Chapter 11:

Chapter 11 — Artemisia vs Selena

Failed to Die, Now I'm an Athlete in Another World!

Right now—or rather, the five of us—are in a friendly match against the Kingdom of Eryndor.
We’ve split up according to our roles, except for me and Selena. Since I’m still a beginner, she’s been sticking with me the entire match.
Then she suddenly asked about yesterday,"Haruto, um... Do you—"
Before she could finish, an enemy attack came flying at us. Thankfully, we dodged in time.I had no idea if they were aiming at me or at Selena.
When I looked up, I saw her.Artemisia. That chuuni princess.
“Selena Alvaréz! I will destroy you and claim Solaris Luxflare for myself!”
“I won’t let that happen.”
Artemisia began chanting, and her dark magic shot toward us."So she really is a dark magic user... This is gonna be tough," I thought.
Selena and I tried to counterattack, but we couldn’t. Artemisia kept firing non-stop spells like a machine gun of darkness.
We needed to find an opening—but just when I thought she’d finally stopped…Nope. It was a trap. My spell was useless.
---
Selena’s POV
I didn’t expect Artemisia to target us like this. What should I do now?
Haruto’s still inexperienced. He’s not ready to face someone like her, even if this is just a friendly match.
Wait—she stopped attacking? What? She’s coming this way?!Panic. Panic. Panic. I need to move!
She’s still going after me. Fine. I’ll try to confuse her, and if I get the chance, I’ll strike back.
“Artemisia! Do you really have feelings for Haruto?!”
“Yes. In my past life, I fought Solaris Luxflare for days on end... until I finally killed him and destroyed the light he protected.”
What...?
She said it like she meant every word.
“And now, I’ll make sure his reincarnation never escapes me again. I’ll make him mine. Prepare yourself, Alvaréz!”
Dark magic came hurling at me again. I barely deflected it—it was way too powerful. I dodged just in time and countered with my own spell.
“Artemisia!”
I poured all my power into summoning a wind dragon.
“Selena Alvaréz!”
We clashed. Even then, she wasn’t using her full strength. Dammit, she’s way too strong.
She taunted,“Why don’t you just give up, Alvaréz?”
“I can’t. I’ve put everything I have into this!”
“Very well then. Hit me with your strongest.”
But it was no use. My spell didn’t even touch her.She was only defending.
“...Well done. You held out longer than I expected.”
Then she created a magic circle and swallowed my dragon whole.
In a blink, she teleported right in front of me—and that was it.
My vision blurred, my legs collapsed, my body trembled. Is this all I’ve got as a vice-captain?
I’m sorry, everyone.I’m sorry for being this weak.I’m sorry I—
---
I woke up, looking around, confused.
Judging by what happened before, this must be the enemy’s base—Eryndor’s fortress.
“Ugh… pathetic.”I sighed and shook my head.
I hugged my knees and leaned back against the stone wall.If this really is their base… that means I’ve officially been captured.
Outside, I could still hear the distant sound of magic and explosions. The match isn’t over yet.
But I can’t even stand. My body feels so heavy…And my heart even heavier.
Is Haruto out there… all alone now?
Roland? Lucas? Captain...?
I took a deep breath.This isn’t the first time I’ve lost a match.But this time… it’s different.
It’s not just because I lost in front of Haruto—
It’s because I lost as this team’s vice-captain.
“No. I’m not ending it here.”I clenched my fists.
Even if I can’t win on my own... I can trust my team.
This... isn’t over.
