Chapter 27:

Arc 1 - Chapter 27: Dark Angels vs Blood Eagles (II)

Burning Phoenix

Red light continued to blare. For every second that passed, it gave the pitch black hallway a demonic vision for the blind.

Many people wouldn’t fight toe to toe with the disturbance of sight. If someone had the ability to take away someone’s vision, for one second, they would forget to focus. But Luna was the exception.

“We need backup! We need—”

Slashing the blood eagle in front of her, her eyes narrowed at the many squads coming after her. Firing relentlessly at the ballerina of death, she narrowly dodged all of them, as she had her legs run with adrenaline.

And all they could do was try to defend themselves. The way she used her swords, enacting them as yo-yos, was enough for them to pale their sweaty faces. And while she slashed her way by force, Luke and Loraine took cover near the corner of the staircase.

I know she’s done this many times, but how is she this confident!?

Her feet in perfect sync with her body, her hands in perfect sync with her swords, it made her speed unpaired. Missing every shot they fired at her, it only pushed them back evermore.

Bouncing off the walls, sideways jumping, she reached another squad that succumbed to their fear from her. Dealing with them by her swords, she charged toward another squad, their weapons steady whilst they held their breaths.

“Steady!”

Two groups of them stood in the center of the hallway, their fingers hovering over their triggers. Continuing to sprint, she extended her hands out wide, leaving the tips of her blades to scratch the walls.

“And now!”

They all pulled their triggers in unison, as they grit the back ends of their teeth like they were eating jawbreakers. All the while Luna devilishly smirked at them.

Her eyes hanging low, her blades zipping through the old wood, it looked as if the bullets were about to hit her—

She vanished.

“What the?! Where is she?!”

“Turn around.”

Turning around, he twisted his body for his gun to point at the teleported Luna. But she was fast, leaving him to be slashed.

All of them began walking slowly toward the second staircase, along with their guns shaking violently within their grasps. Lunging at them yet again, she slashed them one by one…

But she was dealing with two groups, not one, meaning the possibility of being shot was doubled.

“Just open fire—”

“Gotcha!”

Two blood eagle soldiers fell, landing on their right shoulders. Being from the back of the two groups, they noticed they were tied up by an all black nylon rope. The tightness too much for them, felt like their lungs would burst, leaving them to look up at a teenage girl.

Who smiled deviously.

“Did you use a blessing?!”

“Yessir! There’s no point in escaping! It’s meant for people to be trapped, no matter the person!” Said Loraine.

The two of them tried to break free by sucking their guts. Wiggling and worming to no avail, the rope somehow tightened, leaving their attempt to break free halt rapidly.

“Try not to break free no more, otherwise … you may lose oxygen and die!”

“I got this.”

Walking past Loraine, Luke pointed his uzi at the two bonded up blood eagles. Pulling the trigger, darts came out of the barrel, darts that had a needle attached to them. Widening their eyes, they breathed heavily, but their breathing slowed along with their hands low to the floor.

The two of them went to sleep, causing Loraine to pull back her rope. Being absorbed into her palm, the entire ten foot rope condensed into her like a human storage bin.

“Rope sure is yummy!”

“This is why you're a benchwarmer…”

Luke turned to see Luna, standing in the middle of many injured soldiers. Widening his eyes, he saw her face smeared with specks of blood, followed by a stream of sweat rolling down her cheek.

Half of her swords reeked with the red liquid, as she had them lowered to the floor. Making eye contact with Luke, she tilted her head, and pushed two buttons on the center of her swords.

Which seashed the blades into her metal batons, and then placed them back onto her holsters.

“What?”

“Oh nothing. You just look tired, that's all.”

“I’m not tired! You’re tired!”

“But you dealt with most of them by yourself.”

“W-Whatever! Let’s just back up Gwen…”

The three of them walked their way toward the room they teleported from. Seeing unconscious bodies laying on the floor, Luke saw they were already dealt with. But they looked like they didn’t bleed. In fact, they all had purple and black bruises littering their faces.

“Can’t believe Gwen took half of them down all by herself too…”

Despite seeing countless sleeping bodies, there were two people they couldn’t find .

“Hey, where’s Gwen?”

Luna placed her hand to her chin, rubbing her nails alongst her tanned skin. Sharpening her eyes, a single vein sprouted from her right temple.

“Probably looking for that piece of shit Maverick.”

“I don’t know why Gwen hesitates on catching him…”

“I swear, the next punch will be his nuts!”

“He’s escaped her numerous times, so he’s not just going to pop out—”

A door opened a few feet in front of them.

Out of the room, was a man who clutched his stomach, whilst his legs barely drove him forward. His other hand clutching the door handle, he gasped for breath.

Looking to his right, he saw his unconscious henchmen. And to his left, he looked down to see Luke, Loraine, and most of all, Luna. Licking his lips, toning down his breathing, he quivered a smug smile.

“I would’ve liked to kiss you beautiful, but I must get some rest~”

Walking to the door he wanted to enter, he had his hand on the handle, until Luna lunged straight at him. Extending her arms outward, she tackled him, leaving him to crumble down, whilst the door in front of him opened. With the door wide open, Luna didn’t care, as she cupped her hands on his neck. Her fingertips drilling into his airways, she had her butt pressured on his crotch, her weight crushing him as he smiled.

But then.

“Get off our Boss.”

“Or else.”

Two blood eagles, a man and a woman, pointed their handguns at Luna. Their fingers pressed firm on their triggers, she pulled back her hands, yet kept her weight on him.

And he continued to creepy smile, and laughed in tired breaths.

“What’s that smell?”

“So you guys chose lust over loyalty… Well you guys are the town pump and town bike after all.”

With the stench of lustful love in the air, Luna and Maverick couldn’t concentrate as the smell was so … pungent. Standing near the door, Luke had his hand placed over Loraine’s nose, keeping her innocence in check.

“The least you can do is get Luna off of me. Both of you don’t stand a chance in a fight against her so … I don’t know … shoot her legs.”

Both of them nodded, but Luna didn’t falter. Cocking her head, she glared her narrowed eyes at the two lovebirds.

“You think you can shoot me?”

Once they fired at her, she vanished like a microwaved popcorn seed.

Now free, Maverick quickly got up, and took a couple of steps back while pulling out his handgun. He began to laugh, his breaths raspy and low.

pants … oh I love this two-year game of tag! What’s your next move?! Come out of the hallway?! Come out from the roof?! Come through the floor?!”

And then he looked toward the nearby window.

Seeing a little light sparkling along the glass, he extended his arms and pushed down his eyes. With the two blood eagles standing behind him, they had their barrels pinned on the light.

Noticing their tension, he gestured to them to lower their weapons.

“Oh … daring are we?”

In the flick of a light switch, the sparkling light came soaring through the window, pushing many glass shards to litter the floor of the room. A woman, having the same set of freckles and pale skin, made her grand entrance seen by Maverick and his two henchmen.

“Maverick…”

“Been a while huh Gwen?”

They looked at one another. Walking slowly toward him, she raised her right hand to rub the back of her head. Using her other hand, she placed it firm on her hip, and gave Maverick a warm smile.

“Maverick, Maverick, Maverick, why do you always have to take things to another level? Can’t you just turn yourself in?”

“You know I can’t do that. I’m a cursed man.”

“You're not cursed.”

“No … we’re both cursed.”

She stood right in front of him, his height towering over her as he clenched his fists. His knuckles cracking against each other, he placed his left hand over his mouth. With his right hovering over a fake plant, his fingertips traced the made up green.

“You see Gwen … cackles … I’m not like you in terms of will … cackles … oh man, sometimes I just want to—”

At the drop of a hat, he picked up the plant, and—

Gwen grabbed his arm, and she did it so fast that he didn’t have time to blink. His anger disappearing like melted butter, the two blood eagles took a couple of steps back.

“Please Maverick … playtime is over …”

She looked down, leaving Maverick to see her pushed down frown. His back facing the door, water began to form on the crevices of his eyes, and yet…

He slowly walked backward.

“Just let me play a bit longer…”

The lights turned on.

Their pupils shrinking in size, the red alarm that gave them half second visibility was unneeded. Being caught off guard, it gave Maverick the chance to sprint out the door, his legs moving more efficiently. Unneeded to limp, unneeded to breath raspy, he managed to evade both Luna, Luke, and Loraine all together.

Just as the three of them were about to catch him…

They heard a gunshot…

Gwen hovered her right hand over her stomach, her fingers feeling something warm and sticky. As her knees slammed on the wooden floorboards, she brought her hand to her face, and examined it.

Oh no...

The floor soaking her blood, she turned her head back to see the two blood eagles standing behind her. One of them had their barrel pumping out smoke, leaving the tip of the metal to scald.

Gripping her stomach tightly, she scrunched up her eyes and cheeks, as her body tightened every muscle. Breathing heavily, her eyes opened and closed like a kid playing with an on and off switch.

“Finish her.”

Aiming the pistol at the back of her head, the female blood eagle was about to—

She dropped her gun.

Along with her hand.

Looking at her left hand, or what was left of it, it was cleaved off with a river of blood gushing out. Her bone sticking out, she slammed her back against the wall, and tore her vocals to reenact a screaming banshee.

Moving back, Luna lowered her sword, but turned her head toward…

“MEREDITH!!”

He began rapid firing at her, leading his gun to shake violently while unloading his cartridge.

Vanishing again, she teleported near where Gwen laid down, her eyes softly closing shut. Grabbing her by the end of her nape, she dragged her, making her escape with Loraine in tow.

“You’re dead!”

Reloading, he rapidly fired another barrage of bullets, his barrel facing the escaping Luna. Just when those bullets were about to hit her, Luke tackled her, with both Gwen and Loraine following suit.

Seeing the man prepare another barrage, Luke widened his eyes and yelled at her.

“Hide anywhere that he won’t shoot at you! I’ll handle him!”

Standing up, Luke had his eyes pinned on the enraged blood eagle. Raising his right uzi steady, he closed his eyes, and calmed his breath. While the man unleashed another volley, all of them barreled their way toward the relaxed Luke. And upon instinct… he heard a reverb service bell.

Leaving every hair follicle to jump up, he lunged to the right, using all the strength of both his legs. Slowly opening his eyes, he slid back his right foot, but he wasn’t going to charge.

“You can’t dodge this!”

Firing another barrage, Luke dodged the volley yet again. Seeing that his bullets didn’t have any effect, the man threw away his pistol and charged at him like a brute. Despite being masked, he knew the man’s face was wrinkled with veins.

And once he was within a meter in front of him, Luke raised his uzi, and pulled the trigger.

Aiming at his chest, the dart struck near his heart, causing the man to tumble and roll through the floor. With no time to fight back his exhaustion, he quickly succumbed to sleep, laying motionless like he was dead.

Luke exhaled a huge sigh of relief, making him press his back firm against the wall. Slumping down, he felt like his legs gave in, as his side bang covered his right eye.

Turning his head to the sounds of footsteps, he configured four other soldiers running toward him. Stopping right in front of Luke, Miles holstered his sawed off shotguns into his holsters.

“Is the fight over?”

“Yeah…”

Luna came out from one of the doors she took cover in, dragging a bleeding Gwen. Taking everyone’s eyes off of Luke, they all gasped at her.

“Oh shit! Hope, treat Gwen now!”

“On it!”

Sprinting toward her, she placed both of her hands onto the region of which Gwen bled. Closing her eyes, her elegant seating caused all the boys to sort of blush.

A beautiful yellow light sprinkled from her palms, making every muscle and nerve within Gwen’s slim body to loosen. Seeing her open her eyes, she moved her left hand so that it rested well on the back of her head.

“Try to relax for a bit. You can’t move much when—”

“Thank you Hope but I’m taking it from here.”

Instantly getting up, she patted her knees like nothing happened. Dumbfounded, Hope stood up with a pouty face, along with her arms being folded underneath her small chest.

Putting herself in the middle of the hallway, Gwen did the Dark Angel’s salute. By thumping the left side of her chest twice with a balled fist, she glides it toward the right, and stops on the right side of her chest.

“Unfortunately, Maverick escaped yet again. But on the bright side, no one got killed. I say this mission was a success … sort of …”
