast spells or charge into battle, sword in hand.
Ezra smiled and waved at two people who had been standing to the side over. The eyes of all the students locked onto the two as they made their way to Ezra’s side.
Based on their attire it was easy to identify one as a knight and the other as some kind of magic caster.
“This is Knight Captain Corrin and Archwizard Arwyn. These two are some of the finest in all of Tirun.”
“Are these the two you mentioned being on par with the Demon Generals?”
“Pardon? Oh no those two cannot leave their positions, otherwise the Demon Generals would be left unchecked. No, these two would be equal in strength to the strongest of Demon Lieutenants. The two I mentioned earlier were the Pope and the Knight Commander.”
The students gave nods of understanding and were once actually even more interested in the strength of these two. This was going to be the strength they would be able to achieve after training. While the Peak of this world was something they would probably one day achieve, it did not sound like it was something that would be easily done.
“We’ll start with Knight Captain Corrin first, please go ahead and display an Art.”
“Wait, you're doing it here? Isn’t that dangerous?”
“Ah, worry not I have already set up a barrier, neither you nor the room shall be damaged.”
Ignoring the chatter going on, the Knight Captain unsheathed his Long Sword and held it vertically in front of him. The room quieted down as his sword started to glow with an ethereal light. He brought up his sword and slashed down in front of him.
The students gaped as a massive blade of energy shot from his sword and slashed at the wall. They panicked when they felt the room shake as a shockwave hit them. They steadied themselves and looked back at the wall as a golden light covered it, leaving it unharmed.
While they gaped at the undamaged wall and the memories of the energy blade, Saint Ezra suddenly raised his hand.
“Ah, I forgot to mention. If you defeat the Demon Generals and obtain the source of their power, we will be able to send you back to your world along with any powers and abilities you gain from ours.”
